  • High-fidelity RANS simulations are presented for a ducted marine propulsor, including verification & validation (V&V) using available experimental fluid dynamics (EFD) data. CFDSHIP-IOWA is used with $\textsc{k}-\omega$ turbulence model and extensions for relative rotating coordinate system and Chimera overset grids. The mesh interpolation code PEGASUS is used for the exchange of the flow information between the overset grids. Intervals V&V for thrust, torque, and profile averaged radial velocity just downstream of rotor tip are reasonable in comparison with previous results. Flow pattern displays interaction and merging of tip-leakage and trailing edge vortices. In interaction region, multiple peaks and vorticity are smaller, whereas in merging region, better agreement with EFD. Tip-leakage vortex core position, size, circulation, and cavitation patterns for $\sigma=5$ also show a good agreement with EFD, although vortex core size is larger and circulation in interaction region is smaller.

  • Recently the use of ferritic stainless steels for automotive exhaust system has been increased dramatically. A detailed knowledge of material behavior of ferritic stainless steel is important for successful manufacturing of exhaust systems. To achieve this goal, numerical study of square cup deep drawing for ferritic stainless steel sheet, type 409L was conducted with Yld2000-24. Uniaxial tensile test and hydraulic bulge test were performed to characterize plastic material behavior. Finite element simulation of square cup deep drawing was performed successfully.

  • In this research, it has been developed the tongs mechanism by a friction force for curbstone working. This tongs apparatus was farmed to grip and rotate the rectangular curbstone. Specification of this tongs apparatus has been determined by considering a loading weight and reversal load preventing reversal of 1.5 ton excavator. And, specification of the linear actuator has been determined with considering mechanical structure and the operation power demanded by the grip pad friction of tongs apparatus. The safety of the part has been examined from the 3D numerical simulation of the tongs apparatus. The operation system has been arranged to grip and rotate curbstone by on-off switching. The prototype has been established to carry out experiment after installing 1.5 ton excavator.

  • Runoff simulation tests to investigate the flow mechanics of nonsuomerged overland flow in a natural grass intervening land system were condueted and a modified kinematic wave overland runoff model developed by Choi et al. (1993) was verified. Nonhomogeneity and heterogeneity of the soil, slope, local topography, infiltration, grass density, and the density and activity of the soil microhes and wild animals were the major factors affecting the flow. Streamlines were disturbed by grass stems and small concentrated flows due to the disturbed streamlines and local topography were observed a lot. Relatively larger concentrated flows were observed where bundles of grass were dominant than where individual grasses were growing. Predicted hydrographs were agreed verv well with measured hydrographs. Since the modified model considers grass density in computing flow depth and hydraulic radius, it can be better than existing kinematic wave model if it were used to route nonpoint source pollutant attenuation processes in many grass intervening land systems.

  • Optimal neuro-control algorithm is extended to the control of a multi-degree-of-freedom structure. An active mass driver(AMD) system on the top roof used as a controller. The control signals are made by a multi-layer perceptron(MLP) which is trained by minimizing a sub-optimal performance index. The performance index is a function of both the output responses and the control signals. Structure having nonlinear hysteretic behavior is also trained and controlled by using proposed control algorithm. Bothe the time delay effect and the dynamics of hydraulic actuator are included in the simulation. Example shows that optimal neuro-control algorithm can be applicable to the multi-degree of freedom structures.

  • Pressurization test is usually required in aircraft full-scale static test. There are several test conditions including pressurization of cockpit, fuselage fuel tank, air inlet duct for T-50 full-scale static test. In this paper, the test conditions, equipment, piping analysis for the pressurization test are introduced. Tank simulation test is performed to verify the validity of piping analysis and to find good tuning parameters for the pressurization channel in the servo controller. Several test setup for pressurization of T-50 test is introduced. Test article volume is filled by form, $60%{\sim}80%$ volume is reduced for the T-50 full-scale static test. Pressurization system is connected to servo controller which also controls hydraulic actuator. Load and pressure control is synchronized by using the same servo controller during T-50 test. Typical control result for pressurization test condition is shown. Pressurization tests of T-50 full-scale static test was completed successfully.

  • Backlash is common in mechanical and hydraulic systems and severely limits overall system performance. In this paper, the development of an adaptive control scheme for systems with unknown backlash is presented. An adaptive backlash inverse based controller is applied to a plant that has an unknown backlash in its input. The harmful effects of backlash are presented. Compensation for backlash by adding a discrete adaptive backlash inverse structure and the gradient-type adaptive algorithm, which provides the estimated backlash parameters, are also presented. The supposed adaptive backlash control algorithms are applied to an aircraft with unknown backlash in the actuator of control surfaces. Simulation results show that the proposed compensation scheme improves the tracking performance of systems with backlash.

  • A disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller is proposed in this paper. The lumped disturbance to the vehicle yaw rate dynamics caused by the uncertain factors such as uncertain tire forces and parameters is estimated by the disturbance observer, which is utilized by the robust controller to stabilize the lateral dynamics of the vehicle. The dynamics of the hydraulic actuator is incorporated in the vehicle stability controller design using the model reduction technique. Modular control design methodology is adopted to effectively deal with the mismatched uncertainty. Simulation results indicate that the proposed disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller can achieve the desired reference tracking performance as well as sufficient level of robustness.

  • During the last few decades, excavation automation has been investigated to protect the operator from the hazardous working environment and to relieve the cost of the skilled operator. Therefore, a number of modelling and controller design methods of the hydraulic excavator are proposed in many literatures to realize the excavation automation. In this article, a geometric approach far the multi-body system modeling is adopted to develop the excavator mechanism model that contains 4 kinematic loops and 12 links. Considering a simple soil mechanism model with a number of uncertain soil parameters, an adaptive trajectory tracking control strategy based on the developed excavator model is proposed. The improved performance of the designed controller over the simple PID controller is validated via the simulation study.

  • The road simulators have become common tools within the automotive industry for evaluation of vehicle and vehicle system durability performance. These simulators need appropriate input signal generation algorithms to realize the actual driving conditions due to non-linear vehicle and test rig behaviour. Although somewhat unconventional from a control standpoint, the iteration approach has proven to be a very effective method for control of complex, multiple degree-of-freedom systems where the tracking parameter is known a priori. In this paper, the road profile replication algorithm is verified by applying Belgian road to the developed road simulator. The simulation and experimental results are included to evaluate the performance of this simulator. This road simulator provides considerable savings in cost, development time, and testing risk during developing automotive components.
