  • A bacterial strain No. HB-5, which was capable of producing a pretense in the culture conditions, was isolated from the soil . The pretense was purified from cultural filtrate of Bacillus sp. HB-5 by membrane ultrafiltration and DEAE- cellulose chromatography, gel filtration on Sephadex G-100. The molecular weight was estimated to be 60k4a. The optimal pH and temperature for the activity of the purified pretense pH were 11 and 5$0^{\circ}C$ , respectively. The enzyme was stable within a pH range 8-12 and up to 6$0^{\circ}C$ . The enzyme activity was highly inhibited by PMSF at 1mM. The proteolytic actions of pretense and papain on human epidermis keratins which are major protein impurities on the skin, were compared. The bacterial pretense degraded more effectively than papain. Product containing 2% protease exhibited 21% increase on the skin coloration index. These results suggest that cosmetic product containing pretense produced by Bacillus sp. HB-5 could remove the adherent keratin layer and then make a softer skin.

  • This paper presents a novel M-shaped encoder-decoder architecture for skin lesion segmentation, achieving better performance than existing approaches. The proposed architecture utilizes the left and right legs to enable multi-scale feature extraction and is further enhanced by integrating an attention module within the skip connection. The image is partitioned into four distinct patches, facilitating enhanced processing within the encoder-decoder framework. A pivotal aspect of the proposed method is to focus more on critical image features through an attention mechanism, leading to refined segmentation. Experimental results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed approach, demonstrating superior accuracy, precision, and Jaccard Index compared to existing methods

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of clothing materials and the opening of the garment on the microclimate of the skin simulating system during the coupled heat and moisture transfer. To determine the effect of size and location of openness of the garment, openness was simulated by removing parts of the spacer ring of the modelling system. To evaluate the changes of humidity and temperature of air layer in the system, buffering indice, Kd and Pr, and efficiency of openness were determined. When the openness was imparted to the system, the transport rate of heat and moisture increased abruptly; at the total openness of 26.4%, which simulated the openness of neck, armhole and waist, Kd increased at least more than three times of the closed system. As the openness increased, the effect of clothing materials decreased gradually to lose its effect at the 60% openness and approached the value of nude. Temperature regulating index showed, however, higher value than nude which was apparently due to the still air layer.

  • The purpose of the study is to develop a numerical model based on experimental data to estimate the thermal comfort in the driving room of a motorcar. For the ecperiments, three air temperature level of 21, 23, 25 .deg. C are set to measure variable such as average skin temperature, R-R interval, the comfort sensation, and the performance level. By performing statistical analysis with the results obtainted, it is observed that two physiological factors-average skin temperature and R-R interval have significant relation with the thermal comfort in the driving room. Thus, those two factors are included as parameters in the proposed model to estimate the thermal comfort.

  • Psoriasis, which is characterized by the covering of silver-white scaliness and various Sizes of redness with clear boundary, is an intractable skin disease that repeats aggravation and remission. The objective of the present clinical report is to demonstrate that oriental medical treatment after differentiation of syndromes is effective in treating psoriasis, an intractable skin disease. For this purpose, we identified the pattern of three psoriasis patients based on blood heat and viscous blood, and applied acupuncture and herbal medicine to them. The effect of treatment was evaluated using PASI (psoriasis area and severity index). In all of the three cases, the results of treatment were satisfactory. Thus, oriental medical treatment after differentiation of syndromes, which is highly effective without side effect, is considered to make a great contribution to the treatment of psoriasis in the future.

  • DA-125, a new anthracycline derivative, shows significant anticancer activities. We conducted a study to examine the local irritating effect of DA-125 using mice and rabbits. In the skin test in mice, intradermal injection of 0.4 mg of DA-125, compared to a dosage of 0.2 mg of adriamycin, had weak irritating potentials to induce skin ulceration and erythematous induration. A dosage of 0.6 mg of DA-125 produced similar degree of lesions in perivascular irritation model to that of 0.2 mg of adriamycin, but the healing time was shorter in the case of mice treated with DA-125. In ocular irritation study in rabbit, the highest M.O.I.(mean ocular irritation index) of 0.5% DA-125 solution was 0.67, therefore DA-125 could be considered as a practically non-irritating anticancer agent. These results suggest that substitution of DA-125 for Adriamycin would reduces the possibility of outbreaks of local irritation and the severity of the lesions.

  • Double skin composite walls offer structural and economic merits over conventional reinforced concrete counterparts in terms of higher capacity, greater stiffness, and better ductility. This paper investigated the axial behavior of double skin composite walls with steel truss connectors. Full-scaled tests were conducted on three specimens with different height-to-thickness ratios. Test results were evaluated in terms of failure mode, load-axial displacement response, buckling loading, axial stiffness, ductility, strength index, load-lateral deflection, and strain distribution. The test data were compared with AISC 360 and Eurocode 4 and it was found that both codes provided conservative predictions on the safe side.

  • Objective : This study was conducted to investigate anti-obesity effects of mixed-Powder(Raphani Semen, Coicis Semen, Poria, Plantaginis Testa & Theae folium)(HP) & mixed water extract(Citri Pericarpium, Crataegi Fructus, Maydis Stigma, Allium Skin) (HE) in mice fed a high-fat diet. Method : 50 Female ICR mice were divided into six groups; Normal group (Ve), high-fat diet group (Po), Po+HP(0.6g/kg) group(HP), Po+HE(1g/kg) group(HE), Po+(HP+HE) group(HPE), Po+(HP+HE)*2 group(DHPE). For 8 weeks, these groups were fed their respective diets. Body weight, liver weight and weights of adipose tissues, GOT/GPT index changes & Blood Glucose index changes were measured respectively. Lipid profiles in serum were analyzed by kit of blood. Results : Groups HP, HE, HPE, DHPE had significantly reduced body weight, liver weight, adipose tissue weights and GOT/GPT index, blood glucose index compared to the Po group. Also, serum triglyceride and total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, were significantly reduced when compared to the Po group. Group G1 had significantly increased high density lipoprotein levels. Conclusion : Mixed powder (HP) & mixed water extract (HE) show anti-obesity effects in mice fed a high-fat diet.

  • Recently, due to the effect of global warming, the high temperature phenomenon continues, and the time for workers exposed to high temperature, cold and infrared is increasing and then safety is threatened. Due to the nature of on-site work, the work is being carried out in an unreasonable manner due to the process, which is exposed to disasters due to high temperature and cold. Even though the injured skin may be damaged, the worker may not be aware of it and may be injured. By understanding the working environment of the worker and calculating the risk index and expressing it on the helmet, the surrounding colleagues inform the worker of the risk and take appropriate measures so that the accident can be prevented in advance. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of exposure duration on the workers' by measuring the exposure time, the risk index is displayed in the form of a traffic light to the helm, informing neighboring workers and managers, and transmitting to the workers by voice.
