Objectives This study intends to present the writing of standardized medical records based on Korean medicine on the basis of the Sanghanron symptoms. Methods 1. Excluding the sentences unrelated to the Sanghanron symptoms, the symptoms in the rest of sentences were extracted. 2. Classifying the extracted symptoms as per the review of system, the similar symptoms were integrated. 3. Calculating the frequencies of each symptom, each strain rate was calculated. Results & Conclusion: 1. Resulting from the analysis on 378 sentences in Sanghanron, a total of 1566 different symptoms were extracted. 2. As results out of total, the symptom related to the temperature sensation accounted for 17.9%, that related to sweat did 6.5%, that related to pulse did 12.4%, that related to eye and nose and mouth and tongue and throat as well as thirst did 7.7%, that related to stool did 11.6%, that related to urination and urinary organs did 4.9%, that related to language and mind and sleep and agitation as well as heart did 10.0%, and that related to vomiting and abdomen as well as digestive organs did 15.4%. 3. There were found many symptoms were described in accordance with the severity of basic expressions. For examples, in case of fever, there were mild fever and high fever, and in case of sweat, there were profuse sweating and slightly sweating. 4. To create the medical records for cold damage disease, it may necessary to consider the factors to be recorded as per each symptom and write the detail of each symptom.
An ultrastructural study on the mature spermatoBoa oi Cloptorchis sineitsis was carried out. For this study, the liver cukes were collected from the livers of rabbits and rats artificially infected with the metacercariae obtained from the fresh water fish, Pseudorasbora parve. Six-month old worms were used. The collected liver fiukes were washed with 0.85% saline solution and then immediately moved to cold 2% glutaraldehyde buffered with 0.1M Millonig's phosphate buffier (pH 7.4) . The materials were dissected into appropriate pieces in the fixative about 30 minutes after beginning of the fixation. Two hours later the materials containing the seminal receptacle were rinsed several times with the buffier and were secondarily fixed with cold, bugeyed 1% osmium tetroxide(OsO4) for 2 hours. The fully mixed tissue blocks Ivere dehydrated in a series of graded concentrations of acetone and were embedded in Epon 812 mixture. Thin sections obtained from LKB-5 ultramicrotome were stained with uranyl acetate and Reynold's lead citrate. Observations of the sections were carried out with JEM-100CX II electron microscope, In general, the mature sperm was long thread-like form with a sickle-shaped head. According to the longitudinal sectioned view of the sperm tail, the nucleus seemed to be spirally coiled and run a little far along the tail. The acrosome was not observed. The cytoplasm of the tail was biflagellated as usual in trematodes. Unlike other platyhelminth spermatozoa, the sperm tail of Clenorchis sinensis showed the ${\ulcorner}9+2{\lrcorner}$ in the microtubular arrangement. The mitochondria with poorly developed cristae were observed throughout the middle piece. The middle piece of the tail showed dull ladder or triangular shapes with the two flagella at the bottom. But, the principal piece of the tail was slightly flattened cylindrical shape with two aagella within the cytoplasm. The end piece was uniflagellated. It was not clearly identised whether the end piece was subdivided into two by aagellum or the lengths of the two aagella were different. The glycogen granules were rich in the cytoplasm throughout the lenght of the spermatozoa. These granules might be the energy source for the movement of the spermatosoa.
Arthroscopy is a valuable diagnostic and operative tool in equine and human orthopedics. The arthroscope is a difficult instrument to use and requires patience, practice, and persistence in order to obtain good results. This technique was found to be less traumatic than arthrotomy, invasiveness, rapid recovery and the feasibility of surgically correcting many arthropathies. The use of the arthroscope in the dog provides a new dimension in the study and diagnosis of joint derangements. The purpose of this report is to introduce the use of the arthroscope in the dog-more specifically, in the stifle of the dog. A diameter 2.7 mm fore-oblique viewing arthroscope, cold light source, video and video printer are used. With the fore-oblique viewing type it is possible to view directly as well as slightly to the side and the range of viewing can be increased by rotating the arthroscope around the object The scope is connected with a cold light source by means of a fiber-optic light guide. The stifle joint was flexed to 20~30$^{\circ}$. The joint were lavaged with lactated Ringer's solution during arthroscopic examination. Arthroscopy of the stifle was performed prior to arthrotomy in 1 dead dog and 4 healthy dogs, and other 3 dogs was performed only arthroscopic examination. In this study only the conventional approaches were used and in most cases it was possible to view all the intra-articular structures via the lateral infrapatellar approach. In the stifle joint, endoscopic observation was performed to find lateral femoral condyle, patella, medial femoral condyle, trochlear groove, tibia, fat, cranial cruciate ligament, caudal cruciate ligament lateral meniscus, tendon of long digital extensor muscle, medial meniscus, and medial collateral ligament Post-arthroscopic examination, the lameness had disappeared within 12~24 hours. Pain and swelling in the stifle joint had disappeared within 24~36 hours. Post-arthroscopic secondary infection was never encountered in the dogs. In conclusion, arthroscopic insertion technique in canine stifle joint using a diameter 2.7 mm 30$^{\circ}$ arthroscope was established and arthroscopical views of all anatomical structures in the normal stilfe joint were obtained through lateral infrapatellar portal.
In order to investigate the effect of feeding live yeast culture on the performance of laying hens, a feeding trial was conducted with 96 20-wk-old Hy4ine brown layers during their laying period of 60 wk. The live yeast culture used was a product from Saccharomyces cerevisiae that was cultured on the corn-based substrate followed by careful drying of whole material not to lose the viability of yeast. Three levels of yeast culture as 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0% for three treatments and 0% for the control were included in the experimental diets. The feeding trial was carried out for 60 wk from August 26, 1992 to October 26, 1993. To evaluate the performance of layers during cold or hot periods as affected by the yeast culture feeding, data from the 12-wk winter period and 12-wk summer period were separated and analyzed accordingly. During 60 wk of laying period hen-day egg production was slightly but significantly(P<.05) improved by feeding the yeast culture. The average egg weight and daily egg weight(g /day) were also increased by the yeast culture. Feeding the yeast culture did not increase feed intake but feed efficiency was improved significantly (P<.05). No significant difference was detected in egg or eggshell qualities between control and yeast culture-treated groups. Feed intake and egg weight were not affected by the yeast culture feeding under both cold and hot period, but egg production and feed efficiency during hot summer improved significantly by its feeding. This result indicates that the effectiveness of the yeast culture feeding is greater during summer than winter for laying hens.
Objectives The purpose of this study was to find out whether there were differences of urticaria's disease aspect between patients classified into Sasang Constitution Types(SCTs) and whether those differences could be associated with Ordinary symptoms. Methods Medical records and questionnaires about 117 patients who visited one Korean medicine hospital due to urticaria were collated and statistically analyzed. Results 1) Ages 20 to 30, women, Soeumin(SE) and patients in conditions of chronic urticaria over 6 weeks were the majority among 117 patients in this study. Food and stress were most chosen as the main cause of urticaria. 2) Soyangin(SY) showed more severe symptoms of urticaria than other SCTs. In particular, the severity of pruritus, distribution of lesions and vulnerability to stress was statistically significant compared to other SCTs(p<0.05). SE expressed urticaria's symptoms at the medium-level of SY's and Taeeumin(TE)'s. TE exhibited relatively weak symptoms but TE only had slightly higher number of patients with angioedema compared to other SCTs. Taeyangin(TY) was only one case so more researches are needed. 3) In dispositional symptoms, SY had low quality of sleep and defecation. SE could not digest oily food well, felt dizzy and cold well, and had cold hands and feet. TE could eat and sweat much and tended to snore well. Conclusions In this study, urticaria had common cause of both stress and food in all SCTs but onset and severity of symptoms were different between SCTs. It could interpreted that these differences between SCTs were associated with ordinary symptoms native to each SCT.

The gene encoding lipase (Lip98) from Aeromicrobium sp. SCSIO 25071 was cloned and functionally expressed in Escherichia coli. Lip98 amino acid sequence shares the highest (49%) identity to Rhodococcus jostii RHA1 lipase and contains a novel motif (GHSEG), which is different from other clusters in the lipase superfamily. The recombinant lipase was purified to homogeneity with Ni-NTA affinity chromatography. Lip98 showed an apparent molecular mass of 30 kDa on SDS gel. The optimal temperature and pH value for enzymatic activity were recorded at 30℃ and 7.5, respectively. Lip98 exhibited high activity at low temperatures with 35% maximum activity at 0℃ and good stability at temperatures below 35℃. Its calculated activation energy was 4.12 kcal/mol at the low temperature range of 15-30℃. Its activity was slightly affected by some metal ions such as K+, Ca2+, and Na+. The activity of Lip98 was increased by various organic solvents such as DMSO, ethanol, acetone, and hexane with the concentration of 30% (v/v) and retained more than 30% residual activity in neat organic solvent. The unique characteristics of Lip98 imply that it is a promising candidate for industrial application as a nonaqueous biocatalyst and food additive.
The objectives of this study were to provide fundamental information on how individual phenolic compounds form on the inside of apple slices during cold storage, the changes in the content of four types of phenols, ingredient variation of individual phenolic compounds and the influence of phenolic compounds on enzymatic browning. This study measured the changes in the content of soluble solids, pH and vitamin C in order to investigate the correlations between these variables. HD and FA were the main phenolic compounds found in the apple slices, and HD was the most prevalent phenol. Furthermore, comparison of the CG and EP content revealed that there were more CGs than EPs. The phenol content tended to decrease considerably in the fresh apple slices and water-dipped apple slices but only slightly in the CP from sucrose-dipped apple slices and 0.5% ascorbic acid solution-dipped apple slices. The degree of browning increased in the following order: fresh apple slices, water-dipped apple slices, 0.5% ascorbic acid solution-dipped apple slices and CP from sucrose-dipped apple slices. The vitamin C content tended to decrease in the fresh apple slices, water-dipped apple slices, 0.5% ascorbic acid solution-dipped apple slices and CP from sucrose-dipped apple slices. The pH tended to increase in all sample groups, but the pH of the water-dipped apple slices was lower than that of the comparison group. The CP from sucrose-dipped apple slices had the lowest value of pH. The change in soluble solids tended to increase in all treatment groups, but this increase was less in the CP from sucrose-dipped apple slice. Correlation analysis revealed a high degree of correlation between browning and chlorogenic acid content. The results of the present study show that, when stored in the fridge, the change in phenol ingredient content in apple slices influences the browning of the slices. The results also showed that HD and FA were the main phenolic compounds, while CG was shown to have the greatest influence on browning.
Objectives : Daechu (Dazhui:GV14 (Governor Vessel 14))-point is located between the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra and that of the 1st thoracic vertebra. GV14 has been used to treat hypertension, high fever, neck pain, common cold, headache and so on. Hypertension often negatively affects the improvement of stroke patients. We investigated whether wet-cupping at GV14 had any effect of decreasing blood pressure (BP). Methods : In this study, 81 stroke patients were studied, from Oct. 2000 to Sept. 2001. They were composed of a Sample group (n=36) and Control group (n=45). The Sample group (n=36) was divided into Sample-Normal (n=9), Sample-Mild (n=7), Sample-Moderate (n=l1), and Sample-Severe group (n=9). The Control group (n=45) was divided into Control-Moderate (n=34) and Control-Severe group (n=ll). We checked blood pressure 5 times (just before treatment, then after 30,60, 90, and 120min. (2hrs.)) in each sample group and 3 times (baseline, after 30, and after 120min. (2hrs)) in the control group. Results : In a comparison of before-treatment BP and after-treatment BP in the sample group, SBP significantly decreased as time passed, while DBP slightly decreased but not significantly. In comparison of BP differences in each sample subgroup, BP slightly increased in the Sample-Normal group, but significantly decreased in the Sample-Mild, Sample-Moderate, and Sample-Severe groups. In comparison of BP differences between the sample and control groups, SBP and DBP of the sample group definitely decreased more than those of the control group, but not significantly. Conclusions : This study suggests that wet-cupping at GV14 has significant decreasing effectson blood pressure in stroke patients. Accordingly, we hope that this measure will be used more widely as an emergent treatment for increased blood pressure.
관행, 저농약 및 유기농 재배한 참다래 과실의 저온저장 중 품질변화를 조사하였다. 경도는 저장초기 심하게 감소한 다음 연화되는 경향을 보였는데 연화 속도는 유기농 과실에서 다소 빨랐다. 당도는 저장 중 증가하는 경향을 보인 반면, 산함량은 감소하였고, pH는 변화가 없었다. 환원당 함량은 전분함량이 감소하면서 저장초기 크게 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 유기농 과실은 저장 중 부패율이 관행재배나 저 농약재배에 비해 유의하게 높았고, 병을 유기하는 병원균은 잿빛곰팡이, 연부병, 꼭지썩음병 순으로 높았다. 호흡량과 함께 에틸렌발생량이 증가하면서 과실이 연화되었는데, 호흡량과 에틸렌함량은 유기농 과실에서 다소 높은 경향을 나타내었다. 유기농 과실은 연화와 함께 부패과 증가로 관행재배나 저 농약재배에 비해 저장력이 감소되었다.
Eruptive mechanisms and processes at Udo tuff cone can be inferred from indicative characters of products, bedforms and lithofacies, and ring faults. In terms of bedforms and lithofa-cies in particular, massive lapilli tuff beds and chaotic lapilli tuff beds are derived from subaerial falls of aggregated tephra of wet tephra finger jets, occurring dominantly at the lower sequences of proximal part at the tuff cone. Crudely stratified lapilli tuff are derived from subaerial falls of slightly aggregated tephra of less wet tephra finger jets, whereas reversely graded lapilli tuff beds are from slightly disaggregated subaerial falls of continuous uprush. Both beds frequently occur in the middle sequences at proximal and near medial part of the tuff cone. Block and lapilli tephra lenses, ash-coated lapilli tephra beds(lenses) and thin-bedded tuff beds are derived from extremely disaggregated subaerial falls of dry tephra in the continuous uprush, frequently occurring at the upper sequences of medial part at the tuff cone. Udo tuff cone is a basaltic volcano emergent through the sea water surface while water could flood across or into the vent area. Emergence of the tuff cone was from the type-Surtseyan eruption characterized by earlier tephra finger jets and later continuous uprush columns of tephra with copious volumes of steam. Explosions began when boiling of wter produced a bubble column reducing the hydrostatic pres-sure, allowing exsolution of gases from the magma. This expansion of magma into a vesiculating froth fragmented the magma and permitted mixing of magma and water so that a more vigorous generation of steam could proceed. Tephra finger jetting explosions continued to build the crater rims, then remove water from the vent that their deposits flowed like slsurries until the continuous uprush explosion ensued. Continuous uprush explosions were associated with most rapid accumula-tion of tephra. The increasing volume rate led to partial removal of water from the vent area by the newly tephra ring so that more vigorous activity could be attended by a reducing water supply. This might restrain surplus of cold water entering the vent and thus enhance the vigour of the eruption by allowing optimal heat exchange. Eventually the crater became so deep and unsuported that piecemeal sliding, or massive subsidence on indipping ring faults, filled and closed the vent, and the cycle of explosions and collapse began anew.
