A model of problem solving instruction for improving practical skill-competence in technical high school (공업계 고등학교에서의 문제해결식 실기수업 모형)

  • The purpose of this study was to development a model of problem solving instruction for improving practical skill-competence in technical high school. For the study, various literature researches were reviewed intensively about problem solving process, laboratory instruction's approaches and learning principals. The problem solving instruction process was composed with identifying problems, generating alternative solutions, investigation and research, choosing a solution, acting on a plan, modeling of problem solving, testing and evaluating, redesigning and improving. The skills schema combines a four domain of skilled activity, that is, cognitive skills, psychomotor skills, reactive skills and interactive skills. The problem solving instruction was composed with five major learning systems-emotional, social, cognitive, physical, and reflective-that can be used extensively as generic lesson plashing. The teacher serves as a coach or guide for student learning. As a facilitator, the teacher challenges, questions, and stimulates the students in their thinking, problem solving and self-directed study. In this process, students represent problem with think aloud, assume responsibility for their learning and move from teacher-centered to student-centered education.

  • In recent years, the rapid development of 3D animation industry promoted the 3D animation skills training progress. In this article, the author analyzed deeply the 3D animation skills training situation based on the training practice and comprehension in R animation company, constructed the 3D animation skills training mode, and made further discussion of improving the performance of training.

  • As Korea's global IT sourcing is sluggish and supply of qualified IT personnel does not meet the demand, IT developers currently do not worry about their job security. The sluggish global sourcing is attributed to the lack of system design and analysis skills as well as lack of communication skills of IT personnel. Most of big Korean IT service firms operate in captive market. This is also attributed to the cause of the sluggish global sourcing. Some IT managers, especially in global IT service firms, concerned about the negative long term effect of the sluggish global sourcing on competitiveness and human infra capability of Korea's IT service industry. Managers in IT service firms expect skill requirement changes in the future when global sourcing becomes active. The skills and knowledge that they wish to retain in-house is business knowledge, system analysis and design knowledge, customer relation management skills, project management skills and industry knowledge. The jobs with the above knowledge usually involve customers.

  • Computers can be used in providing new ways to promote intellectual skills. A computer programming environment can create conditions under which an intellectual mode takes root. Especially problem solving skills can be promoted through programming. To investigate whether and, if so, how computer programming enhances problem solving skills, the nature of programming and problem solving skills are examined. Then, issues on the programming learning context in relation to problem solving are presented.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop performance assessment materials of scientific inquiry skills on 62 scientific activities in elementary science textbook for third and fourth grades. For this study, a total of 318 elementary teachers were sampled and surveys were carried out to examine the status of performance assessment of scientific inquiry skills in school. The classification system of assessment methods by Hart(1994) was also analyzed to create assessment strategy of scientific inquiry skills for elementary school students. Based on the quantitative data analysis, literature study and existing performance assessment materials analysis, performance assessment materials were developed and applied to science classes for third and fourth grades. Teachers and students were interviewed after the classes for asking about merits and improvements and the performance assessment materials were revised.

  • In debureing process. Human experts who have long experenc in performing deburring tasks can manipulate tools efficiently and adapt the tool motions according to the state of the process based on their skills. However, human experts have difficulties in describing linguistically their control schemes and strategies because teey don't aware the detailed process in interpreting wensory information and adapting tool motion. Therefore, it is important to develop a mean of understanding the skills and acquiring the control schemes so that the robot can perform the same skillful motion as the human experts. In this paper, an expert's skill model is developed so that it can be transferred effectively from the expertt to the robot. Skills are represented by a mapping which is generated by using a neural network. Expert's skill shows that the robot is able to associate a correct control strategy with process characteristics which is acquired from a vision image in a similar manner to a human expert's

Job Skill Importance for Systems Analysts From the Viewpoint of IS and Functional Managers (IS 및 기능관리자의 시각에서 본 시스템분석에 필요한 직무능력)

  • Increasingly, systems analysts are expected to have behavioral and administrative skills as well as technical skills. This paper presents the results of a nationwide survey of 739 information systems (IS) managers (220 responses) and other functional managers (178) regarding the importance of various skills needed by systems analysts. The findings indicate that IS managers and three functional area managers differ in their perceptions of the importance of skills that system analysts should possess. These differences suggest that IS managers consider the ability to work with others more important than do functional managers. In contrast, three functional manager groups seem to view technical areas more importantly and thus may have greater expectations for technical performance. Also the results indicate that a positive relationship exists between possession of the identified skills and systems effectiveness.

  • The current study examined the relations among teachers' beliefs, behavioral self-regulation and school readiness of preschoolers. The study sample included 229 preschoolers aged 3 to 5 attending child care centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi area of Korea. Using Structural Equation Modeling, the paths from teachers' beliefs to children's school readiness via the mediation of their behavioral self-regulation were examined. Children's self-regulation was directly assessed using Head-to-Toe Tasks. The results showed that teachers' stronger beliefs in and responsibility for children's self-regulation and interpersonal skills significantly predicted greater behavioral self-regulation among children, which in turn, significantly influenced greater social skills and work-related skills. The contribution of teachers' beliefs and behavioral regulation to social skills and work-related skills was positive and stronger for boys.

Relationship between Peer Support, Coping Strategies and Social Skills (또래지지와 대인관계 갈등 대처방법 및 사회적 기술과의 관계)

  • This study explored the relationship between peer support, strategies used to cope with interpersonal stressors, and social skills among 4th and 5th graders. Instruments were the Social Support Appraisal Scale, the Self-Report Coping Scale, and the Teenage Inventory of Social Skills. Results showed that children used different coping strategies by the level of peer support. Children with more peer support were more active in seeking social support and in solving peer conflict. Children with more problems in peer relationships used more avoidance strategies such as internalization and externalization. Children with a high level of social skills were more likely to use approach strategies in peer conflict while children with a low level of social skills were more likely to employ avoidance strategies. Internalization was the most important strategy in explaining inappropriate peer relationships. For girls, social skill was the most essential variable in their peer relationships.

Educational Strategies for Clinical and Technical Skills Performance (진료와 술기 수행의 교육전략)

  • The aim of this study is to provide the background of developing guides to clinical performance and basic clinical skills and to introduce how to teach and learn using the guide. The students' performance problems presented in an objective clinical skills examination were disease-centered tertiary hospital clinical care, incomplete performance, doing by rote, and an exam-oriented learning attitude. The problems were caused by a tertiary hospital-based educational environment as well as schools and faculty who are unfamiliar with the concept of patient-centered care. The purpose of the guide to clinical performance and basic clinical skills is to overcome these problems and address the causes. The guides show a clinical presentation approach to primary care; clinical care integrated with knowledge, skills, and attitude; a schematic approach; and a patient-centered attitude. To achieve these goals, a strategy to change the educational culture is important. Curricular reform, faculty development, and improving educational facilities and environments are suggested.
