임목재적(林木材積) 산정(算定)을 위(爲)한 Simple Random Sampling과 Two-stage P.P.S. Sampling 방법(方法)의 비교(比較) (Comparison of Simple Random Sampling and Two-stage P.P.S. Sampling Methods for Timber Volume Estimation)

  • Simple random sampling과 P.P.S. sampling의 효율을 비교하기 위하여 오스트리아 Salzburg 부근의 침엽수 장령림 임분에서 임목조사를 실시하였다. 축적 1:10,000의 흑백 적외선 사진을 판독하여, 조사 임지를 제지, 유령림, 너도 밤나무 장령림, 침엽수 장령림으로 구분하고, 침엽수 장령림 내에서 random sampling에 의한 99개의 표본점과 P.P.S. sampling에 의한 75개의 표본점을 흉고 단면적 제수 4인 Relascope에 의하여 야외 조사한 자료를 비교한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) random sampling에 의한 임분 재적의 추정치는 $422.0m^3/ha$이었고, P.P.S. sampling에 의해서는 $433.5m^3/ha$이었으나 이들간의 통계적 유의성은 없었다. 2) 5 %의 허용 오차내에서는 P.P.S. sampling에 의하여는 170점, random sampling에 의하여는 237점이 필요하였다. 3) P.P.S. sampling은 random sampling에 비하여 야외 조사 시간을 17% 감소시킬 수 있었다.

Comparison of Latin Hypercube Sampling and Simple Random Sampling Applied to Neural Network Modeling of HfO2 Thin Film Fabrication

  • In this paper, two sampling methods which are Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) and simple random sampling were. compared to improve the modeling speed of neural network model. Sampling method was used to generate initial weights and bias set. Electrical characteristic data for $HfO_2$ thin film was used as modeling data. 10 initial parameter sets which are initial weights and bias sets were generated using LHS and simple random sampling, respectively. Modeling was performed with generated initial parameters and measured epoch number. The other network parameters were fixed. The iterative 20 minimum epoch numbers for LHS and simple random sampling were analyzed by nonparametric method because of their nonnormality.

  • This study described the application of constructivism and information technology for teaching simple random sampling. We considered more student's participation, more interaction, and more flow in their introductory statistics class. In addition, we presented a web-based teaching and learning system for simple random sampling to demonstrate.

The systematic sampling for inferring the survey indices of Korean groundfish stocks

  • The Korean bottom trawl survey has been deployed on a regular basis for about the last decade as part of groundfish stock assessments. The regularity indicates that they sample groundfish once per grid cell whose sides are half of one latitude and that of one longitude, respectively, and whose inside is furthermore divided into nine nested grids. Unless they have a special reason (e.g., running into a rocky bottom), their sample location is at the center grid of the nine nested grids. Given data collected by the survey, we intended to show how to appropriately estimate not only the survey index of a fish stock but also its uncertainty. For the regularity reason, we applied the systematic sampling theory for the above purposes and compared its results with a reference, which was based on the simple random sampling. When using the survey data about 11 fish stocks, collected by the spring and fall surveys in 2014, the survey indices of those stocks estimated under the systematic sampling were overall more precise than those under the simple random sampling. In estimates of the survey indices in number, the standard errors of those estimates under the systematic sampling were reduced from those under the simple random sampling by 0.23~27.44%, while in estimates of the survey indices in weight, they decreased by 0.04~31.97%. In bias of the estimates, the systematic sampling was the same as the simple random sampling. Our paper is first in formally showing how to apply the systematic sampling theory to the actual data collected by the Korean bottom trawl surveys.

  • The stress-strength models have been intensively investigated in the literature in regards of estimating the reliability ${\theta}$ = P(X > Y) using parametric and nonparametric approaches under different sampling schemes when X and Y are independent random variables. In this paper, we consider the problem of estimating ${\theta}$ when (X, Y) are dependent random variables with a bivariate underlying distribution. The empirical and kernel estimates of ${\theta}$ = P(X > Y), based on bivariate ranked set sampling (BVRSS) are considered, when (X, Y) are paired dependent continuous random variables. The estimators obtained are compared to their counterpart, bivariate simple random sampling (BVSRS), via the bias and mean square error (MSE). We demonstrate that the suggested estimators based on BVRSS are more efficient than those based on BVSRS. A simulation study is conducted to gain insight into the performance of the proposed estimators. A real data example is provided to illustrate the process.

  • In this paper, we consider the estimation of the correlation coefficient in the bivariate normal distribution, based on a sample obtained using a modification of the moving extreme ranked set sampling technique (MERSS) that was introduced by Al-Saleh and Al-Hadhrami (2003a). The modification involves using a concomitant random variable. Nonparametric-type methods as well as the maximum likelihood estimation are considered under different settings. The obtained estimators are compared to their counterparts that are obtained based simple random sampling (SRS). It appears that the suggested estimators are more efficient

임분재적(林分材積) 추정(推定)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Study on the Estimate of Stand Volume in the Pitch Pine Forest)

  • 본시험(本試驗)은 리기다소나무 인공단순림(인공단순림)에 있어서 임분재적추정(林分材積推定)을 단급법(單級法) 단순임의추출법(單純任意抽出法) 복합비추정법(複合比推定法) 분리비추정법(分離比推定法) 표준목비추정법(標準木比推定法)등의 방법(方法)으로 조사비교(調査比較)한 것이다. 비추정(比推定)에 의하여 얻은 결과(結果)는 표(表) 8과 같아 실제임분재적(實際林分材積)이 추정임분재적내(推定林分材積內)에 포함(包含)되어 있는 것은 단순임의추출법(單純任意抽出法)과 복합비추정법(複合比推定法)뿐이다. 단순임의추출법(單純任意抽出法)이 좋은 결과(結果)를 갖어온 것은 임분(林分)의 구성상태(構成狀態)가 단순동령림(單純同齡林)이기 때문이라 추측(推測)된다. 추정시(推定時) 측정(測定)이나 계산(計算)이 간편한것은 (1) 단급법(單級法) (2) 단순임의추출법(單純任意抽出法) (3) 표준목비추정법(標準木比推定法) (4) 분리비추정법(分離比推定法) (5) 복합비추정법(複合比推定法)의 순(順)으로 되어 정도면(精度面)이나 실제임분(實際林分) 재적(材積) 측정시(測定時) 시간경비(時間經費) 노력(勞力)을 비교적(比較的) 적게 들이고 측정(測定)할수 있는 방법(方法)은 적어도 인공일제림(人工一齊林)에서는 단순임의추출법(單純任意抽出法)이 가장 좋은 결과(結果)를 가져왔다고 본다.

  • In stratified random sampling a simple random sample must be taken in each stratum to reduce the maximum gain in precision given the minimum cost. The purpose of this paper is to deal with the propertics of the estimates and variances and obtain the economic design of stratified random sampling through the optimum allocation of the sample sizes. In addition, the between stratum variation and the within stratum variation is stratifying the population are described.

  • 본 논문은 계통표집법의 장점 중 거의 주목되지 못하고 있는 한 가지 장점을 다룬다. 특정한 확률표집법에 의해 표본이 추출되었을 때 추출된 표본이 모집단을 잘 반영하고 있는지의 여부는 매우 중요한 문제이다. 따라서 표집법을 평가할 때 모집단을 잘 대표하지 못하는 바람직하지 않은 표본이 추출될 가능성을 살피는 것이 필요하다. 모의실험을 통해 모집단이 순서모집단에 가까울수록 계통표집법은 무작위표집법에 비해 바람직하지 못한 표본을 추출할 확률을 적게 하는 표집법이라는 사실을 보인다.
