  • Infrared heating has been traditionally used in industrial applications for processes such as dehydration of food industrial. This heating method involves the application of radiation in the wavelength range of 5~50 micrometers. In this work, simultaneous heat balance equations were developed to simulate the infrared radiation heating of red peppers. The equations assume that moisture diffuses to the outer boundaries of the material in liquid form and evaporation occurs at the surface of the red peppers. Energy for moisture evaporation is supplied by the infrared radiant energy. The equations were validated with experimental data on surface temperature and average moisture content of red peppers. Average deviations of predicted surface red peppers temperature and average red peppers moisture from experimental data were 323~353K and 50~80%, respectively. The spectral extinction coefficients in the wavelength range $1.5<{\lambda}<27$ micrometer at 293K for Red Peppers were determined from results of reflection measurements and the four flux radiative heat transfer calculation. The radiation extinction coefficients were obtained from effective drying factor the temperature 373K.

  • The purpose of this study is developing the computer program for hydraulic design sprinkler systems have performed the means for the general use of network analysis method. The computer program is based on the theoretical concepts of the related Hazen-Williams equations, a modified Bernoulli equations, and the Hardy Cross method of pipe network analysis. Looped piping calculations are solved by using either the Hardy Cross method or the other iteration methods. While the other methods are solved using simultaneous equations, the Hardy Cross method is concerned with one loop at a time using reiterative process. Due to its simplicity the Hardy Cross method will be the primary method described in this thesis. The purpose of this study is to develope hydraulic calculation program by using algorithm for network analysis method. The development of computer program for the hydraulic design of sprinkler systems will perform the means in the performance-based sprinkler system design.

  • This paper deals with in-plane free vibrations of the horseshoe circular arch. Simultaneous ordinary differential equations governing free vibration of the arch are derived with respect to the radial and tangential deformations. Particularly, differential equations are obtained under the arc length coordinate rather than the angular one in order to extend the horseshoe arch whose subtended angle is greater than ${\pi}$ radians. The differential equations are numerically solved for calculating the natural frequencies accompanying with the corresponding mode shapes. In parametric studies, effects of the rotatory inertia, slenderness ratio and circumferential arc length ratio on frequency parameters are extensively discussed.

  • Leak of liquid has been categorized conventionally into instantaneous release and continuous release. In this study, the spread of cryogenic liquid due to limited period of release is investigated for the first time to establish a new classification method with recognizing the irrationality of the conventional one. Such physical phenomena are governed by simultaneous equations concerning volume, radius and height of pool of the cryogenic liquid, and major parameters are evaporation rate per unit area, time of release, and spill quantity. The simultaneous governing equations is decoupled to get efficiently perturbation solutions. As the results, for the same spill quantity, in view of release model, combined release model that consists of continuous and consecutive instantaneous model is necessary with small time of release, while continuous model is solely required with large time of release. Also, the combined model is necessary for small spill quantity with the same time of release. These two regimes of release are clearly distinguished using the perturbation solution to provide a clear basis for the new classification of release models.

  • A mathematical model is proposed that can depict the kinetics of simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) using steam-exploded wood(SEW) with a glucose- and cellobiose-fermenting yeast strain. Brettanomyces custersii. An expression to describe the reduction of the relative digestibility during the hydrolysis of the SEW is introduced in the hydrolysis model. The fermentation model also takes two new factors into account, that is, the effects of the inhibitory compounds present in the SEW hydrolysates on the microorganism and the fermenting ability of Brettanomyces custersii, which can use both glucose and cellobiose as carbon sources. The model equations were used to simulate the hydrolysis of the SEW, the fermentation of the SEW hydrolysates, and a batch SSF, and the results were compared with the experimental data. The model was found to be capable of representing ethanol production over a range of substrate concentrations. Accordingly, the limiting factors in ethanol production by SSF under the high concentration of the SEW were identified as the effect of inhibitory compounds present in the SEW, the enzyme deactivation, and a limitation in the digestibility based on the physical condition of the substrate.

  • The interaction between tetraethylammonium chloride (TEACl) with ICl and tetraethylammonium iodide (TEAI) and aza-15-crown-5 (A15C5) with $I_2$ and ICl have been examined spectrophotometrically in acetonitrile solution. The results of TEACl-ICl indicate the formation of $ICl_2$ - through equilibrium reaction. In the case of TEAI-$I_2$ and A15C5-$I_2$, the equilibrium formation of $I_3$ - is confirmed. The interaction of TEAI-ICl begins with the simultaneous production of $I_2$ and IC$I_2$ - (at TEAI/ICl < 0.5) as well as continues with the simultaneous consumption of $I_2$ and formation of I$I_3$ - (at TEAI/ICl > 0.5). Similar behavior is also observed for A15C5-ICl system. However, the changes are seen at A15C5/ICl mole ratios less and more than 0.66. Several equations have been suggested for the formation of detected species. The formation constants of various reactions were evaluated from the computer fitting of the absorbance-mole ratio data. IR spectra of A15C5 and 1:1 A15C5:ICl or A15C5:$I_2$ complexes are compared and the effect of complexation on absorption bands is discussed.

  • Playing an important role in developing the economy and overall developments of the country, commercial banks have to be aware of their crucial presence in order to perform well and contribute significantly. At the same time, as a place to receive deposits, banks are required to be in safe situations to avoid bankruptcy or deal with financial crises. This research seeks to identify the determinants of Capital Adequacy Ratio and Banks' performance as well as the relationship between these two dependent variables. The paper uses 128 observations of 16 Vietnamese commercial banks during the period from 2010 to 2017, with two simultaneous dependent variables CAR and ROE, and independent variables including Return on Assets, Tobin Q, Credit growth, GDP growth, Equity to Deposits, Loans to Deposits, Bank size, Cost to Income, Liquidity risk, Provision for Loan loss ratio, Non-performing loans and Inflation. The results reveal that Capital Adequacy Ratio and Banks' Performance have statistically significant relationship and Credit growth, GDP growth, Equity-to-Deposit ratio and Cost-to-Income ratio all have significant effects on two dependent variables. The findings of this study suggest that commercial banks should control the respective elements in order to maintain adequate level of capital and also create effective performance.

  • It is increasingly interested in investigating the relationships and the dynamic characteristics of variations among high class corporate values. This study formulates a statistical model of simultaneous equation system to examine the relationships among variations of stock returns for each class of corporate governance structure and to analyze the dynamic patterns of their long-run adjustment processes. Changes in stock returns for each class of corporate governance by an exogenous shock are found to have common structural features of slow adjustments to the long-run equilibriums.

  • A simple nonlinear programming(NLP) formulation for the optimal topology problem of structures is developed and examined. The NLP formulation is general, and can handle arbitrary objective functions and arbitrary stress, displacement constraints under multiple loading conditions. The formulation is based on simultaneous analysis and design approach to avoid stiffness matrix singularity resulting from zero sizing variables. By embedding the equilibrium equations as equality constraints in the nonlinear programming problem, we avoid constructing and factoring a system stiffness matrix, and hence avoid its singularity. The examples demonstrate that the formulation is effective for finding an optimal solution, and shown to be robust under a variety of constraints.
