  • The small-scale models have been utilized for the prediction of inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete structures for a long time. The parameters that affect the similitude between the model and the prototype are various. Among them, the effect of bond between the model reinforcement and the model concrete is one of the most important factors. The study reported herein is addressed to verifying this similitude in bond behavior. Another topic is the similitude in shear. The selected scales are 1/1, 1/5, 1/10 and 1/12. Two prototype specimens and three models were tested in addition to the associated material tests. The test results are compared from the viewpoint of similitude.

  • The heat flux on a chip is rapidly increasing with decreasing the size of one. It is necessary to properly cool the high heat flux chip. One of the promising cooling methods is to apply CPL heat pipes with porous materials, for example PVA, polyethylene, and powder sintered metal plate and with microchannels in the evaporator. A small scale CPL heat pipe with PVA as wick was designed and manufactured. Since the height difference between the evaporator and the condenser is a crucial parameter in the CPL heat pipes, the performance of the heat pipes depending on the parameter was investigated. The parameter is higher the performance is better. However, the improvement rate of the performance does not increase the increase rate of the height. In addition to, the parameter effect depending on heat input was investigated.

고 표면적-체적 비를 가지는 소형 연소실 환경에서의 연소특성 (Combustion characteristics in small combustion chamber that has high surface to volume ratio)

  • Combustion phenomenon in scale-downed combustor is investigated. As the combustor volume decreases surface to volume ratio increases. for increased surface to volume ratio means increased heat loss and this increased heat loss affects reaction in combustion chamber. Plastic mini combustor is made. Stoichiometricaly premixed Hydrogen I air gas is used as fuel. Initial chamber pressure and chamber size are varied and the effects are evaluated. Peak pressure decreases with the decrease in chamber height. As initial chamber pressure decreases peak pressure decreases. And this change is more important than scale down effect till the chamber height of 1mm. With this result and further information following the experiments design parameter for micro engine can be established.

Buckling analysis of double walled carbon nanotubes embedded in Kerr elastic medium under axial compression using the nonlocal Donnell shell theory

  • In this paper, a new explicit analytical formula is derived for the critical buckling load of Double Walled Carbon Nanotubes (DWCNTs) embedded in Winkler elastic medium without taking into account the effects of the nonlocal parameter, which indicates the effects of the surrounding elastic matrix combined with the intertube Van der Waals (VdW) forces. Furthermore, we present a model which predicts that the critical axial buckling load embedded in Winkler, Pasternak or Kerr elastic medium under axial compression using the nonlocal Donnell shell theory, this model takes into account the effects of internal small length scale and the VdW interactions between the inner and outer nanotubes. The present model predicts that the critical axial buckling load of embedded DWCNTs is greater than that without medium under identical conditions and parameters. We can conclude that the embedded DWCNTs are less susceptible to axial buckling than those without medium.

경량화 소형 위그선 구조 예비 설계에 관한 연구 (Study on Preliminary Structural Design of Light Weight Small Scale WIG Craft)

  • This study was performed on preliminary structural design of a small scale WIG craft which has been developed as a next generation high speed maritime transportation system in Korea. A composite structure design using the foam-sandwich for main wing and tail fins and the honeycomb sandwich and skin-stringer-ring frame for fuselage was applied for weight reduction as well as structural stability. A commercial FEM code, NASTRAN for was utilized to confirm the structural safety for the reiterate design modifications to meet design requirements including the target weight. Each main wing was jointed with the fuselage by eight high strength insert bolts for easy assembling and disassembling as well as for assuring the required 20 years service life. For control surface structural design, the channel type spar, the foam sandwich skin and the lug joint were adopted.

Behaviour of composite walls under monotonic and cyclic shear loading

  • The novel form of composite walling system consists of two skins of profiled steel sheeting with an in-fill of concrete. Such walling system can be used as shear elements in steel framed building subjected to lateral load. This paper presents the results of small-scale model tests on composite wall and its components manufactured from very thin sheeting and micro-concrete tested under monotonic and cyclic shear loading conditions. The heavily instrumented small-scale tests provided information on the load-deformation response, strength, stiffness, strain condition, sheet-concrete interaction and failure modes. Analytical models for shear strength and stiffness are derived with some modification factor to take into account the effect of quasi-static cycling loading. The performance of design equations is validated through experimental results.

  • This article studies the free and forced vibrations of the carbon nanotubes CNTs embedded in an elastic medium including thermal and dynamic load effects based on nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam. A Winkler type elastic foundation is employed to model the interaction of carbon nanotube and the surrounding elastic medium. Influence of all parameters such as nonlocal small-scale effects, high temperature change, Winkler modulus parameter, vibration mode and aspect ratio of short carbon nanotubes on the vibration frequency are analyzed and discussed. The non-local Euler-Bernoulli beam model predicts lower resonance frequencies. The research work reveals the significance of the small-scale coefficient, the vibrational mode number, the elastic medium and the temperature change on the non-dimensional natural frequency.

  • We present our first attempt at understanding the dual impact of the large-scale density and velocity environment on the formation of very first astrophysical objects in the Universe. Following the recently developed quasi-linear perturbation theory on this effect, we introduce the publicly available initial condition generator of ours, BCCOMICS (Baryon Cold dark matter COsMological Inital Condition generator for Small scales), which provides so far the most self-consistent treatment of this physics beyond the usual linear perturbation theory. From a suite of uniform-grid simulations of N-body+hydro+BCCOMICS, we find that the formation of first astrophysical objects is strongly affected by both the density and velocity environment. Overdensity and streming-velocity (of baryon against cold dark matter) are found to give positive and negative impact on the formation of astrophysical objects, which we quantify in terms of various physical variables.

고등학생의 내.외향성에 따른 SSC(Small-Scale Chemistry) 실험 수업의 효과 (The Effect of Small-Scale Chemistry (SSC) Lab Program with Respect to High School Students' Extroversions and Introversions)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 학생의 내 외향성 따른 SSC(Small-Scale Chemistry)실험 수업의 효과를 알아보는 것이다. 이 연구를 위해서 7차 교육과정 고등학교 과학 교과서를 분석하여 SSC 실험 프로그램을 개발하였다. 실험 집단은 SSC 실험 수업을 실시하고 비교 집단은 교과서에 근거한 전통적 수업을 5차시에 걸쳐 실시하였다. 성격 검사 점수를 통해 학생들을 외향성과 내향성으로 구분하였고, 두 집단 간의 차이를 이원 공변량 분석을 통해 조사하였다. 사전 검사로 과학적 태도, 학업적 자기효능감 검사를 실시하였으며, 사후 검사로 과학적 태도, 학업적 자기효능감 및 SSC 실험 수업에 대한 인식 검사를 실시하였다. 사전 및 사후 과학 성취도 점수는 중간고사 및 기말고사 과학 점수를 이용하였다. 이원 공변량 분석 결과 학업 성취도는 처치에 따른 주효과는 유의미하게 나타났으나 내 외향성과 수업처치의 상호작용 효과는 유의미하지 않았다. 과학적 태도는 주효과가 나타나지 않았으나 내 외향성과 수업처치의 상호작용 효과가 유의미하였다. 이는 외향적인 학생이 SSC실험 수업에서 실험의 기회가 많아지고 주도적으로 마음껏 실험할 수있었던 것과 달리 내향적인 학생은 소인수 실험으로 인해 오히려 자신에게 주어지는 책임감과 부담감을 느끼는 것으로 해석가능하다. 학업적 자기효능감 검사에서 수업 처치의 주효과와 상호작용 효과가 유의미하지 않았다. SSC 실험 수업에 대한 인식 조사 결과 내 외향성 학생 모두에서 '3인 1조의 소인수 실험'과 '이해도'와 '편리성' 항목에서 90%이상의 매우 긍정적인 인식이 나타났다. '다른 학생과 실험 결과 비교' 항목에서는 내 외향성의 차이가 크게 나타났다.

A Study on the Effects of Small Business Management Result by the Korean Government: Focus on SEMAS

  • Purpose - It is necessary to identify the level of marketing activities of the businesses that are recognized and carried out by the small and midsize businesses that have been supported by the government's small-business policy Research design, data, and methodology - The method of data analysis of this study was conducted by the researcher's acquaintances and center staffs who visited small business owners in a small - scale company operating a business. Results - It is found that the financial support part of the support programs for the small business owners is not related to the center affection among the support programs for the small business owners of the government. This is a fact-finding process that can be regarded as a forming process that has a significant effect on. As a result of the analysis, both marketing activity and center attachment were found to be possible parameters which have significant influence on business performance. Conclusions - Developing a variety of contact and customer management programs with small business owners in the field has enabled the government's policies to effectively penetrate the site, and these efforts eventually resulted in more business results for small business owners.
