Porous concrete has been used recently for the purpose of decreasing the load on the earth environment. It consists solely of cement, water and coarse aggregate of uni form size. Its fundamental properties are considerably affected by the physical properties of aggregate because the aggregate is the main material for the most part in its mix proportion. Because of this reason, this study carried out an investigation of the influence of the size and type of aggregate on the fundamental properties of porous concrete. It is shown that the fundamental properties of porous concrete was seldom affected by the size of aggregate except for the case of using $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate but varied significantly by the type of aggregate. In particular, the compressive strength of porous concrete using $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate was much higher than that using other aggregate, and its void ratio and coefficient of permeability was lower. Moreover, the capacity to maintain the permeability of porous concrete was found to vary by the size and type of aggregate. Of particular notice was that it decreased greatly when $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate was used. Unlike ordinary concrete, porous concrete exhibited very high dynamic modulus of elasticity at early age and continued to increase but slowly afterwards.
In this study, the influence of coarse aggregate size and type on chloride penetration of concrete was investigated, and the grey correlation analysis was applied to find the key influencing factor. Furthermore, the proposed 6-10-1 artificial neural network (ANN) model was constructed, and performed under the MATLAB program. Training, testing and validation of the model stages were performed using 81 experiment data sets. The results show that the aggregate type has less effect on the concrete permeability, compared with the size effect. For concrete with a lower w/b, the coarse aggregate with a larger particle size should be chose, however, for concrete with a higher w/c, the aggregate with a grading of 5-20 mm is preferred, too large or too small aggregates are adverse to concrete chloride diffusivity. A new idea for the optimum selection of aggregate to prepare concrete with a low penetration is provided. Moreover, the ANN model predicted values are compared with actual test results, and the average relative error of prediction is found to be 5.62%. ANN procedure provides guidelines to select appropriate coarse aggregate for required chloride penetration of concrete and will reduce number of trial and error, save cost and time.
A aggregate size distribution of soils is an important in successful crop production in reclaimed tidelands. The aggregate size distribution for this study were determined of 0.1mm, 0.25mm, 0.5mm, 1.0mm, and 2.0mm by wet sieving method. Agricultural activity, period of reclamation showed significant effects on aggregate size distribution in reclaimed tidelands. Aggregate MWD was greater in SS and KH(above 1.0m) than in YSG, GHD, SMG, and DH(below 0.5mm) reclaimed tidelands and tidelands. The percentage of aggregates less than < 2mm for SMG, GHD, and SM reclaimed tidelands and tidelands were ranged 8.9%, 36.7%, and 38.0%, respectively. The percentage of > 0.1mm aggregates for SMG, GHD, and SM reclaimed tidelands were ranged 9.0%, 26.0%, and 48.9%, respectively. Results indicated that aggregate size distribution of reclaimed tidelands and tidelands under various agricultural systems vary with reclamation period and soil type.
Fracture properties of concrete depend on the mix proportions of the ingredients, specimen shape and size, type of testing method used for the evaluation of fracture properties. Aggregates play a key role for changes in the fracture behaviour of concrete as they constitute about 60-75 % of the total volume of the concrete. The present study deals with the effect of size and quantity of coarse aggregate on the fracture behaviour of steel fibre reinforced self compacting concrete (SFRSCC). Lower coarse aggregate and higher fine aggregate content in SCC results in the stronger interfacial transition zone and a weaker stiffness of concrete compared to vibrated concrete. As the fracture properties depend on the aggregates quantity and size particularly in SCC, three nominal sizes (20 mm, 16 mm and 12.5 mm) and three coarse to fine aggregate proportions (50-50, 45-55, 40-60) were chosen as parameters. Wedge Split Test (WST), a stable test method was adopted to arrive the requisite properties. Specimens without and with guide notch were investigated. The results are indicative of increase in fracture energy with increase in coarse aggregate size and quantity. The splitting force was maximum for specimens with 12.5 mm size which is associated with a brittle failure in the pre-ultimate stage followed by a ductile failure due to the presence of steel fibres in the post-peak stage.

Recently, there were not enough studies regarding the mix adjustment and changes of normal physical properties of slump flow type concrete in domestically. Therefore in this paper, it is aimed securing the fundamental data about flow its mix design method by experimental research. The experiment includes the adjustment of the way for slump flow type concrete by the variation of size of coarse aggregate. In the result, it is advisable raising the ratio of fine aggregate and unit water amount by considering the specific surface when increasing the Gmax size.

Pervious concrete is a tailored-property concrete with high water permeability which allow the passage of water to flow through easily through the existing interconnected large pore structure. This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation into the development of pervious concrete with reduced cement content and recycled concrete aggregate for sustainable permeable pavement construction. High fineness ground granulated blast furnace slag was used to replace up to 70 % cement by weight. The properties of the pervious concrete were evaluated by determining the compressive strength at 7 and 28 days, void content and water permeability under falling head. The compressive strength of pervious concrete increased with a reduction in the maximum aggregate size from 20 to 13 mm. The relationship between 28-day compressive strength and porosity for pervious concrete was adversely affected by the use of recycled concrete aggregate instead of natural aggregate. However, the binder materials type, age, aggregate size and test specimen shape had marginal effect on the strength-porosity relationship. The results also showed that the water permeability of pervious concrete is primarily influenced by the porosity and not affected by the use of recycled concrete aggregate in place of natural aggregate. The empirical inter-relationships developed among porosity, compressive strength and water permeability could be used in the mix design of pervious concrete with either natural or recycled concrete aggregates to meet the specification requirements of compressive strength and water permeability.

It is true that aggregate strength is usually not a factor in normal concrete strength because, the aggregate particle is several times stronger than the matrix and the transition zone in concrete. In other words, with most natural aggregates the strength of the aggregate is hardly utilized because the failure is determined by the other two phases. But aggregate characteristics that are significant to concrete technology include porosity, grading or size distribution, moisture absorption, shape and surface texture, crushing strength, elastic modulus, and the type of deleterious substances present. Therefore, in the area of high strength concrete, concrete is much more influenced by properties of aggregate. This experiment is performed to investigate how kinds of aggregare influence on the workability of high strength concrete. In this experiment, four types of aggregate is used, that is crushed river aggregate, crushed stone, recycled aggregate of low strength and recycled aggregate of high strength. In this study, we scrutinize a fundmental study on the workability of high strength concrete according to kinds of aggregate.

The purpose of this study is to research the basic property of mortar as the grading distribution of copper slag used as fine aggregate and the results are as follows. The compressive strength of mortar as the size of largest diameter of copper slag granule is the highest when the largest size is in 2.5-5mm, and flow of mortar is in proportion to the size. As the largest size of copper slag particle is under 2.5mm(Type 1) the compressive strength and flow is higher as the big granules is more included than small ones. As the largest size of copper slag granule is under 5mm(Type 2) the compressive strength and flow is similar to situation of Type 1, except compressive strength is higher as the percent of the size of granule in $2.5\~5mm$ is under 35$\%$. F.M.(Fine Modulus), compressive strength and flow is relative each other except the batch with 2.5$\∼$5mm granule size of copper slag.
In this study, a series of soil concrete mixtures were tested for the compressive strength according to ratio of aggregate to binder, compaction energy, maximum aggregate size, ratio of silica fume to cement, and ratio of water to binder. The optimum mixing ratio of soil concrete mixtures composed of volcaniclastic, cement, silica fume, concrete polymer and water were analysed. The test results for optimum proportion were as follows ; (1)ratio of aggregate to binder was 4 : 1, (2)compaction energy level was level 2, (3)maximum aggregate size was 13 mm, (4)ratio of silica fume to cement was 10%, (5)ratio of water to binder was 25%. Also, dry type construction techniques were applied using the optimum soil concrete mixture. From the results of this study, the compressive strength of soil concrete and construction techniques were suitable for making eco-friendly soil pavement.

The purpose of this study was to provide a criterion of ballast aggregate size distribution for paved track. The parameters considered in this study were different types of particle size distribution. Then the analysis for analyzing compressive and flexural strength, physical characteristics of aggregate, and the ballast box test were performed. In the test result of the physical characteristic performed by the ballast box test, the bearing capacity was measured lower than the expected value because of its boundary conditions. Among four types of ballast aggregate, type B was selected as one of best candidate distribution because of its bearing capacity, strength, development and economics.
