Efficient Multi-scalable Network for Single Image Super Resolution

  • In computer vision, single-image super resolution has been an area of research for a significant period. Traditional techniques involve interpolation-based methods such as Nearest-neighbor, Bilinear, and Bicubic for image restoration. Although implementations of convolutional neural networks have provided outstanding results in recent years, efficiency and single model multi-scalability have been its challenges. Furthermore, previous works haven't placed enough emphasis on real-number scalability. Interpolation-based techniques, however, have no limit in terms of scalability as they are able to upscale images to any desired size. In this paper, we propose a convolutional neural network possessing the advantages of the interpolation-based techniques, which is also efficient, deeming it suitable in practical implementations. It consists of convolutional layers applied on the low-resolution space, post-up-sampling along the end hidden layers, and additional layers on high-resolution space. Up-sampling is applied on a multiple channeled feature map via bicubic interpolation using a single model. Experiments on architectural structure, layer reduction, and real-number scale training are executed with results proving efficient amongst multi-scale learning (including scale multi-path-learning) based models.

Single-Dose Intramuscular Toxicity Study of SU-Eohyeol Pharmacopuncture in Rats

  • Objectives: This toxicological study was performed to assess for potential toxicity and to determine the approximate lethal dose of SU-Eohyeol pharmacopuncture (SUEP) following a single intramuscular injection of SUEP into male and female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Methods: The groups in our experiment consisted of an experimental group treated with SUEP at a dose of 1.0 mL/animal and a control group injected with a normal saline solution, and five male and female rats were placed in each group. Each animal was administered a single intramuscular injection. We monitored all rats for clinical signs and body weight changes for 14 days after administration. At the end of the observation period, the rats were euthanized and autopsied, and localized tolerance examinations were conducted at the site of administration of the test substance. Results: There were no deaths in either sex in the SUEP-treated group. There was no significant difference between the SUEP-treated group and the control group in the clinical signs and weight changes among the rats. In addition, no significant SUEP-related changes were observed on autopsy findings or local tolerance examinations at the injection site by histopathological examination. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the approximate lethal dose of a single intramuscular administration of SUEP in female and male rats under the conditions of this study is greater than 1.0 mL/animal. To determine the safety of the use of SUEP in Korean medical clinical practice, additional toxicity studies will be needed.

Simulation Study of Discrete Event Systems using Fast Approximation Method of Single Run and Optimization Method of Multiple Run (단일 실행의 빠른 근사해 기법과 반복 실행의 최적화 기법을 이용한 이산형 시스템의 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • This paper deals with a discrete simulation optimization method for designing a complex probabilistic discrete event simulation. The developed algorithm uses the configuration algorithm that can change decision variables and the stopping algorithm that can end simulation in order to satisfy the given objective value during single run. It tries to estimate an auto-regressive model for evaluating correctly the objective function obtained by a small amount of output data. We apply the proposed algorithm to M/M/s model, (s, S) inventory model, and known-function problem. The proposed algorithm can't always guarantee the optimal solution but the method gives an approximate feasible solution in a relatively short time period. We, therefore, show the proposed algorithm can be used as an initial feasible solution of existing optimization methods that need multiple simulation run to search an optimal solution.

(O-C) Variations of Eclipsing Binaries in Multiple Stellar Systems

  • In There are inventoried 308 eclipsing systems among 1,158 multiple systems listed in Tokovinin (1997, 2007)'s multiple system catalog. Their characteristics of (O-C) variations for 83 systems among the 308 systems, which have timings of minimum lights enough to see the trends of their period changes, were investigated with the Kreiner, Kim and Nha (2001)'s recent database of times of minimum lights of eclipsing binaries. It is found that the (O-C) variations for 39 systems, corresponding to 47% of the investigated 83 systems, does not show any anticipated light-time effects (hereafter LITE) at all. Among the rest 44 systems 7 systems with apsidal motion also have a single LITE. Only 6 systems have a single LITE or double LITEs. The rest 31 systems show a secular variation superposed on a single or double or more LITEs or very complicated variation patterns. Some possible explanations for their diverse differentiation of variation are discussed.

  • The test results on the deterioration process of concrete under single and combined action of chloride penetration have been obtained. Within the test period of 15 weeks, it is seen that the internally penetrated chloride ion contents are slightly less in the combined action of NaCI and $Na_2SO_4$ than the single action of NaCI. Also the theoretical prediction of chloride penetration based on measured diffusion coefficient agress well with the test data of single deterioration process but disagress with that of combined process. Therefore it should be needed that improved chloride diffusion model for the combined deterioration process.

  • H-field EMI measurements have been performed for the single-ended, the differential, and the pseudo-differential signaling on a 11" FR4 microstrip line. The pseudo-differential signaling reduces EMI by more than 10 dB compared to the single-ended signaling if the delay mismatch is lower than 5% of a period for a 3 GHz clock signal. Empirical H-field equations for both differential and single-ended signaling showed fair agreements with measurements.

  • A total of 69 ovaries were collected from 345 camels slaughtered in Maiduguri abattoir, North-Eastern part of Nigeria, to study the influence of season on ovary weight and corpus luteum count in the dromedary (single humped) camel (Camelus dromedaries). Right ovary was significantly heavier (p<0.01) and had more follicular fluid than the left. Although corpus luteum count increased gradually throughout the study period, no camel had 3 active corpora lutea and only 53 out of the total number had two. Ovarian activity seem to be higher in the cold dry harmattan season, November/December, than during the warmer post rainy season, September/October. These periods can be exploited by farmers, especially peasants who rely heavily on natural mating, to obtain greater conception rates and reduce the chance of failure during mating.

  • In this study, the design of the single-chamber pacemaker tester is presented. It is important to test the functions of the pacemaker before it is implanted into the patient. A pacemaker tester, that is presented in this study, is able to examine pacemaker parameters such as sensing threshold and refractory period. We need to make artificial intracardiac electrogram in order to test the pacemaker parameters. We know from the previous practical examples that a triangle pulse is similar to the physiologic intracardiac electrogram. The tester generates the simplified electrograms and PC software examines the output pulses of the pacemaker which is VVIR mode in closed-loop simulation.

Single-mode Condition and Dispersion of Terahertz Photonic Crystal Fiber

  • We have investigated properties of a plastic photonic crystal fiber guiding terahertz radiations, THz photonic crystal fiber. The single-mode condition and dispersion of a plastic triangular THz photonic crystal fiber are investigated by using the plane wave expansion method and the beam propagation method. The THz photonic crystal fiber can perform as a single-mode fiber below 2.5 THz when the ratio of diameter (d) and period (${\Lambda}$) of air holes is less than 0.475. The THz photonic crystal fiber with ${\Lambda}=500{\mu}m$ and $d/{\Lambda}=0.4$ shows almost zero flattened dispersion behavior, $-0.03{\pm}0.02 ps/THz{\cdot}cm$, in the THz frequency range from 0.8 to 2.0 THz.

  • Invertible transformations over n-bit words are essential ingredients in many cryptographic constructions. When n is large (e.g., n = 64) such invertible transformations are usually represented as a composition of simpler operations such as linear functions, S-P networks, Feistel structures and T-functions. Among them we study T-functions which are probably invertible and are very useful in stream ciphers. In this paper we study some conditions on a T-function h(x) such that f(x) = x + h(x) has a single cycle on ${\mathbb{Z}}_{2^n}$.
