  • Kicking someone has clothes on causes direct contact between victim's clothes and skin. This contact makes material exchange from skin to inner clothes. In this study, foot impressions by transferred to cloths from skin would be enhanced by amino acid staining reagent (ninhydrin, 1,2-IND/Zn, DFO). In view of research ethics, we conducted this research with porcine skin instead of human's one. To mimic human's skin condition, applied artificial sweat on porcine skin. According to results, ninhydrin showed high contrast on light colored background and 1,2-IND/Zn, DFO showed high contrast on dark colored background. It showed different results up to kind of fabrics.

  • Three kinds of prenylated flavonols, icariside I, icariside II, and icaritin, were isolated from an icariin hydrolysate and their effects on melanogenesis evaluated based on mushroom tyrosinase inhibition and quantifying the melanin contents in melanocytes. Although none of the compounds had an effect on tyrosinase activity, icariside II and icaritin both effectively inhibited the melanin contents with an $IC_{50}$ of 10.53 and $11.13{\mu}M$, respectively. Whereas icariside II was obtained from a reaction with ${\beta}$-glucosidase and cellulase, the icariin was not completely converted into icariside II. Thus, for the high-purity production of icariside II, the reaction was optimized using the response surface methodology, where an enzyme concentration of 5.0mg/ml, pH 7, $37.5^{\circ}C$, and 8 h reaction time were selected as the central conditions for the central composite design (CCD) for the enzymatic hydrolysis of icariin into icariside II using cellulase. Empirical models were developed to describe the relationships between the operating factors and the response (icariside II yield). A statistical analysis indicated that all four factors had a significant effect (p<0.01) on the icariside II production. The coefficient of determination $(R^2)$ was good for the model (0.9853), and the optimum production conditions for icariside II was an enzyme concentration of 7.5mg/ml, pH 5, $50^{\circ}C$, and 12 h reaction time. A good agreement between the predicted and experimental data under the designed optimal conditions confirmed the usefulness of the model. A laboratory pilot scale was also successful.

  • This study aimed to comparatively analyze changes in skin conditions according to the frequency of sheet mask use among women in their 60s. An experiment was performed for 5 weeks from May 1 to June 3, 2020. A total of 70 women in their 60s, who understood the purposes of this study and agreed to the experiment were selected. All empirical analyses were conducted at a significance level of 5%, and the SPSS WIN 21 program was used to perform statistical analysis. Increased moisture content, decreased coarseness, changes in sebum levels, and decreased pigmentation, were significant effects of sheet mask use for 7days per week. As long as the sheet mask did not irritate the skin, had a positive effects on the skin the more often it was used. These results can help in enhancing the effectiveness of systematic measurement and improvement of skin type. To determine factors affecting skin conditions, it is necessary to investigate and compare factors such as effects of dietary or living habits, genetic influence, and living environments.

  • The CLA used to add in diet was chemically synthesized by alkaline isomerization method with corn oil. To investigated the effects of conjugated linoleic acid(CLA) added diet feeding on CLA accumulation and blood characteristics of pork, a total of 64 Landrace was fed both CLA-free and CLA-added(0.3, 0.6 and 0.9%) diet for 1∼4 weeks. Cholesterol compositions in blood and CLA contents and fatty acid compositions of loin, belly, bone and skin were determined at 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks after CLA added at fed. The HDL content in blood of all treatments was higher(P<0.05) than that of control and that of treatment 3 was higher(P<0.05) than that of other treatments among the CLA feeding periods. Palmitic, stearic and linolenic acids composition of loin and belly was increased but oleic, linoleic and arachidonic acids composition of them was decreased according to increasing the CLA feeding periods. CLA contents of loin and belly were higher than that of control and increased according to increasing the quantity of CLA and CLA feeding periods. CLA contents of bone and skin were higher than that of control, too. CLA content of skin was higher than that of bone. It was suggested that CLA could be accumulated in loin, belly, bone and skin by dietary CLA supplementation, and the CLA concentration and fatty acid composition in muscle could be affected by CLA level in diet and feeding period.

  • Natural polyphenolic compounds such as catechin, epicatechin derivatives, quercetin, and resveratrol, have been reported to have a wide range of biological activities against carcinogen and reactive oxygen species. The compounds can act together in synergy or can independently affect the activity. Contents of four compounds in different grape cultivar groups with different skin color were determined through HPLC. There were not significant differences in content of four phenolic compounds among the different skin color groups of the same grape cultivar groups, but were among different grape cultivars within the same skin color groups. Totally, contents of catechin, epicatechin derivatives were much higher than those of quercetin and resveratrol. In each skin color group, Campbell Early in Black, Seneka in Green, and Benigard in Red group showed highest contents, respectively. Nothing or a very small amount of four phenolic compounds was detected in some cultivars. This information would be useful for grape breeders and manufactures.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to confirm the dose-dependent skin moisturizing effects of dried pomegranate concentrate powder (PCP) and pomegranate concentrate solution (PCS) in ICR mice. Materials and methods: To observe the in vivo skin moisturizing effects and possible underlying mechanisms of PCP and PCS, oral PCP (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) and PCS (1, 2, and 4 mL/kg) were administered to normal ICR mice. Changes in body weight, skin water content, and skin type I collagen and hyaluronan contents were measured. Additionally, the mRNA expression levels of hyaluronan synthase (Has) 1, 2, and 3, and collagen type I alpha (COL1A) 1 and 2 were determined in the dorsal skin of mice by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: Significant and dose-dependent increases in dorsal skin water content and type I collagen and hyaluronan contents were seen in PCP and PCS-treated mice. Moreover, the mRNA levels of Has 1, 2, and 3, involved in hyaluronan synthesis, and of COL1A1 and COL1A2, involved in collagen synthesis, were significantly and dose-dependently upregulated in PCS- and PCP-treated mice. Conclusions: In this study, PCP and PCS led to favorable skin moisturizing effects as indicated by increased skin water content and the upregulation of hyaluronan and collagen synthesis enzymes in mice treated with PCS (4 mL/kg) and PCP (200 mg/kg).

  • Kimchi contains various antioxidative components, therefore it is expected that kimchi have the inhibitory activity on aging. Among the many factor related to aging, UV radiation is the easiest way to induce skin aging. This experiment was designed to demonstrate the antioxidative activity of dietary kimchi with and without UV radiation in tissues. Lyophilized Korean cabbage kimchi, mustard leaf kimchi and buchu kimchi were used for measurement of the contents of antioxidative components. Chlorophyll contents in buchu and mustard leaf kimchi were higher than cabbage kimchi, and the contents of carotene and ascorbic acid were higher in the mustard leaf kimchi. To clarify the antioxidative activity of various kimchi diets in vivo system, hairless mice were fed the diet containing 10% lyophilized kimchi for 20 weeks. Contents of superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical in liver were not shown significant differences, however hydrogen peroxide were significantly decreased in mustard leaf and buchu kimchi diet groups. Supplementation of all kinds of kimchi diets attenuated the hepatic NDA accumulation, especially in mustard leaf and leek kimchi group. In the skin, the contents of MDA were decreased in kimchi groups compared to control group, especially the buchu kimchi diet significantly inhibited the lipid peroxidation. To elucidate the effect of kimchi diets on photooxidation, the extent of oxidative damage in liver and skin was measured after UVB radiation treatment. The contents of lipid peroxides was decreased in mustard leaf kimchi group and cabbage kimchi group compared to control, while lipid peroxidation was increased in buchu kimchi diet group. It suggests that chlorophylls and other antioxidative nutrients in the various kimchi diets are related to antioxidation or photooxidation and it might be needed further study to certify the exact mechanisms.

  • In this paper, we present the improvement in low moisturizing ability and stability that existing skin softeners have due to the low oil content, by developing skin softener using nanoemulsion of phospholipid liposome, based on the properties of nanoemulsion in cosmetic formulation. In this study, two types of oil; dimethicone (DC 200/6cs) or medium chain triglyceride (MCT), and two kinds of lecithin; unsaturated or saturated were respectively applied to produce nanoemulsion. In the particle size analysis of nanoemulsion, the droplet size of nanoemulsion containing DC200/6cs and unsaturated lecithin was the smallest, and all nanoemulsion showed high stability in the measurement of zeta potential. Therefore, with the smallest particle size and high stability, moisture contents and trans epidermal water loss(TEWL) were measured using the skin softener of DC200/6cs and unsaturated lecithin contained nanoemulsion, and the measurement was compared with the non-oil skin softener and the skin softener with only small amount of oil. The results showed that the moisture content of the skin softener using nanoemulsion increased greatly than other two skin softeners, showing high hydration ability and water retention capacity, and TEWL decreased greatly, therefore preventing the evaporation of moisture from the skin. As a result, the oil content and stability of the skin softener was improved by utilizing nanoemulson based of phospholipid liposome, and it is expected to be used in various ways in cosmetic industry.
