  • In previous paper, the determination procedure of fission products mainly consists of many steps which are usually derived from classical analysis schemes. In the present paper a simple and more rapid method of the determination of fission products by means of a smaller amount of reagent than that correspond to the stoichiometric ratio of element to be determined is investigated. The yield of Ba-140 in fission products is determined by this method.

  • A simple and rapid technique for the separation and preconcentration of lead in water and biological samples has been devised. Preconcentrationis based on the depositionof analyte onto a column packed with dithizone immobilized on sodium dodecyl sulfate coated alumina at pH $\geq$ 3. The trapped lead is eluted with 5 mL of 4 M nitric acid and determined by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. A sample of 1 L, results in a preconcentration factor of 200 and the precision at 20${\mu}g$ $L^{-1}$ is 1.3%(n=8). The procedure is applied to tap water, well water, river water, vegetable extract and milk samples, and accuracy is assessed through recovery experiments and by independent analysis by furnace atomic absorption.

  • A tidal prism eutrophication model, an one-dimensional intertidal model, is developed to study water quality conditions at small coastal basins and tidal creeks. The model simulates the physical transport processes using the concept of tidal flushing. The concept is simple and straightforward, and thus is ideal for small coastal basins with complex geometry. The model, having twenty-four state variables in the water column, simulates salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, three algal groups, and the cycles of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and silica. The model is applied to the Lynnhaven Bay, a small coastal basin of Chesapeake Bay in U.S.A. The model is calibrated using the field data collected in 1994, and then is verified using the independently collected data in 1980. The model overall gives a good reproduction of the field data, partly owing to the data collected from the field surveys specifically designed for the model application. This paper presents the procedure, and the results of the model calibration and verification.

  • We tested the feasibility of measuring fat thickness using a miniaturized chip LED sensor module, testing 12 healthy female subjects. The module consisted of a single detector and four sources at four different source-detector distances (SD). A segmental curve-fitting procedure was applied, using an empirical algorithm obtained by Monte-Carlo simulation, and fat thicknesses were estimated. These thicknesses were compared to computed-tomography (CT) results; the correlation coefficient between CT and optical measurements was 0.932 for bicep sites. The mean percentage error between the two measurements was 13.12%. We conclude that fat thickness can be efficiently measured using the simple sensor module.

  • A highly efficient and environmentally benign protocol has been developed for the first time to produce a wide range of biologically active 5-hydroxyindole derivatives using montmorillonite KSF clay as a reusable solid acid catalyst. The use of recyclable clay makes this procedure quite simple, more convenient and cost-effective.

  • This Paper Presents an effective and simple procedure for the simulation of the motion of the solid-liquid interfacial boundary and the transient temperature field during phase change process. To accomplish this purpose, an iterative implicit solution algorithm has been developed by employing the dual reciprocity boundary element method. The dual reciprocity boundary element approach provided in this paper is much simpler than the usual boundary element method applying a reciprocity principle and an available technique for dealing with domain integral of boundary element formulation simultaneously. The effectiveness of the present analysis method have been illustrated through comparisons of the calculation results of an example with its semi-analytical or other numerical solutions where available.

  • In human, sympathetic nerve blocks with local anesthetics are widely used to treat a variety of diseases in the innervating regions. However, its procedure in dogs is difficult to approach and process repeatedly because of anatomically location. Therefore, this study was designed to develop a new technique of sympathetic nerve block in beagle dogs. Fifteen healthy beagle dogs, which did not show any neurologic abnormalities and disease, were used for the study. Radiograghs were taken after injected radiopaque material mixed with 2% lidocaine at the cranial cervical ganglion and injected methylene blue using the same percutaneous technique to verify the reliability of this newly developed technique. The successful block rate of the cranial cervical ganglion block was present in 80% of all dogs and the stained cranial cervical ganglions were shown in all dogs. The results show that this new technique of the cranial cervical ganglion block is a reliable and simple method that can be used for clinical studies in dogs.

  • Many nanomaterials are being harnessed as critical components in various systems for biomedical applications including diagnosis, imaging, and drug delivery. Those systems necessitate biocompatibility and low toxcity within effective dose range while achieving enough efficacy. Even though many nanomaterials enjoy successful demonstrations in bioapplications, lack of biocompatibility and high cytotoxicity often become hurdles for practical bioapplications. On the other hand, it is important to achieve enough efficiency based on chemically well-defined systems with efforts to understand mechanism at molecular level. Here, we developvarious biocompatible nanomaterials based on simple procedure using dextran as both reducing agent and surface coating. Dextran is one of the popular biocompatible polymers that have been used for drug delivery and biosensors. Dextran coated nanomaterials showed excellent colloidal stability, flexible surface chemistry for conjugation of bioactive molecules and low cytotoxicity with successful demonstrations in various bioapplications.

  • Low pressure plasmas play a key role in many areas including electronic, aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and toxic waste management industries, and the advantages of the plasma are well known the processing procedure is established. However, the insight behavior of the discharges remains a mystery, even though a simple geometry as capacitive discharges. In this work, we measured RF power dissipation in capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) at various experiment conditions with potential probe and RF current probe. Through the results, we will have a clearer view of the inner nature of the CCP.

  • The dynamic behavior of a complex mechanical structure can be identified by dividing the structure into a series of smaller structure, called sub- structure and by studying the dynamic characteristics of these components. Generally, the dynamic characteristics of mechanical structure are strongly affected by the properties of joint parameters. In this paper, to identify the dynamic characteristics of mechanical structure, and experimental identification method in which directrly measured frequency response function(FRF) is used is considered. The method does not use the procedure of complex matrix calculation but use that of real matrix calculation. To confirm this method, computer simulation is performed by using frequency response function mixed with noise, and the experimental study is performed about the simple structure. The dynamic characteristics of joint parameters and identified more accurately than in using the prcedure of complex matrix calculation.
