  • Since the solar energy resource is the main input for sizing any solar photovoltaic system and solar thermal power system, it is essential to utilize the solar radiation data as a application and development of solar energy system increase. It will be necessary to understand and evaluate the insolation data. The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has begun collecting horizontal global insolation data since May, 1982 and direct normal insolation data since December 1992 at 16 different locations in Korea. Because of a poor reliability of existing data, KIER's new data will be extensively used by solar energy system users as well as by research institutes. From the results, the yearly averaged horizontal global insolation was turned out 3.60kWh/$m^2$/day and a significant difference of horizontal global insolation is observed between 1982~1990 and 1991~1999, 2000~2008 through 16 different cities in Korea.

We did an analysis of 81 cases of the court's rulings related to Infringement of right to likeness by the Press from 1990 to 2014. As a result, it shows that the first court's ruling of portrait rights violations by the press was made in 1990. The results showed that there were the increasing number of disputing cases over Infringement of right to likeness against Broadcasting media in the 2000s compared to monthly magazines in the 1990s, which were regarded as gonzo journalism. Since the 2000s, 71% of lawsuits regarding Infringement of right to likeness has been against the Broadcasting Media due to increasing the influence of the broadcasting and possibility of Infringement of right to likeness by visual images. Especially, the number of lawsuits on infringement of rights to likeness has increased rapidly by the Broadcasting Media. Only 23 cases(28.4%) of total 81 cases were decided in favor of the press. the press shows the low success in disputing the rights of likeness. this study shows the korean courts put more weight on the right to likeness and the breaking a balance between freedom of the press and right of person's character. However, 52.9% of the cases was decided in favor of The press against the plaintiff of public figures compared to 22% against the public. It can be difficult for public figures to win lawsuit against the press causing the Infringement of right to likeness. Judging from this fact, it seemed that the court recognized media watchdog for public figures.

  • Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs refer to medicines that are generally safe when used according to the product label. We aimed to assess and reflect upon changes in perception of health and health-related demands by decades in Korea according to the consumption and sales trends of OTC drugs. This study was conducted by literature search on the production and sale rankings of OTC drug market in Korea. Changes in the OTC drug market were analyzed and organized by decades to evaluate changes in drug demands and the influence of national and societal factors. There was a specific trend in the most popular drugs by decades. In the 1950s, drugs of top necessity were antibiotics and helminthics. In the 1960s, the pharmaceutical industry quickly grew and invigorators, such as Bacchus$^{(R)}$, Alps$^{(R)}$, Aronamin$^{(R)}$, were top manufactured drugs. Popularity of these invigorating drinks and vitamin products continued until the 1990s. In 1990s, sales of topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Ketotop Plaster$^{(R)}$, Trast Patch$^{(R)}$), and in 2000s, gum disease medicine (Insadol$^{(R)}$) and liver and intestine supplement (Ursa$^{(R)}$) were prominent. However, after the separation of prescribing and dispensing in 2000, the sales of OTC drugs decreased dramatically from 58.7% of the total market share in 1990s to 39.6% in 2000 and this trend has continued. In 2012, thirteen OTC drugs were allowed to be sold in convenience stores, and as the sales of health functional foods have been expanding beyond pharmacies, sales of invigorators and nutritional supplements in pharmacies have continued to decrease. As government's drug expenditure will continue to grow, reclassification of OTC drugs based on established safety information and deliberate team efforts on continued development of OTC drugs to meet the health demands of Koreans are required by the healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical industries, and the government.

  • The purpose of this study was to empirically test whether occupational welfare in Korea would have grown since the mid 1990s. The result of this study showed that after the IMF fiscal crisis, the policies of labor flexibility in labor market initiated flexible forms of employer-provided benefits, including cafeteria plan or profit-based funds, which finally led to a decline of occupational welfare rather than a growth. Existing studies haven't agreed on trade-off of statutory and voluntary social provisions since the crisis of welfare state. However, based on the case of Korea, this study suggested archetypal development of welfare system experiencing a decline of occupational welfare paralleled with a growth of state welfare provision.

  • The movements to improve rural housing environments have been promoted since the beginning of Sae-Mauel project in 1970s. Since then policies to develop village units and to improve housing units and public facilities have been increased. These trends reflect rural inhabitants' strong desire to enjoy a quality of life. The project of Munhwa-Mauel aims to improve rural housing environment conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry since the early 1990s. As of 1998, among 105 districts under the project. 56 districts have been parceled out and sold. The number of Munhwa-Mauels is expected to increase under Government's policy to construct 772 Munhwa-Mauels by the year 2004, which may have a large influences on private sectors. So far several studies have been conducted on the Munhwa-Mauel project. According to them Munhwa-Mauel has merits such that it modernizes the rural villages, and decreases the number of people moving out. while it causes conflict between the residents and the newcomers. Munhwa-Mauel also provides uniform housing layouts and unsuitable environments for the rural area, and lacks locality and facilities to promote income. As, however, the results of previous studies have not been verified through systematic researches, it is necessary to search a verified approach through the evaluation on housing environment in various aspects in order to provide planning guidelines for rural villages.

  • This study analyses North and South Koreas' coverage as framed by the main Polish press titles from 1989 to 2019. The main method applied is a computational textual analysis of press articles based on frequency, correlations and co-occurrences. The purpose is to map the topics of the examined articles in the context of relations between Poland and the two Koreas in various areas, predominantly political and economic relations. Emphasis is placed on the impact the carmaker Daewoo's investment in Poland in the mid-1990s had on bilateral Polish-South Korean relations. First, the authors argue that Korean issues in the Polish press, mainly in the second half of the 1990s, particularly concerned economic affairs. Secondly, they argue that after Poland's accession to the European Union in 2004, the country's interest in the two Koreas decreased, and since that time has remained at a more or less constant level. Finally, the authors discuss the outcome of the research in the context of the main developments in Polish-Korean relations, taking into consideration the results of a Polish public opinion survey presenting the international linkages between national public opinion and foreign policy.

  • Korean clothes is traditional folk costume native to Korea, Which is in Korea clothes. The past Korean costume was developed in the native costume, together influenced by chinese costume. But in the late Yi dynasty the contact with western countries brought about a turning point in Korean costume history, with rapid growth of economy since Korean war in the 1950's, the magnification of industrial structure, the development of productive technique, transformation of consumption pattern and the development of communication have been increased concerns for the western costume. In 1953 the introduction of nylon which was imported from Japanese brought about a fuming point in clothing habits. In 1967 the development of the fiber industry got a firm stand in ready-made clothes. Consequently our traditional Korean clothes was regarded as nonfunctional, nonproductive and it was pushed out of daily life little by little and it was deprived of the function of ordinary costume by the influence of western costume. But in these days the Korean clothes appears as the desire of pursuing traditional style in addition to mordern style of Korean clothes.

  • Since the first sewage treatment plant had been in operation in 1976, the Korean water industry was in the logarithmic growing stage corresponded with the country's rapid economic expansion up to late 1990's. Unfortunately, however, the current industry status seems to require not only new paradigm for water environment but the development of new growth engine, since there are various warning signals for stalling growth from the field engineers to policy makers. Because of sharing of the awareness, the Korean government recently launched an ambitious development policy for water industry. This paper describes the new paradigm-shift in water environment in view point of the water as renewable resources. Based on the new paradigm, it has been suggested the prerequisite conditions to meet for the development of a new Korean water industry.

  • The international oil majors have been reducing the size of their own oil tanker fleet since early 1980s. Like international oil majors, the Korean refineries are becoming more dependent on tanker chartering rather than tanker ownership for their oil transportation since the 1990s. They also prefer spot charter to time charter and this kind of trend has continued up to now. Consequently, this paper attempted to find the factors influencing changes in tanker fleet composition. To attain the object of the paper, an empirical study is adopted using the ten decision-making factors derived from preceeding studies. The findings are that MARPOL and OPA 90, and transportation costs are the most important factors influencing an oil tanker fleet composition.
