Stress corrosion cracking of Alloy 600 and Alloy 690 has been studied with a C-ring specimen in 1%, 10% and 40% NaOH at $315^{\circ}C$. SCC test was performed at 200 mV above corrosion potential. Initial stress on the apex of C-ring specimen was varied from 300 MPa to 565 MPa. Materials were heat treated at various temperatures. SCC resistance of Ni-$_\chi$Cr-10Fe alloy increased as the Cr content of the alloy increased if the density of an intergranular carbide were comparable. SCC resistance of Alloy 600 increased in caustic solution as the product of coverage of an intergranular carbide in grain boundary, intergranular carbide thickness and Cr concentration at grain boundary increased. Low temperature mill annealed Alloy 600 with small grain size and without intergranular carbide was most susceptible to SCC. TT Alloy 690 was most resistant to SCC due to the high value of the product of coverage of an intergranular carbide in grain boundary, intergranular carbide thickness and Cr concentration at grain boundary. Dependency of SCC rate on stress and NaOH concentration was obtained.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hot forging ratio and solution treatment temperature on the mechanical properties of incoloy 825 alloy. With an increasing of the hot forging ratio, grain size and range of grain size was decreased. With an increasing of the solution treatment temperature after 90% forging, grain size and range of grain size was increased. Cr carbides and Ti nitrides was precipitated at below $900^{\circ}C$ and volume fraction of precipitate was increased with an decreasing of the solution treatment temperature. With an increasing of the hot forging ratio, hardness, tensile strength and elongation, toughness was increased. With an increasing of the solution treatment temperature after 90% forging, hardness and strength was increased, elongation and toughness was decreased by grain refinement. With an increasing of the forging ratio, effect of solution treatment temperature on the hardness, strength and elongation was small, but on the toughness was large.
To fabricate large grain YBCO bulk superconductors by melt process, Sm123 single crystal with a high melting point are mostly used as seeds. However, it also uses Y123 film deposited on MgO single crystal substrate. This study investigated the growth behavior of the Y123 grain during a melt process when single grain YBCO bulk was used as a seed. Single grain Y123 bulk was grown when the seed size was small. When the seed size was relatively large, multiple grains were grown but the grains were still large. Y123 seed crystal was completely decomposed during high temperature anneal at 1040℃ and new Y123 crystals were nucleated during a slow cooling stage below a peritectic temperature. Thereafter, newly formed Y123 crystals from the seed area are thought to grow into the Y1.8 powder compact. The crystallographic orientations of newly nucleated Y123 grains are independent of the crystallographic orientation of Y123 seed. It is thought that the crystallographic orientation of newly nucleated Y123 crystal can be controlled by using Y211-free Y123 single crystal as a seed of homo-seeding melt growth.
Yield and growth characteristics were compared for five rice cultivars; a new Tongil-type, so called "super-rice", Dasanbyeo, an old Tongil-type Milyang 23, two japonicas Dongjinbyeo and Ilpumbyeo, and a new plant type (NPT)line IR65600-27-1-2. The objective of this stusy was to clarify the high yielding capacity of Dasanbyeo in terms of growth characteristics. The average grain yield (9 t/ha) of Dasanbyeo was higher than that of Milyang 23 by ca. 9% that of japonicas by 20 to 30%, and that of NPT line by ca. 100%. The higher grain yield of Dasanbyeo was attributable not only to the greater dry matter production but also to the higher harvest index (HI). Dasanbyeo showed the greatest dry matter at harvest owing not only to the rapid leaf expan-sion at early growth stage and the resulting high LAI through the entire growth stage but also to the high NAR despite the high LAI. The rapid leaf expansion of Dasanbyeo at early growth stage seemed to be related in part to the profuse tillering capacity. HI was 0.53 in Dasanbyeo, 0,51 in Milyang 23, 0.41 in japonicas, and 0.35 in NPT line. Dasanbyeo was indebted for its higher HI to the relatively high grain filling ratio in spite of a much greater sink size than the other cultivars. Dasan had a greater source to sink ratio during grain ripening as measured by LAD/spikelet and dry matter production/spikelet which showed positove correlations with the grain ripening ratio. New plant type (NPT) line showed the lowest grain yield owing to the small sink size and the low grain filling ratio which seemed to have resulted from the abundant occurrence of weak-strength spikelets. The weak sink strength, in turn, seemed to have suppressed photosynthesis during the grain ripening stage.
We report on a direct measurement of two-dimensional chemical and electrical distribution on the surface of photovoltaic Cu(In,Ga)$Se_2$ thin-films using a nano-scale spectroscopic and electrical characterization, respectively. The Raman measurement reveals non-uniformed surface phonon vibration which comes from different compositional distribution and defects in the nature of polycrystalline thin-films. On the other hand, potential analysis by scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy shows a higher surface potential or a small work function on grain boundaries of the thin-films than on the grain surfaces. This demonstrates the grain boundary is positively charged and local built-in potential exist on grain boundary, which improve electron-hole separation on grain boundary. Local electrical transport measurements with scanning probe microscopy on the thin-films indicates that as external bias is increases, local current is started to flow from grain boundary and saturated over 0.3 V external bias. This accounts for carrier behavior in the vicinity of grain boundary with regard to defect states. We suggest that electron-hole separation at the grain boundary as well as chemical and electrical distribution of polycrystalline Cu(In,Ga)$Se_2$ thin-films.
To investigate the varietal variations in absolute density of milled rice grain and its relations with other grain characters, the 235 rice varieties which consist of 30 Tongil type rices, 72 Japonica rices and 133 Indica rices were tested on grain size, volume, hardness, chalkiness and 1000 grains weight of brown rice, ADV, amylose content, starch composition on SEM and absolute density of milled rice grain using completely ripened grains. Average absolute density of milled rice grain was 1.496g / cm$^3$ in Tongil type rices, 1.506g / em in Japonica rices, and 1.500g / cm$^3$ in Indica rices. It was correlated positively with days to heading and grain hardness, and negatively with chalkiness, volume, grain weight and grain length of brown rice. Regression analysis indicated that grain volume and weight were the major characters affecting the density. However, since the absolute density of milled rice grain did not show great varietal variations it might not seem important as one of the characters contributing to the grain yield, while it could be a factor affecting the grain quality because there were definite varietal differences even though small. The microscopic feature of starch composition on SEM revealed differences between clear and chalky parts of the grain in shape and compactness of starch composition but did not discriminate between high and low-density grains.
Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi. They can be present in where agricultural-based commodities are contaminated with toxigenic fungi. These mycotoxins cause various toxicoses in human and livestock when consumed. Small grains including corn, barley, rice or wheat are frequently contaminated with mycotoxins due to infection mainly by toxigenic Fusarium species and/or under environment favorable to fungal growth. One of the most well-known Fusarium toxin groups in cereals is trichothecenes consisting of many toxic compounds. Deoxynivalenol (DON), nivalenol (NIV), T-2 toxin, and various derivatives belong to this group. Zearalenone and fumonisin (FB) are also frequently produced by many species of the same genus. In order to monitor Korean cereals for contamination with Fusarium and other mycotoxigenic fungal species as well, barley, corn, maize, rice grains, and soybean were collected from fields at harvest or during storage for several years. The fungal colonies outgrown from the grain samples were identified based on morphological and molecular characteristics. Trichothecene chemotypes of Fusarium species or presence of FB biosynthetic gene were determined using respective diagnostic PCR to predict possible toxin production. Heavy grain contamination with fungi was detected in barley, rice and wheat. Predominant fungal genus of barley and wheat was Alternaria (up to 90%) while that of rice was Fusarium (~40%). Epicoccum also appeared frequently in barley, rice and wheat. While frequency of Fusarium species in barley and wheat was less than 20%, the genus mainly consisted of Fusarium graminearum species complex (FGSC) which known to be head blight pathogen and mycotoxin producer. Fusarium composition of rice was more diverse as FGSC, Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti species complex (FIESC), and Fusarium fujikuroi species complex (FFSC) appeared all at considerable frequencies. Prevalent fungal species of corn was FFSC (~50%), followed by FGSC (<30%). Most of FFSC isolates of corn tested appeared to be FB producer. In corn, Fusarium graminearum and DON chemotype dominate within FGSC, which was different from other cereals. Soybeans were contaminated with fungi less than other crops and Cercospora, Cladosporium, Alternaria, Fusarium etc. were detected at low frequencies (up to 14%). Other toxigenic species such as Aspergillus and Penicillium were irregularly detected at very low frequencies. Multi-year survey of small grains revealed dominant fungal species of Korea (barley, rice and wheat) is Fusarium asiaticum having NIV chemotype.
The effect of Co additive on the microstructural evolusion of WC was investigated. A small amount of Co powder was placed on the top-center of the pure WC powder compact and then sintered at 1950$^{\circ}C$. During sintering some abnormally large WC grains of different size and shape observed depending on the distance from the liquid source. However, in the region far away from Co liquid source, it showed low densification and the grains of WC were very small and uniform in size. A small amount of Co liquid phase has a remarkable influence on the AGG of WC and it has been explained in terms of 2-D nucleation and growth mechanism.

Minority carrier diffusion length is one of the most important parameters of solar cells, especially for short circuit current density (Jsc). In this report, we proposed the calculating method of the minority carrier diffusion length ($L_n$) in CIGS solar cells through biased quantum efficiency (QE). To verify this method's reliability, we chose two CIGS samples which have different grain size and calculated $L_n$ for each sample. First of all, we calculated out that $L_n$ was 56nm and 97nm for small and large grain sized-cell through this method, respectively. Second, we found out the large grain sized-cell has about 7 times lower defect density than the small grain sized-cell using drive level capacitance profiling (DLCP) method. Consequently, we confirmed that $L_n$ was mainly affected by the micro-structure and defect density of CIGS layer, and could explain the cause of Jsc difference between two samples having same band gap.
Austenite(${\gamma}$) grain size, ${\varepsilon}$ martensite volume fraction and damping capacity of Fe-17%Mn alloy have been investigated as a function of solution treatment temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$. With increasing the solution temperature, ${\gamma}$ grain size, ${\varepsilon}$ martensite content and damping capacity are increased, while the hardness is decreased. When ${\gamma}$ grains are small, ${\varepsilon}$ plates grow in only one direction in each ${\gamma}$ grain. However, if the ${\gamma}$ grains are large in accordance with high solution treating temperature, several ${\varepsilon}$ variants with different orientations are formed and intersected each other in each ${\gamma}$ grain. In spite of small ${\varepsilon}$ martensite content, the damping capacity of the specimen which was annealed at $700^{\circ}C$, followed by subzero treatment at $-196^{\circ}C$, is almost equal to that of the specimen annealed at $1000^{\circ}C$ and subsequently quenched to room temperature. From this result it is suggested that the damping capacity of Fe-17%Mn alloy having fine ${\gamma}$ grains is mainly attributed to the movement of ${\gamma}/{\varepsilon}$ interface without the operation of other damping sources such as ${\varepsilon}/{\varepsilon}$ boundaries and stacking faults in ${\varepsilon}$ reported previously.
