Bending and buckling of porous multidirectional functionality graded sandwich plate

  • Bending and buckling analysis of multi-directional porous functionally graded sandwich plate has been performed for two cases namely: FG skin with homogeneous core and FG core with homogeneous skin. The principle of virtual displacements was employed and the solution was obtained using Navier's technique. This theory imposes traction-free boundary conditions on the surfaces and does not require shear correction factors. The validation of the present study has been performed with those available in the literature. The composition of metal-ceramic-based FGM changes in longitudinal and transverse directions according to the power law. Different porosity laws, such as uniform distribution, unevenly and logarithmically uneven distributions were used to mimic the imperfections in the functionally graded material that were introduced during the fabrication process. Several sandwich plates schemes were studied based on the plate's symmetry and the thickness of each layer. The effects of grading parameters and porosity laws on the bending and buckling of sandwich plates were examined.

The composition of metal-ceramic-based functionally graded material (FGM) changes in longitudinal and transverse directions according to the power law. Imperfections in the functionally graded material introduced during the fabrication process were modeled with different porosity laws such as evenly, unevenly distributed, and logarithmic uneven distributions. The effect of porosity laws and geometry parameters on the natural frequency was investigated. On comparing the natural frequency of two cases for perfect and imperfect sandwich plates a reverse trend in natural frequency result was seen. The finding shows a multidirectional functionally graded structures perform better compared to uni-directional gradation. Hence, critical grading parameters and imperfection types have been identified which will guide experimentalists and researchers in selecting fabrication routes for improving the performance of such structures.

  • This study was investigated the effects of ambient temperatures and menstrual cycle on Resting Metabolic Rate(RMR), Rectal Temperature(Tre), Skin(forehead, chest, abdomen, forearm, hand, thigh, leg, foot) Temperatures, and subjective thermal sensations in 8 young Korean females(ages 22-25, voluntarily). The Tre and the Skin Temperatures were measured in once every five minute for one hour. RMR was measured three times at 30 minutes intervals by indirect calorimetry. All measurements were gathered during Luteal Phase(LP), Menstruation(M), and Follicular Phase(FP) at two levels of ambient temperatures; low(17~21$^{\circ}C$) and middle(21.1~$25^{\circ}C$). LP were the highest values during FP and M in RMR, Tre, forehead temperature, chest temperature and abdomen temperature, while the leg(leg and foot) and arm(forearm and hand) temperatures were higher during FP rather than during LP at each ambient temperature. The downward curve of Tre in the experiment was larger during FP than LP. The values in subjective thermal sensations were most comfortable during LP than M and FP at each ambient temperature. The LP-FP differences in core and mean skin temperatures, and resting metabolic rate, were more significant at middle ambient temperatures than at low ambient temperatures.

Effects of Low-Dose Aspirin Therapy on Thermoregulation in Firefighters

  • Background: Heart attack is the most common cause of line-of-duty death in the fire service. Daily aspirin therapy is a preventative measure used to reduce the morbidity of heart attacks but may decrease the ability to dissipate heat by reducing skin blood flow. Methods: In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, firefighters were randomized to receive 14 days of therapy (81-mg aspirin or placebo) before performing treadmill exercise in thermal-protective clothing in a hot room [$38.8{\pm}2.1^{\circ}C$, $24.9{\pm}9.1%$ relative humidity (RH)]. Three weeks without therapy was provided before crossing to the other arm. Firefighters completed a baseline skin blood-flow assessment via laser Doppler flowmetry; skin was heated to $44^{\circ}C$ to achieve maximal cutaneous vasodilation. Skin blood flow was measured before and after exercise in a hot room, and at 0 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes of recovery under temperature conditions ($25.3{\pm}1.2^{\circ}C$, $40.3{\pm}13.7%\;RH$). Platelet clotting time was assessed before drug administration, and before and after exercise. Results: Fifteen firefighters completed the study. Aspirin increased clotting time before and after exercise compared with placebo (p = 0.003). There were no differences in absolute skin blood flow between groups (p = 0.35). Following exercise, cutaneous vascular conductance (CVC) was $85{\pm}42%$ of maximum in the aspirin and $76{\pm}37%$ in the placebo groups. The percentage of maximal CVC did not differ by treatment before or after recovery. Neither maximal core body temperature nor heart rate responses to exercise differed between trials. Conclusion: There were no differences in skin blood flow during uncompensable heat stress following exercise after aspirin or placebo therapy.

피(皮)의 분(分)과 부(部)에 대한 연구 - "황제내경(黃帝內經)"을 중심으로 - (Study on Portions and Layers of the Skin - based on "Naejing(內經)" -)

  • By studying the portions and layers(分部), left and right, superior and inferior, location of yin and yang, and beginning and end of diseases of skin, which is the core point of the theory of cutaneous region(皮部論) in "Naejing(內經)", in the physiological and pathological perspective, based on opinion of historic memorial doctors, arrived to the conclusion as below. Cutaneous region means not only the distribution of three yin and three yang(三陰三陽) of the surface, but also inside and outside, shallowness and depth, and it is the system which unites meridians, networks, and vessels. It is divided into portions and layers. The origin and beginning of diseases and the rule of favorable pattern and unfavorable pattern can be known through it. The portion of skin is not only the area that meridian vessels belongs to skin, but also the area that activation of twelve meridian vessels are expressed in the surface. The layer of skin is consisted in order of skin-tertiary collateral vessel-collateral vessel-meridian vessel-bone. In "Naejing", there are two preconditions to divide three yin and three yang into yin and yang. The first is standing while looking the south, and second is the quotation "outside is side of yang(外者爲陽 內者爲陰)." According to this preconditions, yang of outside of yang brightness, lesser yang, and greater yang is the whole body, except inside of hand and foot which yin of lesser yin, pericardium, and greater yin. Superior and inferior of the portions and the layers is designated as hand and foot, theological basis of which superior and inferior work in same diagnostic method can be found in the root and the basis(標本) and the origin and the insertion(根結). In conclusion, cutaneous region not only manages layer of the skin, but also it is divided into layers and portions, so it has close relations between meridian vessels and collateral vessels. The in-depth study of cutaneous region and meridians should be progress, in order to practice of diagnosis and acupuncture and moxibustion more.

Development of big data based Skin Care Information System SCIS for skin condition diagnosis and management

  • 피부상태의 진단과 관리는 뷰티산업종사자와 화장품산업종사자에게 그 역할을 수행함에 있어서 매우 기초적이며 중요한 기능이다. 정확한 피부상태 진단과 관리를 위해서는 고객의 피부상태와 요구사항을 잘 파악하는 것이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 피부상태 진단 및 관리를 위해 소셜미디어의 빅데이터를 사용하여 피부상태 진단 및 관리를 지원하는 빅데이터기반 피부관리정보시스템 SCIS를 개발하였다. 개발된 시스템을 사용하여 텍스트 정보 중심의 피부상태 진단과 관리를 위한 핵심 정보를 분석하고 추출할 수 있다. 본 논문에서 개발된 피부관리정보시스템 SCIS는 빅데이터 수집단계, 텍스트전처리단계, 이미지전처리단계, 텍스트단어분석단계로 구성되어 있다. SCIS는 피부진단 및 관리에 필요한 빅데이터를 수집하고, 텍스트 정보를 대상으로 핵심단어의 단순빈도분석, 상대빈도분석, 동시출현분석, 상관성분석을 통해 핵심단어 및 주제를 추출하였다. 또한 추출된 핵심단어 및 정보를 분석하고 산포도, NetworkX, t-SNE 및 클러스터링 등의 다양한 시각화 처리를 함으로써 피부상태 진단 및 관리에 있어 이를 효율적으로 사용할 수 있도록 하였다.

안면부에 발생한 각화극세포종의 치험례 (KERATOACANTHOMA ON FACIAL SKIN : CASE REPORT)

  • Keratoacanthoma is a benign, self-limited epithelial lesion that closely resembles Squamous cell carcinoma(SCC). Keratoacanthoma occur primarily exposed skin in male patients over 45 years of ages. although etiology is unknown, sunlight, genetic, and human papillomavirus factor have been considered. in clinical feature, rapid enlargement occurs over 4$\sim$8 weeks, resulting ultimately in a hemispheric, firm, elevated, asymptomatic nodule that contains a central plug of keratin. When fully developed, the keratoacanthoma contains a core of keratin surrounded by a concentric collar of raised skin. Over the next 4$\sim$8 weeks, static lesion persists. Then undergoes spontaneous regression over the next 6$\sim$8weeks period by expulsion of the keratin core with resorption of the mass. In histologic feature, Keratoacanthoma consists of hyperplastic squamous epithelium growing into the underlying connective tissue. The surface is covered by a thickened layer of parakeratin with central plugging. Epithelium cell shows dysplastic features and the margins the normal adjacent epithelium is elevated. The differential diagnosis includes SCC. Keratoacanthoma present as a exophytic lesion with horny keratin occupying a depression on the top of the lesion, persists static period and undergoes rapid growth compared with SCC. Keratoacanthoma is usually treated by surgical excision or curettage of the base, spontaneous regression does not occur in every case. A 60 years old male who present facial lesion visit our hospital and surgical excision was done. Biopsy result was keratoacanthoma. We report case with review of literatures.

신품종 배 '감천'과 '추황'의 수확시기에 따른 저장반응 (Storage Response of 'Kamchun' and 'Chuhwang' Pears by Harvest Dates)

  • 본 연구는 신품종 '감천'과 '추황' 배 과실에 있어 수확시기에 따른 저장성을 조사하여 이들 품종의 수확 후 관리를 위한 기초 자료로 활용하고자 하였다. '감천'은 대과로서 당도는 13.2% 이상으로 수확시기에 관계없이 높았고 산도는 0.082% 이하로 낮아 전반적인 품질이 우수하였고 저장 중 과피 흑변이 전혀 발생하지 않았지만 과심 갈변이 10월 중순 이후 수확한 과실에서 40% 정도로 높게 발생하였다. '추황'은 경도가 높고 산함량이 높으며 저장 중 과피 흑변이 수확시기에 관계없이 80% 이상 높게 발생하였고 과육갈변도 조기 수확한 과실에서 심하게 발생하였다. 따라서 수확 후 생리적 장해를 회피할 수 있는 적절한 수확시기와 이들 장해를 방지할 수 있는 수확 후 관리 기술의 개발이 필요하다.

석탄층 메탄가스 저류층의 유정생산시험 설계 및 수행절차 수립연구 (Development of Designing and Performing Procedure for Well Test in Coalbed Methane(CBM) Reservoir)

  • 석탄층 메탄가스(coalbed methane; CBM)를 개발하는데 있어서 생산성과 경제성을 좌우하는 절대투과도(absolute permeability)를 산출하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 절대투과도를 측정하는 방법에는 코어분석(core analysis)과 유정생산 시험(well test) 등이 있다. 하지만 코어분석을 통해 도출된 절대투과도는 CBM 저류층을 대표할 수 없기에 일반적으로 유정생산시험을 통해 절대투과도가 산출된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 CBM 저류층에 적용 가능한 유정생산시험을 분류하고 각 시험기법별 특성 및 장 단점을 분석하였다. 이를 기반으로 유정생산시험 설계 및 수행절차를 수립하였으며, 유정생산시험 수행 후 취득된 자료를 통해 절대투과도와 손상지수(skin factor)와 같은 저류층 물성을 도출하기 위한 자료해석 절차를 제시하였다.

항공기용 복합재 샌드위치부품의 수리시 열간노출에 따른 물성변화에 관한 연구 (A Study for the Characteristic Changes under the Repeated Thermal Exposure in the Process of Repairing Aircraft Sandwich Structures)

  • Autoclave curing using the vacuum bagging method is widely used for the manufacture of advanced composite prepreg airframe structures. Due to increasing use of advanced composites, specific techniques have been developed to repair damaged composite structures. In order to repair the damaged part, it is required that the damaged areas be removed, such as skin and/or honeycomb core, by utilizing the proper method and then repairing the area by laying up prepreg (and core) then curing under vacuum using the vacuum bagging materials. It shall be cured either in an oven or autoclave per the original specification requirements. Delamination can be observed in the sound areas during and/or after a couple times exposure to the elevated curing temperature due to the repeated repair condition. This study was conducted for checking the degree of degradation of properties of the cured parts and delamination between skin prepreg and honeycomb core. Specimens with glass honeycomb sandwich construction and glass/epoxy prepreg were prepared. The specimens were cured 1 to 5 times at $260^{circ}F$ in an autoclave and each additionally exposed 50, 100 and 150 hours in the $260^{circ}F$ oven. Each specimen was tested for tensile strength, compressive strength, flatwise tensile strength and interlaminar shear strength. To monitor the characteristics of the resin itself, the cured resin was tested using DMA and DSC. As a results, the decrease of Tg value were observed in the specific specimen which is exposed over 50 hrs at $260^{circ}F$. This means the change or degradative of resin properties is also related to the decrease of flatwise tensile properties. Accordingly, minimal exposure on the curing temperature is recommended for parts in order to prevent the delation and maintain the better condition.
