  • The role of Islamic spirituality in the relationship between organizational justice (OJ) and job satisfaction is investigated in this study (JS). The three components of OJ in this study are distributive, procedural, and interactional justice. Islamic spirituality (IS) is founded on piety values, and IS was used as a moderating factor in this study to alter the link between OJ and JS among Malaysian employees of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Four hundred sets of the questionnaire were issued using a simple random selection procedure, yielding 276 completed responses, suggesting a 69 percent response rate. Multiple Linear Regression Analysis (MLRA) was used to test the proposed relationships. The findings of the study demonstrate that the three OJ aspects have a considerable impact on employee JS, indicating the significance of these elements in ensuring that employees are satisfied with their jobs. IS, on the other hand, had no effect on the link between the OJ dimensions and JS. This research has added to the existing body of knowledge by giving further empirical evidence on the impact of OJ aspects on employee JS in SMEs, notably in Malaysia.

  • A simple and accurate assay was developed for the quantitative analysis of 1-deoxynojirimycin (1-DNJ) derived from the silkworm (Bombyx mori). Normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with an evaporative light scattering detector (HPLC-ELSD) and a hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography column was used. Various parameters were applied to optimize the analysis method. The limits of detection and quantification of 1-DNJ were 2.97 × 10-3 and 9.00 × 10-3 mg/mL, respectively. The calibration curve showed good linearity results. The concentration range and the r2 value were 0.0625-1.0 mg/mL and 0.9997, respectively. The accuracy test demonstrated a significantly high recovery rate (89.95-103.22%). The relative standard deviation was ≤ 1.00%. Thus, a method for the accurate identification and quantitative analysis of 1-DNJ in silkworms was developed. Moreover, in this procedure, the process of derivatization of 1-DNJ, which was required in previous experiments, could be eliminated. This technique may be actively utilized for the development of pharmaceuticals and health functional foods using 1-DNJ.

  • The Radial Point Interpolation Method (RPIM) has been proposed to overcome the difficulties associated with the use of the Radial Basis Functions (RBFs). The RPIM has the following properties: Simple implementation in terms of boundary conditions as in the Finite Element Method (FEM). A less expensive CPU time compared to other collocation meshless methods such as the Moving Least Square (MLS) collocation method. In this work, we propose an adaptive high-order numerical algorithm based on RPIM to simulate the thermoviscoplastic behavior of a material mixing observed in the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process. The proposed adaptive meshfree RPIM algorithm adapts well to the geometric and physical data by choosing a good shape parameter with a good precision. Our numerical approach combines the RPIM and the Asymptotic Numerical Method (ANM). A numerical procedure is also proposed in this work to automatically determine an improved shape parameter for the RBFs. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is analyzed in comparison with an iterative algorithm.

  • Natural frequency behavior of graphene platelets reinforced composite (GPL-RC) joined truncated conical-cylindrical- conical shells resting on Winkler-type elastic foundation is presented in this paper for the first time. The rule of mixture and the modified Halpin-Tsai approach are applied to achieve the mechanical properties of the structure. Four different graphene platelets patterns are considered along the thickness of the structure such as GPLA, GPLO, GPLX, GPLUD. Finite element procedure according to Rayleigh-Ritz formulation has been used to solve 2D-axisymmetric elasticity equations. Application of 2D axisymmetric elasticity theory allows thickness stretching unlike simple shell theories, and this gives more accurate results, especially for thick shells. An efficient parametric investigation is also presented to show the effects of various geometric variables, three different boundary conditions, stiffness of elastic foundation, dispersion pattern and weight fraction of GPLs nanofillers on the natural frequencies of the joined shell. Results show that GPLO and BC3 provide the most rigidity that cause the most natural frequencies among different BCs and GPL patterns. Also, by increasing the weigh fraction of nanofillers, the natural frequencies will increase up to 200%.

  • Background: Standard open acromioclavicular (AC) stabilization is associated with increased postoperative complications including deltoid injury, infection, tunnel complications, loss of reduction, and wound/cosmetic concerns. Arthroscopy may offer superior visualization and advantages that limit these risks. The aim of this prospective non-randomized study is to evaluate advantages and long-term reliability of arthroscopic AC stabilization. Methods: Thirty-two patients with acute grade III, IV and V AC dislocations underwent arthroscopic AC reconstruction with long-term assessment by clinical AC examination, Simple Shoulder Test, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores, visual analog scale, Specific AC Score and Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand scores. Radiographs verified conservation of initial reduction and presence of coracoclavicular (CC) ossifications. Complications, revision rate, and satisfaction were assessed and compared to the literature. Results: Mean follow-up time was 67.6 months. All clinical outcome scores improved and differences were statistically significant (P<0.001). Initial postoperative radiographs consistently showed complete reduction. Two patients experienced relapse to grade II AC dislocation without clinical implications. In total, 71.8% showed CC ossifications without functional impairment, and in 31.3% concomitant injuries were observed. Reintervention rate was 9.4%, and 96.9% of patients were satisfied with procedure outcomes. Conclusions: Arthroscopic stabilization for acute AC joint dislocations offers satisfactory clinical and radiographic outcomes, and our results show that the arthroscopic technique is reliable in the long run. We report better reduction in maintenance, fewer complications, and similar reoperation rates compared to other techniques.

  • Due to seismically deficient details, existing reinforced concrete structures have low lateral resistance capacities. Since these building structures suffer an increase in axial loads to the main structural element due to the green retrofit (e.g., energy equipment/device, roof garden) for CO2 reduction and vertical extension, building capacities are reduced. This paper proposes a machine-learning-based methodology for allowable ranges of axial loading ratio to reinforced concrete columns using simple structural details. The methodology consists of a two-step procedure: (1) a machine-learning-based failure detection model and (2) column damage limits proposed by previous researchers. To demonstrate this proposed method, the existing building structure built in the 1990s was selected, and the allowable range for the target structure was computed for exterior and interior columns.

  • It has been reported that rare earth elements (REEs) are considerably present in coal ash. In this study, an ecofriendly sequential extraction method was developed for the effective REE recovery from coal ash and leaching wastewaters. Citrate, a weak and environmentally benign solvent that replaces acetate employed in the existing sequential extraction methods (e.g., European community bureau of reference (BCR) and Tessier methods), was found to be highly effective in leaching REEs from coal ash. Microwave-assisted thermal digestion improved the REE extraction efficiency even further, with an overall leaching rate of 70%, which is 2.54 and 3.76 times higher than the values achieved by the conventional BCR and Tessier methods, respectively. It was also confirmed that the majority of REEs was strongly bound to CaO, Al2O3, Fe2O3, and P2O5, not to SiO2. The sequential extraction method developed in this study is expected to be used as an effective and simple recovery procedure for REEs from coal ash and remaining leaching wastewaters.

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been of particular concern since they are present both in the vapor and particulate phases in ambient air. In this study, a simple method was applied to determine the vapor phase PAHs, and the performance of the new method was evaluated with a conventional method. The simple method was based on adsorption sampling and thermal desorption with GC/MS analysis, which is generally applied to the determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air. A combination of Carbotrap (300 mg) and Carbotrap-C (100 mg) sorbents was used as the adsorbent. Target compounds included two rings PAHs such as naphthalene, acenaphthylene, and acenaphthene. Among them, naphthalene was listed as one of the main HAPs together with a number of VOCs in petroleum refining industries in the USA. For comparison purposes, a method based on adsorption sampling and solvent extraction with GC/MS analysis was adopted, which is in principle same as the NIOSH 5515 method. The performance of the adsorption sampling and thermal desorption method was evaluated with respect to repeatabilities, detection limits, linearities, and storage stabilities for target compounds. The analytical repeatabilities of standard samples are all within 20%. Lower detection limits was estimated to be less than 0.1 ppbv. In the results from comparison studies between two methods for real air samples. Although the correlation coefficients were more than 0.9, a systematic difference between the two groups was revealed by the paired t-test (${\alpha}$=0.05). Concentrations of two-rings PAHs determined by adsorption and thermal desorption method consistently higher than those by solvent extraction method. The difference was caused by not only the poor sampling efficiencies of XAD-2 for target PAHs and but also sample losses during the solvent extraction and concentration procedure. This implies that the levels of lower molecular PAHs tend to be underestimated when determined by a conventional PAH method utilizing XAD-2 (and/or PUF) sampling and solvent extraction method. The adsorption sampling and thermal desorption with GC analysis is very simple, rapid, and reliable for lower-molecular weight PAHs. In addition, the method can be used for the measurement of VOCs in the air simultaneously. Therefore, we recommend that the determination of naphthalene, the most volatile PAH, will be better when it is measured by a VOC method instead of a conventional PAH method from a viewpoint of accuracy.

  • One of the advantages of SP methods is the possibility of getting a number of responses from each respondent. However, when the repeated observations from each respondent are analysed by applying the simple modeling method, a potential problem is created because of upbiased significance due to the repeated observation from each respondent. This study uses a variety of approaches to explore this issue and to test the robustness of the simple model estimates. Among several different approaches, the Jackknife method and Kocurs method were applied. The Jackknife method was implemented using a program JACKKNIFE. The model estimate results of Jackknife method and Kocurs method were compared with those of the uncorrected estimates in order to test whether there was repeated measurement problem or not and the extent to which this problem affected the model estimates. The standard errors between the uncorrected model estimates and Jackknife estimates were also compared. The results reveals that the t-ratios of Kocurs are much lower than those of the uncorrected method and Jackknife estimates, indicating that Kocurs method underestimates the significance of the coefficients. Jackknife method produced the almost same coefficients as those of the uncorrected model but the lower t-ratios. These results indicate that the coefficients of the uncorrected method are accurate but that their significance are somewhat overestimated. In this study. 1 concluded that the repeated measurement Problem did exist in our data, but that it did not affect the model estimation results significantly. It is recommended that such a test should become a standard procedure. If it turns out that the analysis based on the simple uncorrected method are influenced by the repeated measurement problem. it should be corrected.

  • In the previous studies, settlement behaviors of granular compaction piles have generally been analyzed with an evaluation of the settlement reduction factor based on tile load-sharing ratio and the replacement ratio. In this approach, however, since the reinforced ground with granular compaction piles is simplified as the composite ground, only the difference of a relative vertical strength between piles and soils is taken into account without reflecting lateral behaviors of granular compaction piles. In the companion research paper, the method of estimating the settlement of granular compaction piles was proposed by synthetically considering a vertical strength of the ground, lateral behaviors of granular compaction piles, the strength of pile materials, a pile diameter, and an installation distance of the pile. In the presented study, to validate a propriety of the previously proposed method, large scale field load tests and three dimensional numerical analyses are performed. The results are analyzed in detail and compared with the predicted settlements by the proposed method. Finally, a simple method to estimate the settlement of granular compaction piles is suggested for an easy application of the practical design.
