The purpose of this study was to evaluate physiological response and subjective sensation of functional knitwears with different materials and designs. The three different types of knitwears were knitted(polar-neck with cotton/chitosan-C, V-neck with cotton/chitosan-CV and polar neck with cotton/chitosan/silver yarn-CS) and evaluated by four healthy female subjects. Eardrum temperature, mean skin temperature, clothing microclimate, and heart rate were measured in climatic chamber($30^{\circ}C$, 50%RH, 0.5m/sec). The results were as follows. 1. Eardrum temperature was generally evaluated as lower in CV and CS than in C. Mean skin temperature was lower in knitwears with silver yarn than in knitwears without silver yarn. 2. Clothing microclimate temperature on the chest was lower in knitwears with silver yarn than in knitwears without silver yarn. 3. Clothing microclimate humidity was generally lower knitwears with silver yarn than knitwears without silver yarn. 4. Heart rate was lower in knitwears with silver yarn than in knitwears without silver yarn and lower in V-neck than in polar neck. 5. Thermal sensation was slightly warmer in knitwears without silver yarn than in knitwears with silver yarn. Overall comfort sensation was evaluated as more comfortable in CV and CS than in C.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the wearing sensation of T-shirts made with silver combination yarns. The four different single jersey fabrics were knitted to make long sleeve T-shirts: cotton(C), cotton/silver(CS), polyester(P), and polyester/silver(PS). The four kinds of T-shirts were evaluated by six healthy male subjects in a climatic chamber($25^{\circ}C$, 65%RH, 0.5m/sec). The results were as follows. Thermal and fatigue sensation of wearing CS was best. It was found that overall subjective sensation was improved by using silver yarn with cotton for health knitwear.
The aim of this study is to develop Casual Hanbok design made of Hanji yarn textiles for New Silver generation women. The New silver generation is a coined word which has meaning of a newly silver generation and it is distinguished from pre-silver generation. New silver generation is a generation that is independent and given active role by their age groups and generational characteristic. The concept of silver generation was introduced from maturity market in Japan. This study was based on analysis about their preference of forms, colors, and materials of Casual Hanbok. The survey target were 270 female over age 50 living in Daejeon City. The analysis methods used frequency and percentage. The results were summarized as following. Although almost of them haven't worn Casual Hanbok, they had the positive recognition on wearing one. They preferred longer length jacket to traditional Korean style, shorter length of skirt. They also preferred the traditional sleeve shape and knotted buttons. On the foundation of this fact, 2 styles consist of 5 Casual Hanbok design items made of functional material - Hanji yarn textiles that have antimicrobial, deodorant, quick drying, far infrared radiation which are not harmful to health - for New silver women were suggested. One style was 3 items - blouse, vest, skirt - which are the sense of Korean tradition with activity by patch. The other was 2 items - jacket and skirt - which are the sense of Korean tradition with modern way by quilting. Lastly, these garments were evaluated by 13 experts, they were satisfied with 2 styles and all items. As this study were based on the Elderly women living in Daejeon city, it had the limitation on applying of preference styles to all the New silver generation.
In this study, PET containing 3% silver ion-exchange zeolite was mixed with cotton in a ratio of 6:4 to prepare a spun yarn to evaluate the tensile strength, absorption speed, absorption rate, antibacterial property, and the efficiency of deodorization. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. First, it can be confirmed that silver ion exchange zeolite is evenly distributed inside and on the surface of the antimicrobial PET-SF through SEM. It was found that the tensile strength between the CVC sample mixed with silver ion zeolite PET and cotton and the normal cotton 100% sample was slightly lower in the CVC sample. Although the absorption speed and water absorption rate were measured to find out the moisture characteristics, it was confirmed that there was no significant difference. The contact angle was slightly larger in the antimicrobial CVC sample, but the time it took for the moisture to completely penetrate into the knit fabric was 0.85 seconds. In addition, it was found that out of the total mixing ratio, 40% of antibacterial PET was spun with regular cotton to produce yarn, which had an excellent bacteria reduction rate of 99.9% and a deodorization efficiency of 85%.
This paper presents a novel knitted data glove system for pattern classification of hand posture. Several experiments were conducted to confirm the performance of the knitted data glove. To find better sensor materials, the knitted data glove was fabricated with stainless-steel yarn and silver-plated yarn as representative conductive yarns, respectively. The result showed that the signal of the knitted data glove made of silver-plated yarn was more stable than that of stainless-steel yarn according as the measurement distance becomes longer. Also, the pattern classification was conducted for the performance verification of the data glove knitted using the silver-plated yarn. The average classification reached at 100% except for the pointing finger posture, and the overall classification accuracy of the knitted data glove was 98.3%. With these results, we expect that the knitted data glove is applied to various robot fields including the human-machine interface.
In this paper, silver slit yarns combined with cotton yarns were used to produce weft knits. The purpose of this study was to investigate the physical properties as well as the functional properties of weft knit with silver slit yarns. The six different weft knit fabrics were made from silver slit yarns varying knit structure and fabric density. One cotton weft knit was also knitted to compare the properties. Weft knits made from silver slit yarns were characterized by excellent antibacterial properties, electric magnetic shielding properties, UV-cut properties, anti-static properties, and air permeability. Although there were significant differences in the physical properties of different knit structure and the fabric density, weft knits with silver slit yarns were seen to have better end use properties and ideal for apparel than the cotton weft knits.
Electrically conductive yarn coated with silver particles are widely used to make smart wear but recent studies on smart fabrics are focused on measuring method of electrical characteristics and improving technologies of its electric properties. Also durability of conductive yarn with environmental change was also important work to make smart fabric. We compared resistance changes of silver coated conductive yarns under various physical and chemical conditions such as repeated strain, heat exposure and pH for basic informations on smart wear manufacturing process. And we deduct that repeated strain among the physical conditions was most effective factors on yarn resistance change and the low resistance change was observed with increasing the number of filaments in identical yarn fineness.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the physical properties and handle of knitwears made with silver yarns. The four different knitted fabrics were made and compared: cotton(C), cotton/silver(CS), polyester(P), and polyester/silver(PS). If fabrics knitted with silver combined yarns, their electrical shield properties, UV-cut properties, anti-static properties, and air permeability were improved. As an additional effect this also improves the antibacterial properties of fabrics. It was found that overall physical properties and functional properties were improved by using silver yarn with cotton. The silver knitted fabric was found to be improved its softness and fullness hand for apparel.
Currently, e-textile market is rapidly expanding and the emerging area of e-textiles requires electrically conductive threads for diverse applications, including wearable innovative e-textiles that can transmit/receive and display data with a variety of functions. This study introduces hybrid nano-structures which may help increase the conductivity of the textile threads for use in wearable and flexible smart apparels. For this aim, Ag was selected as a conductive material, and yarn treatment was implemented where silver nanowire (AgNW) and graphene flake (GF) hybrid structures overcome the limitations of the AgNW alone. The yarn treatment includes several treatment conditions, e.g., annealing temperature, annealing time, binder material such as polyurethane (PU), coating time, in order to search for the optimum method to form stable conductive nano-scale composite materials as thin film on the surface of textile yarns. Treatedyarns showed improved electrical resistance readings. The functionality of the spandex yarn as a stretchable conductive thread was also demonstrated. When the yarn specimens were treated with colloid of AgNW/GF, relatively good electrical conductivity value was obtained. During the extension and recovery cycles of the treated yarns, the initial resistance values did not deteriorate significantly, since the network of nanowire structure with the support of GF and polyurethane stayed flexible and stable. Through this research, it was found that when one-dimensional structure of AgNW and two-dimensional structure of GF were mixed as colloids and treated on the surface of textile yarns, flexible and stretchable electrical conductor could be formed.
