Statement of problem. The effect of gold electroforming on gold alloy was not studied. Purpose. This in vitro study investigate the effect of gold electroforming on gold-silver-palladium alloy. Material and methods. Three pieces of gold strips had undergone the electroforming procedures on one side and then half of the side again electroformed. The set mode for this study was program 1 ($200{\mu}m$). And the processing time was 15min (1/20 time to form $200{\mu}m$ coping). The confocal laser scanning microscope (PASCAL 5, Carl Zeiss, Bernried, Germany) was used to measure the thickness of the pure gold layer electroformed on the gold strips. Half of the gold strip was coated two times with electroformed gold, and the other half one time. The data from the cone focal laser system was processed to get the vertical profile of the strips and the difference of the vertical height between the double coated and single coated layer was regarded as the thickness of the gold coating. The layer thickness value to built 3D image of the cone-focal laser was set $0.5{\mu}m$. Next to the measurement of the thickness of the coating, the Vicker's hardness test was done. It was performed on the double coated surface, single coated surface and non-coated surface (back side) three times each. Results. The mean thickness value gained from gold electroforming technique was measured to be $22{\mu}m$ for sample 1, $23{\mu}m$ for sample 2, $21{\mu}m$ for sample 3. In the same condition of time, power and the amount of electrolyte, the data showed no difference between samples. According to the results of variance analysis, the differences among the variations in number of coating were statistically insignificant (p>0.05), meaning that the two times of gold electroforming coating did not change the hardness of gold-silver-palladium alloy. Conclusion. The test of thickness of gold coating proved the coherency of the gold electroforming procedure, in other words, when the power, the exposed surface area, processing time and the amount of electrolytes were set same, the same thickness of gold would be coated on. The hardness test showed that the electroformed gold coating did not change the hardness of the gold-silver-palladium alloy when it is coated not more than $45{\mu}m$.
Silver nanowire (AgNW) random-meshes with high transmittance, low sheet resistance, and high oxidation stability and flexibility were fabricated using solution-based processes. The random-mesh structure was obtained by forming bubbles whose sizes and densities were controlled using a corona treatment of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates. To reduce the sheet resistance of the fabricated AgNW electrode, a washing process using ethanol solution was performed. In addition, nickel (Ni) was coated on AgNW to improve resistance to oxidation. The effects of corona treatment and Ni-coating on the transmittance, sheet resistance, oxidation stability, and flexibility of the AgNW electrodes were investigated.
Low-emissivity (low-e) coatings with visible transparency have attracted increased interest m reducing heat radiation loss through window panes from ecological and sustainable aspects. $TiO_2$-silver transparent thin films for low-e have good properties for UV and IR blocking as well as photocatalyst compared to that with commercial UV blocking films such as fluorine doped oxide (FTO), antimony doped tin oxide (ATO), etc. In this study, transparent $TiO_2$-silver thin films were prepared by successive ink-jet printing of commercial nano silver and $TiO_2$ sol. The $TiO_2$ sol, as ink for ink-jet printing, were synthesized by hydrothermal process in the autoclave externally pressurized with $N_2$ gas of 200 bar at $120^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs. The synthesized $TiO_2$ sols were all formed with brookite phase and their particle size was several to 30 nm. At first nano sized silver sol was coated on glass substrate, after that $TiO_2$ sol was coated by ink-jet printing. With increasing coating thickness of $TiO_2$-silver multilayer by repeated ink-jet coating, the absorbance of UV region (under 400nm) and IR region (over 700nm) also increase reasonably, compared to that with commercial UV blocking films.
An experimental study was performed to discover the effect of environmental conditions on the rolling resistance behavior of pure silver and lead coated 52100 bearing steel. Pure silver and lead coatings were produced by a thermal evaporation coating method. Experiments using a thrust ball bearing-typed rolling test-rig were performed under vacuum, dry air and controlled humidity conditions. Results showed that agglomeration of particles were suppressed in vacuum environment and resulted in low and stable rolling resistance by shakedown phenomena. Also, humidity related closely to the agglomeration of particles and the rolling resistance after the failure of coated layer.

Particles of high strength material when coated with silver offer a means of obtaining desirable electrical properties and high strength. The coating process employed aqueous ammoniacal silver-nitrate electrolytes with a formaldehyde solution as the reductant. Modifying additives were also applied. The reduction and subsequent deposition of silver occurred selectively on the surface of the tungsten particles. The morphologies of the coated particles were assessed by SEM imaging. The silver was uniformed coated on tungsten powder and its thickness was estimated to be approximately 100nm on the basis of a mass account.
We have fabricated silver nanowire (AgNW) films as a stretchable and transparent electrode on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrates using a spray coater. Inherently, they show poor surface roughness and stretchability. To tackle it, we have employed a conductive polymer, poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) : Poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT : PSS). PEDTO : PSS solution is mixed with AgNWs or spin-coated on the AgNW film. Compared with AgNW film only, PEDOT : PSS film only, and polymer-mixed AgNW films, the AgNW/polymer bilayer films exhibit much better surface roughness and stretchability. It is found that spray-coating of AgNWs on uncured PDMS and spin-coating of PEDOT : PSS solution on the AgNW films enhance the surface roughness of electrodes. Such a bilayer structure also provides a stable resistance under tensile strain due to the fact that each layer acts as a detour route for carriers. With this structure, we have obtained the peak-to-peak roughness ($R_{pv}$) as low as 76.8nm and a moderate increase of sheet resistance (from $10{\Omega}/{\Box}$ under 0% strain to $30{\Omega}/{\Box}$ under 40% strain).
This study demonstrates hybrid-type transparent electrodes for touch screen panels. The hybrid-type electrodes were fabricated by coating carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on metal meshes. To form the metal-meshes, thin films of silver (Ag) were deposited on glass substrates using the sputtering method and then patterned via photolithography to obtain mesh structures whose line width was $10{\mu}m$ and line-to-line spacing was $300{\mu}m$. CNTs were coated on Ag-meshes by using two different methods, such as spray coating and electrophoretic deposition (EPD). For the samples of a Ag-meshes and CNTs-coated Ag-meshes, their surface morphologies, electrical sheet resistances, and visible-range transmittances and reflectances were characterized and compared. The experimental results indicated that the reflectance of Ag-mesh electrodes was substantially reduced by coating of CNTs. Especially, the hybrid electrodes of Ag-meshes with EPD-coated CNTs showed excellent properties such as sheet resistance lower than $20{\Omega}/{\Box}$, transmittance higher than 90 %, and reflectance lower than 8%.
Transparent conductive thin films (TCFs) are essential materials for solar cells, organic light-emitting diodes, and display panels. Indium tin oxide (ITO) is one of the most widely used commercial materials to create TCFs'; however, new materials that can possibly replace ITO at a lower cost and/or those possessing mechanical flexibility are urgently needed. Silver nanowire (AgNW) is one of those promising materials, as it is less expensive and possesses superior mechanical flexibility as compared to ITO. We used AgNW and sol-gel ZnO to fabricate composite thin films by spray coating. We propose two spray-coating methods: the 'metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD)/AgNW' method and the Mixture method. These two methods are expected to be commercialized for high-quality and low-cost products, respectively.
An experimental study was performed to discover the tribological behaviors of pure tin and zinc coated 52100 bearing steel. Pure tin coatings ranging from 30 nm to 30,000 nm and pure zinc coatings ranging from 500 nm to 52,000 nm were produced by a thermal evaporation coating method. Experiments using a thrust ball bearing-typed rolling test-rig were performed for the investigations of the effect of coating thickness on the tribological rolling behavior. Results showed that the existence of optimum film thickness which revealed minimum rolling resistance was discovered for tin and zinc coating. The compatibility of coating material to iron showed no significant effect on the rolling resistance behavior. The hardness of coating material revealed significant influence to the rolling resistance behavior.
