  • Thallium-201 (201Tl) is a medical radioisotope which emits gamma rays when it decays and used in myocardial perfusion scans in single-photon emission tomography due to its similar properties to potassium. Currently, the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences is the only institution producing 201Tl in Korea, and optimization of 201Tl production research is necessary to meet supply compared to domestic demand. To this end, technical analysis of plating target production and chemical separation methods essential for 201Tl production research is conducted. It deals with the process of generating and separating 201Tl radioisotope and target production, It can be generated through a nuclear reaction such as natHg(p,xn)201Tl, 201Hg(p,n)201Tl, natPb(p,xn)201Bi → 201Pb → 201Tl, 205Tl(p,5n)201Pb → 201Tl, and considering impure nuclide generated simultaneously with the use of proton beam energy of 35 MeV or less, it is intended to be produced using the 203Tl(p,3n)201Pb→201Tl nuclear reaction. In particular, the chemical separation of Tl is a very important element, and the chemical separation methods that can separate it is broadly divided into four types, including solid phase extraction, liquid-liquid, electrochemical, and ion exchange membrane separation. Some chemical separations require additional separation steps, such as methods using selective adsorption. Therefore, this technical report describes four chemical separation methods and seeks to separate high-purity 201Tl using a method without additional separation steps

Feasibility of normal tissue dose reduction in radiotherapy using low strength magnetic field

  • Purpose: Toxicity of mucosa is one of the major concerns of radiotherapy (RT), when a target tumor is located near a mucosal lined organ. Energy of photon RT is transferred primarily by secondary electrons. If these secondary electrons could be removed in an internal cavity of mucosal lined organ, the mucosa will be spared without compromising the target tumor dose. The purpose of this study was to present a RT dose reduction in near target inner-surface (NTIS) of internal cavity, using Lorentz force of magnetic field. Materials and Methods: Tissue equivalent phantoms, composed with a cylinder shaped internal cavity, and adjacent a target tumor part, were developed. The phantoms were irradiated using 6 MV photon beam, with or without 0.3 T of perpendicular magnetic field. Two experimental models were developed: single beam model (SBM) to analyze central axis dose distributions and multiple beam model (MBM) to simulate a clinical case of prostate cancer with rectum. RT dose of NTIS of internal cavity and target tumor area (TTA) were measured. Results: With magnetic field applied, bending effect of dose distribution was visualized. The depth dose distribution of SBM showed 28.1% dose reduction of NTIS and little difference in dose of TTA with magnetic field. In MBM, cross-sectional dose of NTIS was reduced by 33.1% with magnetic field, while TTA dose were the same, irrespective of magnetic field. Conclusion: RT dose of mucosal lined organ, located near treatment target, could be modulated by perpendicular magnetic field.

  • PCM(Pulse Code Modulation) 파형은 펄스에 특정 code를 실어 보내는 형태로 추적에 적합한 특성을 가진다. 특히 단일 펄스의 송수신만으로 표적의 탐지 및 추적이 가능하므로, 여러 임무를 수행해야 하는 다기능 레이다(MFR: Multi-Function Radar)에서는 시간 측면에서 효율적이다. 하지만 PCM 파형은 모호성 함수(ambiguity function) 의 특성으로 인해 표적을 탐지하고, 거리와 속도 정보를 얻기 위해서 도플러 필터 뱅크(Doppler filter bank)가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 계산량과 하드웨어 측면에서 한계가 있는 도플러 필터 뱅크를 사용하는 대신, ML(Maximum Likelihood) 기반의 도플러 추정 방법을 고안하였다. 제안한 알고리즘은 폐형(closed form) 수식의 suboptimal 방법으로 적은 계산량으로 정확한 도플러 주파수를 추정할 수 있고, 이를 기반으로 표적의 탐지에 적용할 수 있다.

자산기반 무기할당 문제의 선형 근사 모형 (A Linear Approximation Model for an Asset-based Weapon Target Assignment Problem)

  • A missile defense system is composed of radars detecting incoming missiles aiming at defense assets, command control units making the decisions on weapon target assignment, and artillery batteries firing of defensive weapons to the incoming missiles. Although, the technology behind the development of radars and weapons is very important, effective assignment of the weapons against missile threats is much more crucial. When incoming missile targets toward valuable assets in the defense area are detected, the asset-based weapon target assignment model addresses the issue of weapon assignment to these missiles so as to maximize the total value of surviving assets threatened by them. In this paper, we present a model for an asset-based weapon assignment problem with shoot-look-shoot engagement policy and fixed set-up time between each anti-missile launch from each defense unit. Then, we show detailed linear approximation process for nonlinear portions of the model and propose final linear approximation model. After that, the proposed model is applied to several ballistic missile defense scenarios. In each defense scenario, the number of incoming missiles, the speed and the position of each missile, the number of defense artillery battery, the number of anti-missile in each artillery battery, single shot kill probability of each weapon to each target, value of assets, the air defense coverage are given. After running lpSolveAPI package of R language with the given data in each scenario in a personal computer, we summarize its weapon target assignment results specified with launch order time for each artillery battery. We also show computer processing time to get the result for each scenario.

무기체계 3차원 건물표적에 대한 간이 파괴효과분석 방법론 연구 (A Study on Simple Methodology of Distruction Effects Analysis 3 Dimensional Building Target's by Weapon Systems)

  • 무기체계를 보다 효과적으로 사용하기 위해 다양한 표적 유형별로 무기효과 평가방법이 발전되었다. 본 연구에서는 3차원 건물표적에 대한 공격시 파괴효과를 평가할 수 있는 가장 효과적인 방법론을 찾고자 하였다. 가능한 건물표적에 대한 파괴효과 평가 방법에는 기대손실파괴확률(EFD)과 단발명중파괴확률(SSPD)이 있다. 여기에 건물표적의 크기, 무기체계 원형공산오차(CEP), 건물평균유효파괴면적(MAE_bldg), 건물표적과 유도무기 조우조건인 입사각을 입력변수로 하여 무기체계의 파괴효과를 계산하였다. 무기체계 특성 CEP와 MAE_bldg의 변화에 따른 EFD와 SSPD 결과를 비교하고 입사각의 변화량과 표적건물 높이에 따른 파괴효과를 비교함으로써 3차원 건물표적에 대한 적합성을 분석하였다.

네오 싱글(NEO SINGLE) 여성을 위한 브랜드 기획 및 상품 개발 (Brand Planning and Product Development for NEO-SINGLE Women)

  • Noting that there is an increasing trend of the so-called 'neo-single life style' among women these days, this research aims to make a product development for these neo-single women in this era of families of a single member by analyzing their concepts and characteristics. We payed a particular attention to the data from such sources as newspapers, magazines or the articles in the Internet. The essence of our research lies in the analysis of target market, in the suggestions in the brand planning and product development and in the designs of fashion and interior products for them. The result of this research is as follows. First, it turns out that these neo-single women enjoy a kind of multi-mixing code lifestyle rather than showing a preference for a particular brand. For this reason, we have decided to pursue a multi-concept brand fonn as a right direction for brand planning for them. Second, as for a philosophy behind the brands, we suggest a concept of 'small utopia' for neo-single women and express such as new aristocracy, happiness and pleasure. Third, we adopt 'YOU' as the name of the brand as it reflects their various life styles and characteristics. Fourth, as for the product development of F/W in 2007, we have decided on 'Minimal Natural' as it mixes up the concepts of the controlled beauty of sophistication and multi-functional elements and 'Modern Primitive' as it expresses the ethnic elements on modern images having craft factors and modern images. We have performed concrete tasks in creating images, coloring, making fabrics for each theme. Fifth, we have chosen and suggested other products that are suitable for these neo-single women who seek for multi-functional but simple kinds after surveying a wide range of products in magazines or in the Internet.

Single Carrier Spectroscopy of Bisolitons on Si(001) Surfaces

  • Switching an elementary excitation by injecting a single carrier would offer the exciting opportunity for the ultra-high data storage technologies. However, there has been no methodology available to investigate the interaction of low energy discrete carriers with nano-structures. In order to map out the spatial dependency of such single carrier level interactions, we developed a pulse-and-probe algorithm, combining with low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. The new tool, which we call single carrier spectroscopy, allows us to track the interaction with the target macrostructure with tunneling carriers on a single carrier basis. Using this tool, we demonstrate that it is possible not only to locally write and erase individual bi-solitons, reliably and reversibly, but also to track of creation yields of single and multiple bi-solitons. Bi-solitons are pairs of solitons that are elementary out-of-phase excitations on anti-ferromagnetically ordered pseudo-spin system of Si dimers on Si(001)-c(42) surfaces. We found that at low energy tunneling the single bisoliton creation mechanism is not correlated with the number of carriers tunneling, but with the production of a potential hole under the tip. An electric field at the surface determines the density of the local charge density under the tip, and band-bending. However a rapid, dynamic change of a field produces a potential hole that can be filled by energetic carriers, and the amount of energy released during filling process is responsible for the creation of bi-solitons. Our model based on the field-induced local hole gives excellent explanation for bi-soliton yield behaviors. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy data supports the existence of such a potential hole. The mechanism also explains the site-dependency of bi-soliton yields, which is highest at the trough, not on the dimer rows. Our study demonstrates that we can manipulate not just single atoms and molecules, but also single pseudo-spin excitations as well.

영상 피드백을 이용한 단일 영상에서의 적응적 피부색 검출 (Adaptive Skin Color Segmentation in a Single Image using Image Feedback)

  • 피부색 검출 기법은 안면 정보를 이용한 체질 진단 및 건강 진단, 인간과 로봇과의 상호작용, 영상 검색 시스템 등 다양한 응용분야에서 사람의 얼굴과 손의 검출을 위해 많이 사용되어 왔다. 비디오 영상의 경우 조명이나 환경 변화에 강인한 피부색 영역의 추적을 위해 매 프레임마다 대상 영역의 피부색 모델을 업데이트 하는 것이 일반적이나, 단일 영상에서 피부색 영역을 검출하거나 비디오 영상의 첫 프레임에서 피부색 영역을 검출할 때에는, 많은 연구들이 하나의 고정된 피부색 모델을 이용하기 때문에 입력 영상의 특징에 따라 낮은 검출율이나 높은 긍정 오류율이 발생하는 경우가 많다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 피부색 검출 결과를 피드백 받아 피드백 받은 정보를 바탕으로 피부색 검출 조건을 수정하는 과정을 반복함으로써 다양한 환경 조건들을 가지는 단일 영상에 대해 효과적으로 피부색을 검출할 수 있는 방법을 제안한다.

단일수분류 및 수분류군에 의한 열전달(I)-단일수분류- (Heat Transfer from Single and Arrays of Impinging Water Jets(I)-Single Water Jet-)

  • The heat transfer characteristics of free surface water jet impinging normally against a flat uniform heat flux surface were investigated. This deals with the effect of three nozzle configurations (Cone type, Reverse cone type, Vertical circular type) on the local and the average heat transfer. Heat transfer measurements were made for water jet issuing from a nozzle of which exit diameter 8 mm. The experimental conditions investigated are Reynolds number range of 27000 ~ 70000( $V_{O}$=3 ~ 8 m/s), nozzle-to-target plate distances H/D=2 ~ 10, and radial distance from the stagnation point r/D ~ = 0 ~ 7.42. For all jet velocities of H/D=2, the local Nusselt number decreased monotonically with increasing radial distance. However, for H/D from 4 to 10, and for the jet velocity $V_{O}$.geq.7 m/s for Cone type nozzle and $V_{O}$.geq.6 m/s for the other type nozzles, the Nusselt number distributions exhibited secondary peaks at r/D=3 ~ 3.5. For Reverse cone type nozzle and Vertical circular nozzle, the maximum stagnation point heat transfer and the maximum average heat transfer occurs at H/D=8. But for the Cone type nozzle, the maximum stagnation and average heat transfer occurs at H/D=10, 4, respectively. From the optimum nozzle-to-target plate distance, the stagnation and the average heat transfer reveal the following ranking: Reverse cone type nozzle, Vertical circular type nozzle, Cone type nozzle.ozzle.

Radiosurgical Considerations in the Treatment of Large Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformations

  • Objective : In order to establish the role of Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKS) in large intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), we analyzed clinical characteristics, radiological features, and radiosurgical outcomes. Methods : Between March 1992 and March 2005, 28 of 33 patients with large AVMs (> $10\;cm^3$ in nidus-volume) who were treated with GKS underwent single session radiosurgery (RS), and the other 5 patients underwent staged volumetric RS. Retrospectively collected data were available in 23 cases. We analyzed treatment outcomes in each subdivided groups and according to the AVM sizes. We compared the estimated volume, defined as primarily estimated nidus volume using MR images, with real target volume after excluding draining veins and feeding arteries embedded into the nidus. Results : Regarding those patients who underwent single session RS, 44.4% (8/18) had complete obliteration; regarding staged volumetric RS, the obliteration rate was 40% (2/5). The complete obliteration rate was 60% (6/10) in the smaller nidus group ($10-15\;cm^3$ size), and 25% (2/8) in the larger nidus group (over $15\;cm^3$ size). One case of cerebral edema and two cases (8.7%) of hemorrhage were seen during the latent period. The mean real target volume for 18 single sessions of RS was $17.1\;cm^3$ ($10.1-38.4\;cm^3$), in contrast with the mean estimated volume of $20.9\;cm^3$ ($12.0-45.0\;cm^3$). Conclusion : The radiosurgical treatment outcomes of large AVMs are generally poor. However, we presume that the recent development in planning software and imaging devices aid more accurate measurement of the nidus volume, therefore improving the treatment outcome.
