  • The purpose of this study was to assess the association between habitual snoring and metabolic syndrome in the Korean population and to evaluate it's possible gender variations. The study subjects were 2,007 volunteers aged 40-69 years who participated in regular health check-ups(male:434, female:1,573) from May 2012 to December 2012. Standard interviews, anthropometrics and biochemical studies were conducted. Habitual snoring was defined as snoring more than 4 days per week. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in our sampling pool was 17.4% (male: 20.7%, female: 16.5%), and this increased with age. After adjusting for age, smoke and alcohol consumption, sleep duration, regular exercise, the odds ratio of metabolic syndrome and it's components were increased significantly by habitual snoring. HDL-cholesterol, blood sugar, waist size were significantly higher in women, but not significantly higher in men.

  • Traditional cluster-based routing method is a representative method for increasing the energy efficiencies. In these cluster-based routing methods, the selected cluster head collect/aggregate the information and send the aggregated information to the base station. But they have to solve the unnecessary energy dissipation of frequent information exchange between the cluster head and whole member nodes in cluster. In this paper, we minimize the frequency of the information exchange for reducing the unnecessary transmit/receive frequencies as calculate the overlapped area or number of overlapped member nodes between the selected cluster head and previous cluster head in the setup phase. So, we propose the modified cluster selection protocol method that optimizes the energy dissipation in the setup phase and reuses the saved energy in the steady-state phase efficiently that prolongs the whole wireless sensor network lifetime by uniformly selecting the cluster head.

  • This study examined the demographic and oral behavioral risk factors for periodontal disease in adult workers. The research subjects and method were conducted targeting 1,650 Korean adult workers aged 20-64 utilizing the data from the fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V-3). As a result of this study, the periodontal tissue patients showed the risk factors for gender, age, income level, educational level, systemic disease, sleep hours, oral health level, biting trouble, and chewing difficulty. In terms of the greatest influence, the workers with problems with biting and chewing had a more than 3.5 times higher likelihood of being affected by periodontal disease. The findings of this study show that there are a variety of risk factors for periodontal diseases in Korean workers. To reduce the prevalence rate of periodontal disease, regular checkups including dental checkups and sufficient sleeping will be necessary, and the level of stress should be decreased. In addition, the government should take the required measures to remove the socioeconomic inequality, such as income gap or educational divide.

  • A Smartphone is an intelligent device combined mobile phone and pc's support functions, and can perform multiple functions to satisfy the demands of users. It has excellent processing power and communication modules(DMB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC etc) to carry out the demands of users. But continuous using of battery power on processor and equipped modules causes acceleration of battery consumption. This means that effective power management in devices like smartphone is important. Therefore, the management of power consumption on system execution and communication module is a serious issue in this field of study. In this paper, we would like to propose a communication module selection algorithm based on energy consumption parameter of each communication module and data transfer time. Our scheme automatically select appropriate communication system to reduce high energy consumption on bluetooth sleep mode so that this scheme is more efficient and effective thus improving user convenience in longer usage time. Experimental results showed the 20% energy saving.

  • This study aimed to identify the relationship between depression of the elderly and low back pain. Data were obtained from cross-sectional surveys conducted as a part of the Community Health Survey 2008. The final analysis included data from 3,647 of the 3,649 elderly participants (aged over 65 years), as 2 responses were excluded since they were inaccurate. Data were analyzed with SPSS for Windows (ver. 19.0), using a Rao-Scott ${\chi}^2$-test and Logistic regression by applying a proper weighting. The significance threshold was set as p<0.05. Factors related to the depression of the elderly were low back pain, subjective health status, average sleep duration. Further, depression score was 1.38 times higher in elderly adults with low back pain than elderly adults without low back pain. In order to decrease depression of the elderly with low back pain the development of a program to decrease activities of daily living discomfort and management of low back pain will need to be determined. It is considered necessary to conduct further study to follow through the analysis of the various variables by applying them to the elderly with low back pain and depression.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the association between depressive symptoms and psychological stress, and to investigate the factors affecting depressive symptoms among male high school students. The study subjects were 573 male students surveyed from a self-administered questionnaire in October 2015. As a result, the distribution of psychosocial stress of surveyed students was 14.8% of health group, 71.9% of latent stress group, 13.3% of high-risk stress group. Depressed level of 71.4% of the distribution is normal group, mild depression group 25.30%, moderate depression group 3.0%, 0.3% was severely depressed group. The factors influencing the students' depressed levels were subjective health status, whether breakfast, sleep hour per day, academic achievement, worries, satisfaction with school life, perceived family income and psychosocial stress has been selected. In particular, the stress is related to the high depression. Therefore, it is considered that stress management is necessary in order to reduce the students' depression.

  • The purpose of this study is a path modeling study to examine the factors that affect nursing students' quality of life. Subject consists of 209 nursing students in B City and G City. Collected data was analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and Amos 22.0. Variables that directly affect nursing students' quality of life were physical condition and stress, and the variable that directly affect stress were monthly income and physical condition. In other words, they were more stressed as the monthly income was lower(${\beta}=-,067$ p=.030) and their physical condition was worse(${\beta}=-.109$, p=.003), and their quality of life increased as they had sufficient physical condition(${\beta}=.083$, p=.013) and less stress(${\beta}=.-213$, p=.001). Based on the results of this study, educational programs to enhance the quality of life in order to improve information support and affectionate support of nursing students should be developed and applied.

  • In this study we conducted a questionnaire survey by purposive quota sampling(n=566) by status of workers(permanent workers, temporary workers and business owners) and age group(20-59 years old) for single households engaged in economic activities in order to compare the health behaviors and health checking by employment type and age. By employment type, the sleep time of permanent workers was significantly less than that of other groups(p<0.001), and the rates of health and oral examinations in permanent workers were significantly higher(p<0.001). By age group, as the age increased, the oral condition was worse(p<0.001), but the rates of not taking oral examinations were significantly higher(p=0.023). This study can be meaningful as basic data for making a healthy living environment according to various characteristics of single households.
