  • An antibody containing a genetically engineered lipid group at the N-termunus and a hexahistidinyl tag at the C-terminus (Lpp-scF-His6) was immobilized in an oriented manner on the surface of liposome. Liposomes, consisting of antibody and phosphatidyl-choline, have been prepared and imaged by AFM. For AFM visualization, the resulting liposomes were bound on the surface of mica by two different mechanisms. The histidine tags present in the antibody molecules of the immonuliposome were anchored to the NiCl2 treated mica surface. Alternatively, the immunoliposomes were immunochemically bound on antigen-coated mica surface. Both approaches yielded liposomes which were clearly imaged without damage by AFM in ambient condition.

  • We have investigated aluminum cluster deposition using a classical molecular dynamics simulations. We studied the variations of the cluster momentum and the impulse force during collisions, and found that the close-packed cluster impact has some of properties of the single particle collision and the linear atomic chain collisions. We also simulated the series of energetic cluster deposition with energy Per atom. When energy Per atom in cluster has some eV rather than very low, the intermixing occurred easily in growth film and we can obtain a good film without subsequent annealing process.

  • Background: Intracellular antibody specific to hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx) might be useful for studying the role of HBx in hepatocellular carcinogenesis and HBV replication. Methods: With variable region genes for H7 monoclonal anti-HBx Ab, we constructed a vector for bacterial expression of single chain Ab (scFv) and a vector for eukaryotic cell expression of it. The expression of H7 scFv and its binding activity against HBx was examined by immunoblotting and immunofluorescence microscopy. Results: H7 scFv expressed in bacterial cells retained reactivity to HBx. We demonstrated its intracytoplasmic expression in CosM6 eukaryotic cells. Conclusion: This is the first study showing the expression of intracellular anti-HBx Ab in eukaryotic cells. H7 scFv may be a good tool to study the function of HBx in HBV infection.

  • Equinechorionic gonadotropin(eCG) is a member of the glycoprotein hormone family which includes FSH, hCG, TSH. These hormone family is characterized by a heterodimeric structure composed a common α-subunit noncovalently linked to a hormone specific β-subunit. To determine a and β-subunits can be synthesized as a single polypeptide chain (tethered-eCG) and also display biological activity, the tethered-molecule by fusing the carboxyl terminus of the eCG β-subunit to the amino terminus of the α-subunit was constructed and transfected into chinese hamster ovary (CHO-K1) cells. • As an alternative method to produce low cost reagents for immunodiagnosis and protect the plants from viral disease, a gene encoding a single chain variable fragment(scFv) recombinant antibody targeted to the coat protein of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) was expressed in Nacotiana tabacum. The source of the scFv recombinant antibody gene was from spleen tissue of an immunized mouse. The gene was initially cloned into the pCANTAB5E phagemid and expressed in E. coli. In the following study, the antibody gene was subcloned into the plant expression vector, pCAMBIA-1301 and introduced into tobacco leaf tissue via Agrobacterium tumefacients mediated transformation. After transformation, 56 out of 58 plants were shown to carry the desired anti-CMV scFv gene by PCR analysis. Overall, only 12.5% of the 56 putative transgenic plants were found to express the antibody to a detectable level.

  • Recently, Ertogral et al.[2] suggested two models considering the transportation cost based on single-vendor single-buyer integrated production-inventory problem. Although their problem-solving algorithm guarantees solutions obtained are optimal, a limitation is revealed that its performance can be inefficient due to complete enumeration search in a certain range. In this paper, a more efficient algorithm in finding optimal solutions is suggested for the same problem suggested by Ertogral et at.[2]. Numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • This research develops a framework for resolving time and worker conflicts in the Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) method, expressed in the form of a Max-Plus Linear (MPL) system. Our previous work proposed a method for resolving time conflicts. However, in practical cases, both time and worker conflicts may occur. Hence, we propose a method for resolving both time and worker conflicts for a single project. We first consider how to detect a resource conflict. Then, we define an adjacency matrix to resolve the detected conflicts. Using the proposed method, we confirm that the resource conflict can be resolved through a numerical example.

  • The emission color stability of poly(fluorene) derivatives upon thermal annealing or passage of current in an electroluminescent device is affected by the structure of the main chain polymer unit and particularly by the polymer chain end substituents. Proper attention to these features leads to colorfast blue emission in both photo- and electoluminescence. Furthermore, the spectral emission characteristics can be tuned by the incorporation of various comonomers. Preliminary single layer device studies validate the potential utility of poly(fluorene) homo and copolymers for OLED applications.

  • This paper presents the idea of staggered voting for the efficient TMR implementation of shift register chains for improving the yield of Poly-Si TFT-LCD driving circuits. The paper discusses the characteristic features of staggered voting and performs a quantitative evaluation of its effectiveness. Staggered voting allows us to improve the reliability of a single-voter TMR chain significantly when the probability of a voter failure is not negligible.
