  • The paper presents results of parametric studies, and an overall approach for the design of a modular bridge system which incorporates a steel-reinforcement free concrete slab cast on top of carbon FRP stiffened deck panels which act as both structural formwork and flexural reinforcement, spanning between hollow box type FRP girders. Results of the parametric studies are highlighted to elucidate important relationships between critical configurational parameters and empirical equations based on numerical studies are presented. Results are discussed at the level of the individual deck and girder components, and as a slab-on-girder bridge system. An overall design methodology for the components and bridge system including critical performance checks is also presented.

  • For the construction of Top-Down structures, it is crucial to have a solid connection between prefounded columns and slabs. This paper presents a new construction method for the connection when using a circular Concrete Filled Tube (CFT) as a prefounded column as an alternative to currently using wide flange type columns. The development of shear studded jackets along with a shear band suitable for the circular shape of the column has been made. The details and mechanism of the connection is explained together with the results of experiments which verified the structural integrity of the connection.

  • This paper is concerned with the natural periods of ambient vibration and eigenvalue analysis. Ambient vibration tests were conducted to four bearing-wall reinforced concrete buildings ranging from twelve to nineteen stories. The performance of modeling in eigenvalue analysis was investigated using consideration of rigidity out of the plane in the slab and the non-structural bearing wall. Measured natural period was also compared with the value by the KBC2005. Natural period of the short direction in eigenvalue analysis is well fitted with the measured one. In the other hand, Natural period of the long direction in eigenvalue analysis is slightly more overestimated than the measured one. Natural period of the long direction in eigenvalue analysis was found to be enhanced by considering the effect of the stiffness out of the plane of the slab and non-structural wall in the structural modeling.

  • The section of double-tee is considered as one of the most efficient type for flexure. However, the depth of it is bigger then that of other slab systems. The story height of it is also increased because the duct space is required under the double tee in addition to their net depth. Thus, a new modified double-tees with the nib length of 1.58m was suggested in this study. The story height of this one is reduced up to 450mm by including duct space under the nib at the ends of slab. The four ends of the modified two single tees were designed by strut-tie models. Shear tests were performed on them to verify the safety. The ultimate shear strengths of non-prestressed two specimens were larger than the design shear strength by strut-tie models. They were failed in ductile with many distributed flexural crackings. However, the other prestressed two specimens showed much stiffer behaviors, less deflection. and strength than those of prestressed.

  • This paper is concerned with the time dependent service load behaviour of prestressed composite tee beams. The effects of creep and shrinkage of the concrete slab are modelled using the age adjusted effective modulus method and a relaxation approach. The tendon strain is determined considering compatibility of deformations and equilibrium of forces between the tendon and the composite tee beam. A parametric study is undertaken to study the influence of various aspects on the stress, strain and deformations of the concrete slab, steel beam and prestressing tendon. The effect of loading type and tendon relaxation has also been considered for various types of prestressing tendon materials. Recommendations are then made in relation to adequate span to depth ratios for varying levels of prestressing force.

  • This research investigates the actual data and construction technology of the massive bottom slab placed by $23,000m^3$ concrete quantity in site of the in-ground type LNG receiving terminal having 20,000kl storage capacity. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum mix design and control the actual concreting procedures including concrete production, transportation, placement, vibrating and curing in site. For this purpose, the optimum mix design using ternary blended cement(furnace slag cement+fly ash) and under piping method having 11 gates and 7 distributors are selected. As test results of actual construction, concrete placement is finished during 68hours with good success and obtained the good quality of the fresh and hardened concrete including slump, air contents, no-segregation, compressive strength and low hydration heat. Also, actual data for all of concrete procedures are proved successful and satisfied with our specifications.

  • Recently, the development of the paved track is required as a Low-maintenance of conventional line. The main reason is that the line capacity and bearing of track are increased progressively. The most important factor of paved track is stability and applicability. To be based on this subject, Cement Mortar Pouring(CMP) paved track is developed. CMP paved track is a kind of ballast reinforced track using the pre packed concrete technique. The most important to design is characteristics of the structure. CMP slab's thickness is less than the conventional slab track and pouring layer is attached tie and roadbed directly. On this paper, to verify the basic structure of the CMP track, characteristics of the structure is investigated pouring layer, tie and interaction of the each layer using the 3D finite elment analysis.

  • A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the modes of vibration of beams and tower structures, with irregular cross sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by Kim, D. H. in 1974. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the three span continuous reinforced concrete bridge with elastic intermediate supports is presented. Such bridge represents either concrete or sandwich type three span bridge on polymeric supports for passive control or on actuators for active control The concrete slab is considered as a special orthotropic plate. The influence of the modulus of the foundation and $D_{22}$, $D_{12}$, $D_{66}$ stiffnesses on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.

  • This study investigated experimentally the response of thick reinforced concrete specimens having hollow cores with critical parameters. The investigation includes testing of twelve specimens that are solid and hollow-core slab models. Each specimen consists of two pieces, the piece dimensions are (1.2 m) length, (0.3 m) width and (20 cm) thickness tested under both monotonic and repeated loading. The test program is carried out to study the effects of load type, core diameters, core shape, number of cores, and steel fiber existence. Load versus deflection at mid span, failure modes, and crack patterns were obtained during the test. The test results showed that core shape and core number has remarkable influenced on cracking pattern, ultimate load, and failure mode. Also, when considering repeated loading protocol, the ultimate load capacity, load at yielding, and ductility is reduced.

  • U-Channel Bridge is effective bridge type, because its edge beam performs role of barrier and enables to reduce additional dead loads. Nevertheless, there is possibility of bridge collapse under impact load due to car crash. Also, edge beam must have ability to induce safe driving and prevent falling accidents. Therefore, this study carries out analysis of behavior of edge beam and slab and evaluation of structural stability under impact loads, based on Korean Highway Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification. According to analysis result, the maximum stress of edge beam and slab satisfies specification of allowable stress.
