  • The crystal structure of partially $Ag^+$-exchanged zeolite A, $Ag_{3.2}Na_{8.8}$-A, vacuum dehydrated at $360^{\circ}C$ and then exposed to 0.1 torr of cesium vapor for 12 hours at $250^{\circ}C$ has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm3m (a = 12.262(2)${\AA})\;at\;21(1)^{\circ}C$. The structure was refined to the final error indexes $R_1=0.068\;and\;R_2=0.072$ by using 338 reflections for which $I_o\;>\;3{\sigma}(I_o)$ and the composition of unit cell is $Ag_{3.2}Cs_{8.8}-A.\;3\;Cs^+$ ions lie on the centers of the 8-rings at sites of D4h symmetry. Two crystallographycally different 6-ring $Cs^+$ ions were found: 1.5 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(2) are located inside of sodalite cavity and 4.3 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(3) are located in the large cavity. The fractional occupancies observed at Cs(2) and Cs(3) indicate that the existence of at least three types of unit cells with regard to the 6-ring $Cs^+$ ions. For example, 50% of unit cells may have two $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(2) and 4 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(3). 30% of unit cells may have one Cs+ ion at Cs(2) and 5 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(3). The remaining 20% would have one $Cs^+$ ion at Cs(2) and 4 $Cs^+$ ions at Cs(3). On threefold axes of the unit cell two non-equivalent Ag atom positions are found in the large cavity, each containing 0.64 and 1.92 Ag atoms, respectively. A crystallographic analysis may be interpreted to indicate that 0.64 $(Ag_5)^+$ clusters are present in each large cavity. This cluster may be viewed as a tetrasilver molecule $(Ag_4)^0$(bond length, 2.84${\AA}$) stabilized by the coordination of one $Ag^+$ ion.

  • We have grown D $y_{x}$B $i_{3-x}$F $e_{5}$ $O_{12}$ (x = 0.5,1.0, 1.5,2.0) magnetic garnet thin films upon $Al_2$O3i and GGG substrate using Pechini process. The annealing temperature to get single phase D $y_{x}$B $i_{3-x}$F $e_{5}$ $O_{12}$ garnet is dependent on substrate, i.e. the annealing temperature for GGG substrate il 5$0^{\circ}C$ lower than that for $Al_2$ $O_3$ substrate. The grains of garnet thin film grown on GGG (111) plane align along [111] direction, and in this case the hysteresis curve does not saturate up to H : 5000 Oe. We attribute this phenomenon to rotation magnetization process. The maximum amount of Bi substitution in polycrystalline D $y_{x}$B $i_{3-x}$F $e_{5}$ $O_{12}$ thin film prepared by Pechini process is restricted to 2.0 Bi atom/unit cell, and this value is less than that in single garnet crystall grown by LPE method.own by LPE method.ethod.

  • Result of this study indicate that two criteria must be met in order to have effective macrocycle-mediated transport in these emulsionsystem. First, one must effective extraction of the post transition metals, $Cd^{2+}$. $Pb^{2+}$ and $Hg^{2+}$ , into toluene membrane. The effectiveness of this extraction is greatest if log K values for the metal-macrocycle interaction is large. Second, the ratio of the log K values for the metal ion-receiving phase to the metal ion-macrocycle interaction must be large enough to ensure quantitative stripping of the metal ion at the toluene phase interface. Control of the first step can be obtained by appropriate selection of macrocycle donor atom, substituents, and cavity radius. The second step can be controlled by selecting the proper complexing agent for inclusion in the receiving phase. The order of the transport, when using the several $A^-$ species such as $SCN^-$, $1^-$, $Br^-$ and $Cl^-$ is the order of the changing degree of solvation for $A^-$ and the transport of the metals is also affected by the control of concentration for receiving species because of solubility-differences. In this study, we can seperate each single metal ion from the mixture of $Cd^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$, and $Hg^{2+}$ ions by using the toluene membranes controlled by optimized conditions. Transport of the single metal is also very good, and alkaline and alkaline earth metals as interferences ions did not affect the seperation of the metals in this macrocycle-liquid membrances but transition metal ions were partially affected as interferences for the post transition metal ions.

  • Two crystal structures of dehydrated $Ag_{2.8}ZN_{4.6}-A$ and of its ethylene sorption complex have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The structures were solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at 23(1)$^{\circ}$C. Dehydration of two crystals studied were achieved at 400$^{\circ}$C and $2{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days and one crystal was treated with 250 Torr of ethylene at 25(1)$^{\circ}$C. The structures of dehydrated $Ag_{2.8}ZN_{4.6}-A$ (a = 12.137(2) ${\AA}$ and of its ethylene sorption complex (a = 12.106(2)${\AA}$) were refined to final error indices, R(weighted) = 0.044 with 237 reflections and R(weighted) = 0.050 with 301 reflections, respectively, for which I > 3${sigma}$(I). 2.8 $Ag^+$ ions are recessed 0.922(2) ${\AA}$ from (111) plane of three 6-ring oxygens into the large cavity where each forms a lateral ${\pi}$ complex with an ethylene molecule. These $Ag^+$ ions are in 2.240(5)${\AA}$ from three framework oxide ions and 2.290(5) ${\AA}$ from each carbon atom of an ethylene molecule. The $Zn^{2+}$ ions occupy two different threefold axis positions of the unit cell. 2.8 $Zn^{2+}$ ions are recessed 0.408(2) ${\AA}$ from (111) plane of the 6-ring oxygens and each $Zn^{2+}$ ion forms a $\pi$ complex with an $C_2H_4$ molecule. The distances between $Zn^{2+}$ ions and carbon atom of ethylene molecule, Zn(2)-C = 2.78(4) ${\AA}$ are long. This indicates that this bond is relatively weak.

  • The samples were synthesized by using a solid state reaction. The X-ray diffraction pattern for $Ti_{0.96}Co_{0.02}Fe_{0.02}O_2$ showed a pure rutile phase with tetragonal structure, Mixtures of the proper proportions of the elements sealed in evacuated quartz ampoule were heated at $870{\sim}930^{\circ}C$ for one day and then slowly cooled down to room temperature at a rate of $10^{\circ}C$/h. In order to obtain single phase material, it was necessary to grind the sample after the first firing and to press the powders into pellets before annealing them for a second time in evacuated and sealed quartz ampoule. Magnetic properties have been investigated using the vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Room temperature magnetic hysteresis (M-H) curve showed an obvious ferromagnetic behavior and the magnetic moment per Fe atom under the applied of 0.8 T was estimated to be about $1.5\;{\mu}_B$/CoFe. But the magnetic moment per Fe atom under the applied of 0.8 T was estimated to be about $0.02\;{\mu}_B$/CoFe without Ti-getter. Size of particles is about $1\;{\mu}m$ using the transmission electron microscope (TEM). The ingredients of sample are distributed irregular in particles. Only Fe get shown on the surface of particles.

  • Two crystal structures of dehydrated $Ag^+$ and $Rb^+$ exchanged zeolite A, stoichiometries of $Ag_{9}Rb_{3}-A$ (a = 12.278(2)${\AA}$) and $Ag_{10}Rb_{2}-A$ (a = 12.286(2)${\AA}$) per unit cell, have been determined by single crystal x-ray diffraction techniques. Their structures were solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at 21(1)$^{\circ}$C. The crystals of $Ag_{10}Rb_{2}-A$ and $Ag_{10}Rb_{2}-A$ were prepared by flow methods using exchanged solution in which mole ratios of AgNO$_3$ and RbNO$_3$ were 1:5 and 1:50, respectively, with the total concentration of 0.05 M. The structures of the dehydrated $Ag_{9}Rb_{3}-A$ and the $Ag_{10}Rb_{2}-A$ were refined to the final error indices, $R_1$ = 0.064 and $R_2$ = 0.060 with 291 reflections, and $R_1$ = 0.063 and $R_2$ = 0.080 with 416 reflections respectively, for which I >3${\sigma}$(I). In both structures, one reduced silver atom per unit cell was found inside the sodalite cavity. It may be present as a hexasilver cluster in 1/6 of the sodalite units or as an isolated Ag atom coordinated to 4 $Ag^+$ ions in each sodalite unit to give $(Ag_5)^{4+}$, symmetry 4 mm. In the structure of dehydrated $Ag_{9}Rb_{3}-A$, 8 $Ag^+$ ions lie on the threefold axis and each is nearly at the center of the 8-rings at the sites of $D_{4h}$ symmetry. In the structure of dehydrated $Ag_{10}Rb_{2}-A$, two crystallographically different eight 6-ring $Ag^+$ ions were found; $7Ag^+$ ions in the (111) planes of their O(3) framework oxygens and one $Ag^+$ ion inside of sodalite cavity. Two crystallographically different 8-ring cations were also found; two $Rb^+$ ions at the centers of the 8-oxygen rings and one $Ag^+$ ion into the large cavity. Both structures indicate that $Rb^+$ ions prefer to occupy the 8-ring sites, while $Ag^+$ ions prefer to occupy the 6-ring sites.

  • Two crystal structures of the vacuum dehydrated $Ag^+$-exchanged zeolite X have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Fd3 at 21(1)$^{\circ}C$ (a=24.922(1)${\AA}$ and a=24.901(1)${\AA}$, respectively). Each crystal was ion exchanged in flowing streams of aqueous $AgNO_3$ for three days. The first crystal was dehydrated at 300$^{\circ}C$ and $2{\times}10^{-6$torr for two days. The second crystal was similarly dehydrated at 350$^{\circ}C$. Their structures were refined to the final error indices, $R_1=0.095\;and\;R_2=0.092$ with 227 reflections, and $R_1=0.096\;and\;R_2=0.087$ with 334 reflections, respectively, for which I > 3${\sigma}$(I). In the first crystal, Ag species are found at five different crystallographic sites: sixteen $Ag^+$ ions fill the site I, the center of the double 6-ring, thirty-two Ag0 atoms fill the I' site in the sodalite cavities opposite double six-rings, seventeen $Ag^+$ ions lie at the 32-fold site II' inside the sodalite cavity at the single six-oxygen ring in the supercage, fifteen Ag+ ions lie at the 32-fold site II, in the supercage, and the remaining twelve $Ag^+$ ions lie at site III' in the supercage at a little off two-fold axes. In the second crystal, all Ag species are located similarly as crystal 1; 16 at site I, 28 at site I', 16 at site II, 16 at site II', 6 at site III and 6 at site III'. Total 88 silver species were found per unit cell. The remaining four Ag atoms were migrated out of the zeolite framework to form small silver crystallites on the surface of the zeolite single crystal. In the first structure, the numbers of Ag atoms per unit cell are approximately 32.0 and these may form tetrahedral $Ag_4$ clusters at the centers of the sodalite cavities. The probable four-atom cluster is stabilized by coordination to two $Ag^+$ ions. The Ag-Ag distance in the cluster, ca. 3.05 ${\AA}$, is a little longer than 2.89 ${\AA}$, Ag-Ag distance in silver metal. At least two six-ring $Ag^+$ ions on sodalite cavity (site II') must necessarily approach this cluster and this cluster may be viewed as a distorted octahedral silver cluster, (Ag6)2+.

  • Abstract The effect of the film stress on the thermal stability of TiSi, films under the dielectric overcoat was investigated. TiS$i_2$ films with the sheet resistance of 1.2 ohm/sq. were produced by a solid-state reaction between sputtered Ti film and single-crystalline Si in an RTA (rapid thermal anneal) machine. Dielectric overcoats such as the USG (Undoped Silicate Glass, Si$O_2$) film and the PE-SiN(S$i_3$$N_4$) film were deposited by AP-CVD and PE-CVD, respectively, on the TiS$i_2$ film. The thermal stability of the TiSi, film was evaluated by changes in the sheet resistance, film stress and microstructure after furnace anneals at 90$0^{\circ}C$. Agglomeration of the TiSi2 film high temperatures results in the increase of sheet resistance and the decrease of tensile stress of TiSi, film. The stress level of the TiSi" PE-SiN and ~SG films at 90$0^{\circ}C$C was 1.3${\times}{10^{9}}$, 1.25 ${\times}{10^{10}}$, 2.26 ${\times}{10^{10}}$ dyne/c$m^2$ in tensile, respectively. Dielectric films deposited by CVD on TiSi, was effective on preventing agglomeration of TiSi,. The PE-SiN film mproved the thermal stability of TiSi, more effectively than the AP-CVD USG film. It is considered that agglomeration of the TiS$i_2$ film under the stress of dielectric overcoat at high temperature can be caused by a diffusional flow of atom called Nabarro-Herring microcreep.reep.

  • This work investigated the characteristics of a packed-bed plasma reactor system and the performances of the plasma reactors connected in series or in parallel for the decomposition of ethylene. Before the discharge ignition, the effective capacitance of the ${\gamma}$-alumina packed-bed plasma reactor was larger than that of the reactor without any packing, but after the ignition the effective capacitance was similar to each other, regardless of the packing. The energy of electrons created by plasma depends mainly on the electric field intensity, and was not significantly affected by the gas composition in the range of 0~20% (v/v) oxygen (nitrogen : 80~100% (v/v)). Among the various reactive species generated by plasma, ground-state atomic oxygen and ozone are understood to be primarily involved in oxidation reactions, and as the electric field intensity increases, the amount of ground-state atomic oxygen relatively decreases while that of nitrogen atom increases. Even though there are many parameters affecting the performance of the plasma reactor such as a voltage, discharge power, gas flow rate and residence time, all parameters can be integrated into a single parameter, namely, specific input energy (SIE). It was experimentally confirmed that the performances of the plasma reactors connected in series or in parallel could be treated as a function of SIE alone, which simplifies the scale-up design procedure. Besides, the ethylene decomposition results can be predicted by the calculation using the rate constant expressed as a function of SIE.

  • 8-Fluorociprofloxacin(8-FCP) is an investigational quinolone derivative that is substituted with fluorine at the C-8 position of ciprofloxacin(CP). It was found that the in vitro activity of 8-FCP against Gram(+) bacteria was more potent that of CP, but the opposite against Gram(-) bacteria was true. However, 8-FCP showed better in vivo efficacy than CP against representative Gram(-) organisms, E. coli and K pneumoniae. In an attempt to seek for factors causing this discrepancy in the antibacterial activities, a comparative pharmacokinetic study of 8-FCP and CP was conducted in mice and rats treated either intravenously or orally at a single dose of 30 mg/kg. The pharmacokinetic parameters in mice were as follows; the mean peak serum concentrations(C$_{max}$) following i.v. and oral doses were 12.4 and 5.3 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml for 8-FCP, and 9.5 and 2.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml for CP, respectively. The terminal half-life(t$_{1/2\beta}$) was 72.9 min for 8-FCP, and 98.2 min for CP, and the oral bioavailability(F) was 89.9% for 8-FCP, and 50.5% for CP. In rats, the mean ($\pm$SD) $C_{max}$ after i.v. administration were 11.6$\pm$1.6 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml for 8-FCP, and 10.2$\pm$1.3 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml for CP, whereas oral administration produced $C_{max}$ of 5.9$\pm$1.8 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml for 8-FCP and 1.1$\pm$0.9 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml for CP, respectively. The t$_{1/2\beta}$ was 67.9$\pm$8.4 min for 8-FCP, and 76.4$\pm$7.2 min for CP. The F was 88.6$\pm$6.3% for 8-FCP, and 40.7$\pm$6.5% for CP. Marked differences were observed between the two quinolones in the $C_{max}$ and the area under the concentration-time curve obtained after oral administration in mice and rats. The extent of 8-FCP absorption in both mice and rats was approximately 2-fold higher than that of CP, suggesting that the fluorine atom attached to C-8 plays an important role in facilitating oral absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.
