  • This paper proposes methods to extract face elements and facial characteristics points for face recognition. We select a candidate region of the face elements with geometrical information between them inside the extracted face region with skin color and extract them using their inherent features. The facial characteristics to be applied to face recognition is expressed with geometrical relation such as distance and angle between the extracted face elements. Experiment results shows good performance to extract of face elements.

  • Flow characteristics are numerically investigated when a packet of waves consisting of a Tollmien-Schlichting wave and a pair of Squire waves evolves in a flat-plate laminar boundary layer using a large eddy simulation with a dynamic subgrid-scale model. Characteristics of early stage transitional boundary layer flow such as the .LAMBDA. vortex, variation of the skin friction and backscatter are predicted. Smagorinsky constants and the eddy viscosity obtained from the dynamic subgrid-scale model significantly change as the flow evolves. Far Field noise radiated from the transitional boundary layer shows the dipole and quadrupole characteristics owing to the wall shear stress and the Reynolds stresses, respectively.

  • Measurement of different skin parameters are widely used in the practices and researches of the modern acupuncture. The most important parameter is conductance or impedance. For measurement, some researchers used D.C. and others used A.C. It has been experimentally shown that the acupuncture points and meridian lines have the characteristics of high potential, low electrical resistance, high capacitance, spontaneous sound production, spontaneous light production, and high temperature. The Purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Hapkok(LI-4, 合谷) on experimental frequency characteristics in Hapkok. The result of data analyses indicated that significant differences arise at frequency under 100Hz. We propose that development of Meridian detecting system or Meridian diagnosis system should be done using frequency under 100Hz.

  • Purpose: The aims of this study were to assess the in vitro co-culturing pattern of isolated skin-derived precursor cells (SKPs) with a mixed demineralized bone (DMB) and fibrin glue scaffold and to evaluate in vivo osteogenesis after transplantation of autogenous SKPs with a these mixed scaffold in the animal's mandibular defects. Materials and Methods: We isolated SKPs from the ears of adult 4 miniature pigs. The isolated SKPs were co-cultured with a mixed DMB and fibrin glue scaffold in a non-osteogenic medium for 1, 2, and 4 weeks. Histological characteristics of in vitro co-cultured cells and scaffold were evaluated. $1{\times}10^7\;cells/100\;{\mu}l$ of autogenous porcine SKPs were grafted into the mandibular defects with a DMB and fibrin glue scaffold. In the control sites, only a scaffold was grafted, without SKPs. After two animals each were euthanized at 2 and 4 weeks after grafting, the in vivo osteogenesis was evaluated with histolomorphometric and osteocalcin immunohistochemical studies. Results: Homogeneously shaped skin-derived cells were isolated from porcine ear skin after 3 or 4 weeks of primary culture. In vitro osteogenic differentiation of SKPs was observed after co-culturing with a DMB and fibrin glue scaffold in a non-osteogenic medium. Von Kossa-positive bone minerals were also noted in the co-cultured medium at 4 weeks. As the culture time progressed, the number of observable cells increased. Trabecular new bone formation and osteocalcin expression were more pronounced in the SKP-grafted group compared to the control group. Conclusion: These findings suggest that autogenous SKP grafting with a DMB and fibrin glue scaffold can serve as a useful alternative to bone grafting technique.

Analysis of Galvanic Skin Response Signal for High-Arousal Negative Emotion Using Discrete Wavelet Transform (이산 웨이브렛 변환을 이용한 고각성 부정 감성의 GSR 신호 분석)

  • Emotion has a direct influence such as decision-making, perception, etc. and plays an important role in human life. For the convenient and accurate recognition of high-arousal negative emotion, the purpose of this paper is to design an algorithm for analysis using the bio-signal. In this study, after two emotional induction using the 'normal' / 'fear' emotion types of videos, we measured the Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) signal which is the simple of bio-signals. Then, by decomposing Tonic component and Phasic component in the measured GSR and decomposing Skin Conductance Very Slow Response (SCVSR) and Skin Conductance Slow Response (SCSR) in the Phasic component associated with emotional stimulation, extracting the major features of the components for an accurate analysis, we used a discrete wavelet transform with excellent time-frequency localization characteristics, not the method used previously. The extracted features are maximum value of Phasic component, amplitude of Phasic component, zero crossing rate of SCVSR and zero crossing rate of SCSR for distinguishing high-arousal negative emotion. As results, the case of high-arousal negative emotion exhibited higher value than the case of low-arousal normal emotion in all 4 of the features, and the more significant difference between the two emotion was found statistically than the previous analysis method. Accordingly, the results of this study indicate that the GSR may be a useful indicator for a high-arousal negative emotion measurement and contribute to the development of the emotional real-time rating system using the GSR.

Characteristics and Cellular Protective Effects against UVA of Cationic Liposome Loaded with Quercetin and Rutin (쿼세틴과 루틴을 담지한 양이온 리포좀의 특성조사 및 UVA에 대한 세포 보호 효과)

  • Quercetin and its glycoside, rutin, are flavonoids, which are well known as natural antioxidants. In this study, cationic liposomes loaded with flavonoids (quercetin or rutin) were investigated for their effects on cell and skin permeability, and protective effects against UVA. The particle size of the empty cationic liposomes was in the range of 100~130 nm, and the zeta potential was + 33.05 mV. The entrapment efficiency of 0.5R/CL was higher than that of 0.5 Q/CL. The cellular uptake of the cationic liposomes was five-fold higher than that of liposomes. The skin permeability of quercetin and rutin was investigated using Franz diffusion cells. Compared to the initial loading dose, the amount of quercetin or rutin delivered to the skin by cationic liposomes was higher than that delivered by conventional liposomes or phosphate-buffered saline. From the protective effect of cationic liposomes against UVA ($25J/cm^2$), we found that the cell viability in cationic liposomes containing flavonoids was higher than that of using UVA irradiation only. These results indicate that cationic liposomes provide enhanced delivery of flavonoids (quercetin and rutin) into the skin and may be used for antiaging and antioxidant cosmetics.

Physicochemical Properties of Different Grape Varieties Cultivated in Korea (국내에서 재배한 포도 품종간의 이화학적 특성 비교)

  • The aim of this study was to describe the effects of genetic factors on the chemical composition or metabolites of grapes harvested within the same region. Grapes were separated into pulp, skin, and seed, and physicochemical characteristics were compared among seven grape varieties. The sugar concentrations of the grape musts ranged from $15.17-20.93^{\circ}Bx$ with Seibel variety being highest at $20.93^{\circ}Bx$. pH ranges of grape musts were 3.46-4.02 and total acidity was highest with 1.05 in Steuben variety. Tartaric acid content was highest with 146.68, 500.10 mg/L in pulp and skin extract of Merlot variety. Malic acid content was highest in pulp extract of Seibel variety (1127.14 mg/L) and skin extract of Chardonnay variety (1720.06 mg/L). K content was highest with 379.13 and 828.01 mg/L in pulp and skin extract of Chardonnay variety. Ca content was highest in pulp extract of Kyoho variety (6.98 mg/L) and skin extract of Campbell Early variety (12.26 mg/L).

Evaluation of Vertical Bearing Capacity for Bucket and Shallow Foundations Installed in Sand (사질토 지반에 설치된 버킷기초 및 얕은기초의 수직지지력 산정)

  • The vertical bearing capacity of a bucket foundation installed in sand can be calculated as sum of the skin friction and end bearing capacity. However, the current design equations are not considering the non-associated flow characteristics of sand and the reduction in the skin friction and increase in the end bearing capacity when the vertical load is applied. In this study, we perform two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element analyses following non-associated flow rule and calculate the vertical bearing capacity of circular bucket foundation of various sizes installed in sand of different friction angles. After calculating the skin friction and end bearing force at the ultimate state, design equations are derived for each. The skin friction of bucket foundation is shown significantly small compared to the end bearing capacity. Considering the difference with the available design equation for piles, it is recommended that the equation for piles is used for the bucket foundation. A new shape-depth factor ($s_q{\cdot}d_q$) for bucket foundation is recommended which also accounts for the increment of the end bearing capacity due to skin friction. Additionally, the shape and depth factor of embedded foundation proposed from the associated flow rule can overestimate the bearing capacity in sand, so it is more adequate to use the shape-depth factor proposed in this study.

  • This study compared the current status, opening costs, and service of skin beauty franchises in Korea and the U.S. with the aim of providing data for skin beauty franchises. The main items in both countries include facial and body care, with 54 mean value in Korea, which is smaller than 361 mean value in the U.S. The U.S. franchise fee is about 1.5 times higher than that in Korea, and franchisees pay royalties of 20-60(ten thousand KRW) per month in Korea and 5-6 percent of annual sales in the U.S., as well as submit a net worth requirement and cash requirement. There are many spa services in the U.S. which creates differences in cost from Korea. and for the education, the cost was set in Korea while the time in the U.S. Every franchise offered facial and body care services. In addition, most Korean franchises run bridal care services, while in the U.S., waxing, men's treatment, hot stone, and spa services are offered. These differences are the result of differences in climate and race between the two countries, as well as differences in perception regarding the socio-cultural atmosphere, skin beauty, and openness.

A Study on the Relationship between Sasang Constitution and the Facial Skin in Acute Stroke Patients (급성기 중풍 환자의 사상체질과 안면피부에 관한 상관성 분석)

  • Objectives : This study was done to investigate the relationship between Sasang constitution and the facial skin in acute stroke patients Methods : In the time of period Mar. 2007 to Jun. 2007, 103 patients with stroke admitted in the department of Internal Medicine of Kyungwon University Seoul Oriental Medical Hospital, Kyungwon University Incheon Oriental Medical Hospital, Kyunghee University Oriental Medical Hospital, Dongguk Il-san Oriental Medical Hospital were included. We assessed the type of Sasang constitution, and the type of Sasang constitution of 51 patients were confirmed. We investigated general characteristics, stroke type and the relationship between Sasang constitution and the facial skin. Results : The color of face have no significant differences by Sasang constitution. But So-yang have blue and purple colored lips than So-eum and Tae-eum have. Conclusions : In this study, we found the relationship between Sasang constitution and the facial skin in acute stroke patients. But it seems necessary to investigate more cases to concrete conclusion on this theme.
