For this purpose, the authors proposed and proved usefulness of the modified mean skin temperature which is integrated mean radiation temperature and the effect of floor contacted heat conduction. The mean radiation temperature is applied form factor between half cross-legged human body and surrounding wall of indoor. In addition the floor contacted heat conduction is applied heat transfer coefficient of half cross-legged human body. Eight Korean young men were targeted for the experiment. From the experiment the authors excerpted physiological reaction and psychological reaction in Ondol environment which is combined physiccal environmental factor of artificial climate chamber, air and floor temperature. As a result of the experiment it is confirmed that heat conduction has more impact than heat exchange from existing research for the heat exchange between half cross-legged human body and surrounding wall in Ondol thermal environment. Thereby, it is proved the effectiveness of the modified mean skin temperature which is added floor contacted temperature to the Ondol thermal environmental evaluation index.
The cutaneous microcirculation plays a role in various physiological processes and pathological conditions. Two non-invasive methods were used in this study to obtain reference values for cutaneous microcirculation in intact male beagles. Twenty intact male beagles were used. The experimental environments were standardized. Laser Doppler flowmetry was used to measure cutaneous blood flow, and an infrared thermometer was used to measure cutaneous temperature. The blood flow and temperature were measured from the right side of the subjects at 20 cutaneous sites. Based on the laser Doppler flowmetry, the region with the highest blood flow was the periocular region that with the lowest was the forelimb foot pad. In addition, the standard deviation of the chest wall was the highest while that of the periocular region was the lowest. For skin temperature, the inguinal region had the highest mean skin temperature and the forelimb foot pad had the lowest. The correlation coefficient between the two methods was 0.72. Similar to a previous study, the values derived from repeated measurements at the 20 regions are reproducible and can contribute to research. Compared to the results of a previous study, the temperatures of the two smallest skin regions were the same; however, no specific trend was observed. The correlation coefficient between the two methods was significantly comparable, and this good correlation can reduce their limitations and variables complementarily. In addition to possible use in human studies, accumulated resources on measurements of skin blood flow in the future will potentiate its use in the veterinary medicine field.

Even in modern times, we are accustomed to the lifestyle of floor heating system in which the floor is heated for warmth like Ondol, which is the traditional Korean heating system. So, this study was designed to understand the preferred floor temperature through the questionnaires targeting the local residents living in K region. This study would also find out the floor temperature which is preferred by young people and old people through the experiments. The findings are as follows; (1) the old people do not prefer the temperature higher than young people do. It was found that the old people prefer the floor temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ or the floor temperature of $41^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. (2) Both young people and old people tend to like the average skin temperature of $35.5^{\circ}C$. The skin temperature which both young and old people like was $35.2^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $24^{\circ}C$ and the skin temperature preferred by young people was $0.4^{\circ}C$ higher than that preferred by under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ (p<0.01). (3) It was found in the questionnaires that the young people prefer the higher floor temperature in terms of age and that the people who get older in their 50s or higher tend to prefer the lower temperature.

Objective : This clinical research was conducted to test patients with Atopic Dermatitis by external application with Yeongyuseungmatang in cosmetics. Methods : We gave scores to 33 patients who visited the Dept. of Oriental Medical Opthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology of Semyung Jecheon Oriental Medical Hospital from April 17th, 2008 to June 12th. Seventeen patients were treated with Yeongyuseungmatang(Experimental group) and sixteen patients were treated with Atopico skin care cream(Control group) for 4weeks. We observed change of total IgE, eosinophil count, Skin Temperature, Transepidermal Water Loss(TEWL), Skin Hydration and Skin pH. Also Clinic Index of Atopic Dermatitis(SCORAD Index) and global assesment of efficacy were used to evaluate the effects of Yeongyuseungmatang. Statistical analysis was performed by using frequency analysis and descriptive analysis. Statistical significance was achieved if the probability was less than 5%(p<0.05). Results : 1. After 4 weeks of external application treatment, SCORAD Index in Yeongyuseungmatang was significant statistically decreased compared with control group. 2. After 4 weeks of external application treatment, eosinophil count in Yeongyuseungmatang was significant statistically decreased compared with control group but total IgE was very increased both Yeongyuseungmatang and control group. 3. Statistically, Yeongyuseungmatang and control group didn't showed significant effect on Skin Temperature was measured by Thermometer SM815. 4. Transepidermal Water Loss(TEWL) in Yeongyuseungmatang was significant statistically decreased compared with control group measured by Tewameter TM300. 5. Skin Hydration in Yeongyuseungmatang was significant statistically increased compared with control group measured by Corneometer CM825. 6. Statistically, Yeongyuseungmatang and control group didn't showed significant effect on Skin pH was measured by Skin-pH-Meter PH905. 7. After 4 weeks of external application treatment, Yeongyuseungmatang showed significant effect on global assesment of efficacy. Conclusion : Considering the above results, we can speculate that cosmetics with Yeongyuseungmatang has some therapeutical effects in mitigating the symptoms of atopic dermatitis.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of application methods in ultrasound on skin temperature and muscle blood flow. Thirty healthy volunteers without known vascular problems participated and randomly divided into three groups such as continuous wave group (CWG) which received a ultrasound treatment of continuous-wave, intermittent wave group (IWG) which received a ultrasound treatment of intermittent-wave at a dosage of $1.5\;W/cm^2$ for a duration of 5 minutes, and placebo group (PG) which received a ultrasound treatment of no-wave and no-dosage ultrasound to the anterior forearm. Blood flow and skin temperature was measured using MP 150 before and after ultrasound administration. The results were as follows : 1. Administration of ultrasound in all groups had increased effect on skeletal muscle blood flow immediately after treatment and for up to 10 minutes posttreatment. 2. CWG and IWG showed increased skin temperature immediately after a ultrasound administration and maintained to 10 minutes posttreatment. PG showed increased skin temperature immediately after a ultrasound administration but returned to initial state to 10 minutes posttreatment. 3. The great change on skeletal muscle blood flow among three groups showed in CWG ($6.27{\pm}1.72$) and then displayed in PG ($5.12{\pm}1.66$) and IWG ($4.61{\pm}2.19$) in order. 4. The vast change on skin temperature among three groups showed in CWG and then IWG and PG in order.
This study was conducted in order to determine the effect of Paraffin Therapy on release of pain, skin temperature and range of motion with joint diseases. This study was performed on 42 patients with general joint diseases and 21 patients with degenerative joint diseases. All the subjects were randomly assigned to three groups with 21 each. The experiment had been done from June, 1. 2002 to September, 30. 2002, in two general hospitals and a social welfare center using Digital Thermometer Kane-May KM330 and VAS(visual analogue scale). Each pint was measured in terms of skin temperature, pain scale and ROM(range of motion). The results of the experiment are as follows : 1. In application of three different heat modalities (Paraffin bath, Infra red, Hydro pack) on the Knee, Ankle, Elbow pints of the subjects for 30 minutes, the elevation of skin temperature and the reduction of pain scale were found to be significantly different. When checked right after the 30 minutes' application, the Infra red resulted in a higher degree elevation of skin temperature than two other modalities, while Paraffin bath resulted in the highest degree of the elevation of skin temperature when it was checked one hour after the application was over. It means that Paraffin bath lasted longer than the other two modalities(F=14.691, p<.000). 2. With Paraffin bath application, pint pain was reduced significantly both in 30 minutes and one hour checks(F=20.675, p<.001). 3. In terms of ROM(range of motion) increase, didn't seem to have any significant differences in 30 minutes and one hour. The results suggest that Paraffin therapy be helpful in maximizing th effects on pint diseases. I strongly suggest that further studies be done on other pints and muscle diseases using Paraffin bath in different methods of applying the therapy.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the Effect of Acupuncture Stimulation of Sohae(H3) and Sobu(H8) Acupoint on Skin Temperature of Sochung Acupint(H9, the end acupoint of Heart Meridian). Sohae and Sobu acupoint has a property of water and fire in the Five agents on Heart Meridian. Methods : Subjects were four healthy oriental medical students volunteers(male, mean age-28). One group(two subjects) received acupuncture on Sohae acupoint(H3) and the other group(two subjects) on Sobu acupoint(H8) while resting. Skin temperature was measured on Sochung acupoint(H9) before, during, and after acupunture stimulation. Each test took 15minutes. The initial 5minutes were definded as BAS(Before Acupuncture Stimulation) period, the following 5minutes as DAS(During Acupuncture Stimulation) period, the last 5minutes as AAS(After Acupuncture Stimulation) period. This test was performed twice in order to increase the statistical authenticity. Results : Our result indicates that acupuncrue stimulation of Sohae acupoint(H3) decreased and Sobu acupoint(H8) increased skin temperature on Sochung acupoint(H9) in the DAS period. The changes remained throughout the AAS period. Our conculusion are that stimulaton of the Water and Fire property-acupoint(H3, H8) on Heart changes the skin temperature on Sochung acupoint on the same Heart Meridian. However this study has no authenticity because it had no regard for many factors effecting on the result and the result of the study was the very reverse of our expectation.
The purpose of this study was to identify effects of the SP-6 acupressure on dysmenorrhea, skin temperature at th e CV2 acupoint. This study was a pretest-post test study design wit h a nonequivalent control group. Data were collected from May 1 to August 31, 2002. A total of 58 female student s from two universities participated in the study. Among them, 30 female students were assigned as the experimental group an d the other 28 students to the control group. Both groups were pretested before the intervention for three variables, the degree of dysmenorrhea, and skin temperature at the CV2 acupoint. Then, the SP-6 acupressure was provided for 20 minutes for students in the experimental group. The instruments used in this study included the Visual Analogue Scale developed by Johnson(1974), skin thermometer by Simson Eectric CO., Menstrual Attitudes Questionnaire Scale developed by Brooks-Gunn & Ruble(1980), and Stress scale developed by Chun and Kim(1990). The data were analyzed with the SAS program using Chi-square test, t-test, and ANCOVA and Bonferroni method were used to determine significant differences between the two groups. The results of this study are as follows ; 1. There was a statistically significant difference in the intensity of dysmenorrhea after the intervention with the experimental group having a lower intensity than the control group. 2. There was a statistically significant difference in skin temperature at the CV2 acupoint 30min (F=4.87, p=0.03) after the intervention with the experimental group having a higher temperature. In conclusion, the SP-6 acupressure has proved to be an effective nursing intervention to reduce dysmenorrhea. Therefore, it is recommended women suffering from dysmenorrhea use the SP-6 acupressure.
A pressure sensor in pulse measurement system is a core component for precisely measuring the pulse waveform of radial artery. A pulse sensor signal that measures the pulse wave in contact with the skin is affected by the temperature difference between the ambient temperature and skin surface. In this study, we found experimentally that the signal changes of the pressure sensors and a temperature sensor were caused by the temperature of the wrist surface while the pressure sensor was contacted on the skin surface for measuring pulse wave. To observe the signal change of the pulse sensor caused by temperature increase on sensor surface, Peltier device that can be kept at a set temperature was used. As the temperature of Peltier device was kept at $35^{\circ}C$ (the maximum wrist temperature), the device was put on the pulse sensor surface. The temperature and pressure signals were obtained simultaneously from a temperature sensor and six pressure sensors embedded in the pulse sensor. As a result of signal analysis, the sensor pressure was decreased during temperature increase of pulse sensor surface. In addition, the signal difference ratio of pressure and temperature sensors with respect to thickness of cover layer in pulse sensor was increased exponentially. Therefore, the signal of pressure sensor was modified by the compensation equation derived by the temperature sensor signal. We suggested that the thickness of cover layer in pulse sensor should be designed considering the skin surface temperature.

This study investigated the effects of wearing latex gloves with inner gloves on the skin hydration of the hands. Fifteen young males participated in the following three conditions: bare hand (BH), latex glove (LG), and latex glove with inner glove condition (LGIG) at an air temperature of $28^{\circ}C$ with 50%RH. Subjects typed a book for 120 min. The results were as follows. Skin hydration was greater for LG and LGIG than BH (p<.001), but no difference was found between LG and LGIG. Skin hydration showed greater values on the thenar and dorsum compared to the palm for both LG and LGIG (p<.05). Skin hydration on the thenar increased during the typing for LG and LGIG, but on the dorsum, palm and finger maintained after 40 min typing. There were positive relationships between hand skin hydration and hand temperature (p<.05). Subjects indicated 'much warmer' and 'more humid' for the LG and LGIG compared to the BH (p<.001), but no differences were found between LG and LGIG. In conclusion, wearing inner gloves inside latex gloves did not induce a reduction of skin hydration and hand temperature; however, significant differences were found in all measurements between bare hands and gloved hands.
