  • This study has analyze the suitable area of slump and slump flow among the fluidity evaluation of concrete by measuring slum and slump flow variation according to unit quantity and fine aggregate percentage in a low W/C mix. The fluidity of concrete can be expressed well with the slump value when sump value is 122mm or less. On the other hand, the fluidity of concrete can be expressed more accurately with slump flow value when slump is 122mm or greater.

  • An artificial neural network is applied to the prediction of compressive strength, slump value of concrete. Standard mixed tables arc trained and estimated, and the results are compared with those of experiments. To consider the varieties of material properties, the standard mixed tables of two companies of Ready Mixed Concrete are used. And they are trained with the neural network. In this paper, standard back propagation network is used. For the arrangement on the approval of prediction of compressive strength and slump value, the standard compressive strength of 210, $240kgf/cm^2$ and target slump value of 12, 15cm are used because the amount of production of that range arc the most at ordinary companies. In results, in the prediction of compressive strength and slump value, the predicted values are converged well to those of standard mixed tables at the target error of 0.10, 0.05, 0.001 regardless of two companies.

  • Rheological behaviour of fresh concrete is an important factor in controlling concrete quality. It is recognized that the measurement of the slump is not a sufficient test method to adequately characterize the rheology of fresh concrete. To further understand the slump measurement and its relationship to the rheological properties, an elasto-viscoplastic, 2-D axisymmetric finite element (FE) model is developed. The FE model employs the Bingham material model to simulate the flow of a slump test. An experimental program is carried out using the Slump Rate Machine (SLRM_II) to evaluate the finite element simulation results. The simulated slump-versus-time curves are found to be in good agreement with the measured data. A sensitivity study is performed to evaluate the effects of yield stress, plastic viscosity and cone withdrawal rate on the measured flow curve using the FE model. The results demonstrate that the computed yield stress compares well with reported experimental data. The flow behaviour is shown to be influenced by the yield stress, plastic viscosity and the cone withdrawal rate. Further, it is found that the value of the apparent plastic viscosity is different from the true viscosity, with the difference depending on the cone withdrawal rate. It is also confirmed that the value of the final slump is most influenced by the yield stress.

  • Establishment of test methods to assess the fresh properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) are required to ensure the homogeneity in fresh and hardened states. This paper discusses the suitability of a simple test method for assessing the slump flow and stability of SCC by testing on self-compacting mortar (SCM) fraction. The proposed test method aims at investigating slump flow diameter test and sieve stability test of SCC by testing SCM fraction with a plunger penetration apparatus. A central composite modeling design was performed to evaluate the effects of water/cement ratio (W/C), superplasticizer dosage (SP) and powder marble content (MP) on slump flow diameter, stability and plunger penetration test of fresh SCC. The responses of the derived statistical models are slump flow (Sf), sieve stability (S) and plunger penetration (P). Relationships obtained in this study show acceptable correlations between plunger penetration test value and slump flow diameter test results and stability. It should note that the developed relationships are very useful to predict slump flow diameter and stability of studied SCC mixtures by carrying out a simple plunger penetration test on its mortar, which can save labour and time in laboratory experiments.

  • The purpose of this study to fine the mixture of concrete for Top-Down method. As a result, In fresh concrete, slump value and slump-flow value were increased as fly ash concrete(10% ratio). When plasticizer was added 1.5% by weigh of binder in concrete, no fly ash concrete and fly ash concrete(10% ratio) all occurred segregation. And, no fly ash concrete and fly concrete(10% ratio) all showed compressive strength development close plain concrete as increasing plasticizer quantity. Especially, in case of 1.5% plasticizer of binder showed high compressive strength development.

  • The objective of this study were to investigate the properties and to improve the disadvantages of the polymer concrete such as brittle fracture, large hardening shrinkage . In this paper, steel fiber reinforced polymer concrete is prepared with various steel fiber aspect ratios(ι/d), contents(vol.%), and their material characteristics were investigated experimentally . The aspect ration (ι/d) of the steel fiber was reversly proportional to slump value, and slump value tended to decrease as increase of steel fiber content . And harding shrinkage and impact resistance tended to be improved as the steel fiber content and aspect ration were increased.

  • This paper is to investigate the Fluidity of Antiwashout Underwater Concrete containing Fly Ash. The results of study are concluded as follows: the increase in Slump Flow value did not happen in the plain concrete which was replaced cement by Fly Ash; however, the maximum value could reach in the replacement of 30% of Fly Ash by weight of cement in the Fly Ash replaced concrete. On the condition of Fly Ash-Antiwashout Underwater Concrete in expecting 50 cm of the Slump Flow, it was necessary that the usage amount of Superplasticizer be around 1% of unit Binder, and 1.5% in 60 cm of the Slump Flow, respoectively.

  • Generally, slump of plain concrete slab is about 120~150mm and slump loss is easy to occur. So, water is added to concrete because this method is convenient for Placing. In order to solve this problem, performance evaluation of concrete using improvement type PC admixture was carried out. Target slump is 210mm and compressive strength is 18MPa. As a result, slump reference value was satisfied 60 minutes after placing and 7-day compressive strength was 21~25MPa.

  • In this study, the effects and the interactions of water content, SP-binder ratio, and water-binder ratio on the workability performance of concrete were investigated. The experiments were designed based on flatted simplex-centroid experiment design modified from standard simplex-centroid one. The data gotten from the design was used to build the concrete slump model using neural networks. Research reported in this paper shows that a small number of slump experiments can be performed and meaningful data obtained with the experiment design. Such data would be suitable for building slump model using neural networks. The trained network can be satisfactorily used for exploring the effects of the components and their interactions on the workability of concrete. It has found that a high water content and a high SP/b ratio is essential for high workability, but achieving this by increasing these parameters will not in itself guarantee high workability. The w/b played a very important role in producing workability and had rather profound effects; however, the medium value about 0.4 is the best w/b to reach high slump without too much effort on trying to find the appropriate water content and SP/b.

  • In this study, CS-H walls with large stiffness were constructed using geosythetics for use in excavation at a depth of 30 m or more in Korea, and in order to construct the CS-H wall suitable for the site conditions, the formulation was examined according to the change in the mixing ratio of the geosythetics and the slump value (slump flow) and as a result, in the target slump 180 mm and the slump flow 500 mm, the formulation was confirmed to meet the mechanical properties such as the initial bending strength, the long-term behavior, and the elastic modulus as well as the economic efficiency. However, in the slump flow 600 mm, the result indicated that the formulation was inappropriate in the mechanical properties such as the initial bending strength, the long-term behavior, and the elastic modulus.
