  • Intracerebral hemorrhage[ICH] following aneurysmal rupture is found in 34% of the previous literature. However, hypertensive ICH concurrent with subarachnoid hemorrhage[SAH] due to an aneurysm rupture is very unusual with only four cases, to our knowledge, having been previously reported in the literature. We describe a patient who presented with aneurysmal SAH concurrent with hypertensive ICH and review of the literature.

  • This paper presents the processing of nonlinear features associated with a damage event by quadratic time-frequency distributions for damage identification in a frame structure. A time-frequency distribution is a function which distributes the total energy of a signal at a particular time and frequency point. As the occurrence of damage often gives rise to non-stationary, nonlinear structural behavior, simultaneous representation of the dynamic response in the time-frequency plane offers valuable insight for damage detection. The applicability of the bilinear time-frequency distributions of the Cohen class is examined for the damage assessment of a frame structure from the simulated acceleration data. It is shown that the changes in instantaneous energy of the dynamic response could be a good damage indicator. Presence and location of damage can be identified using Choi-Williams distribution when damping is ignored. However, in the presence of damping the Page distribution is more effective and offers better readability for structural damage detection.

  • Heavy metal contamination has attracted considerable attention during recent decades due to the potential risk brought about for human beings and the environment. Several adsorbent materials are utilized for the purification of contaminated water resources among which chitosan is considered as an appropriate alternative. Copper is a heavy metal contaminants found in several industrial wastewaters and its adsorption on porous and macroporous chitosan membranes is investigated in this study. Membranes are prepared by phase inversion and particulate leaching method and their morphology is characterized using SEM analysis. Batch adsorption experiments are performed and it is found that copper adsorption on macroporous chitosan membrane is higher than porous membrane. The iso-steric heat of adsorption was determined by analyzing the variations of temperature to investigate its effect on adsorption characteristics of macroporous chitosan membranes. Furthermore, desorption experiments were studied using NaCl and EDTA as eluants. The mechanism of copper adsorption was also investigated using XPS spectroscopy which confirms simultaneous occurrence of chelation and electrostatic adsorption mechanisms.

  • Hodgkin's disease presenting with spinal cord compression owing to extradural and bone involvement is extremely unusual. A 48-year-old man presented with progressive lower extremity weakness resulting from spinal cord compression attributable to an epidural mass in the thoracic vertebrae. The patient underwent decompressive surgery, and was then treated with chemotherapy for Langerhans cell histiocytosis. However, the disease progressed, and we performed second decompressive surgery with stabilization. Subsequent histopathological investigations revealed Hodgkin's lymphoma of the bone. Here, we describe an unusual case of spinal Hodgkin's lymphoma and Langerhans cell histiocytosis to draw attention to this combination as a possible diagnosis in patients with mixed inflammatory cell infiltrate lesions in the spine.

  • Topics calculated using LDA topic modeling have to be labeled separately. When labeling a topic, we look at the words that represent the topic, and label the topic. Therefore, it is important to first make a good set of words that represent the topic. This paper proposes a method of calculating a set of words representing a topic using TextRank, which extracts the keywords of a document. The proposed method uses Relevance to select words related to the topic with discrimination. It extracts topic keywords using the TextRank algorithm and connects keywords with a high frequency of simultaneous occurrence to express the topic with a higher coverage.

  • Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue type (extranodal MZL) is a distinct subgroup of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Pulmonary extranodal MZL is a rare entity and accounts for less than 0.5% of primary pulmonary malignancies. Only a few cases of simultaneous occurrence of lung cancer and pulmonary extranodal MZL have been reported. A 60-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with a pulmonary nodule. She was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma by percutaneous needle biopsy. The protrusions into the left main bronchus were found by accident while performing bronchoscopy during lung cancer evaluation. The bronchial lesions were diagnosed as extranodal MZL. Although the patient underwent surgical resection for the lung adenocarcinoma, the pulmonary extranodal MZL was left untreated; it was monitored during follow-up visits. To our knowledge, this is the first report of synchronous lung adenocarcinoma and primary extranodal MZL of the main bronchus.

  • The trigger point injection technique is widely used in pain clinics for the treatment of acute and chronic pain. Yet it has a variety of complications such asvasovagal syncope, total spinal anesthesia, paralysis, root block, pneumothorax, needle breakage, skin infection, and hematoma formation. Among them, the simultaneous occurrence of psoas and epidural abscesses is extremely rare. We report here on a patient who was diagnosed with epidural and psoas abscesses after paravertebral trigger point injection.

  • Human activity pattern has been changed as the contemporary urban society changes. Diverse activities repeat regular patterns as time passes. Diagram is a simple drawing which aims to organize and unify various information. The elements of the social behaviour could be spatialized by means of diagram applications. By using diagrams, architects understand contemporary urban society and form new space conditions. Time-based activity patterns consists of activity pattern in a restricted space and in urban structure for space use. Activity patterns for different time zones are explained by two types of diagrams, space occupation and flexibility of space, By the characteristic of space system structred by these diagrams, activities and programs are rearranged and variety of space is allowed through flexibility. Also, programs are mixed to apply to simultaneous occurrence of ever-changing human activities.

  • According to the modernization of mathematics education, new abstract concepts such as the concept of sets are introduced in many fields of it. The purpose of this thesis is to adopt the concept of sets to 'probability' which is included in the curriculum of high school matematics education. The considerations of the preceding chapter III, and their obvious generalizations to more complicated experiments, justify the conclusion that probability theory consists of the study of sets. An event is a set, its opposite event is the complementary set; mutually exclusive events are disjoint sets, and an event consisting of the simultaneous occurrence of two other events is a sets obtained by intersecting two other sets it is clear how this glossary, translating physical terminology into set theoretic terminology, may be continued. Furthermore, the important theorems of probability; Additional theorem, multiplication theorem, their applications and so on, are proved by the technical operations of sets. Thinking of the mathematics education introduced by the concept of sets is very important in future.

  • This paper presents an evaluation system to determine the completeness of a space map obtained by a visual SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) algorithm. The proposed system consists of three parts. First, the proposed system detects the occurrence of loop closing to confirm that users acquired the information from all directions. Thereafter, the acquired map is divided with regular intervals and is verified whether each area has enough map points to successfully estimate users' position. Finally, to check the effectiveness of each map point, the system checks whether the map points are identifiable even at the location where there is a large distance difference from the acquisition position. Experimental results show that space maps whose completeness is proven by the proposed system has higher stability and accuracy in terms of position estimation than other maps that are not proven.
