  • These works were carried on to study the damage due to agricultural chemicals on silkworm and to find out the best ways to use them, considering, in the horticultural field, the utilization of them has rapidly been increased. The results may be summarized as follows: 1) The mulberry leaves being more than 100m from the horticultural field used the agricultural chemicals did not harm the silkworm. 2) Even if the mulberry leaves were located less than loom from the horticultural field sprayed with the chemicals, the silkworms were not injured after washing the mulberry leaves which were attached with the chemicals. 3) The chemicals, E.P.N., B. H. C. 2%, and Selesan were more seriously injured to silkworm than the other ones.

  • In order to analyse the correlation between the parents and their hybrids in the silkworm, which were reared in spring, the author has surveyed the various quantitative characters which are significant in genetics, and the hybrid vigor rate. The duration of larvae life is shorter in F1 Value an in the mid parents value, cocoon size biffer, pupa rate, cocoon crop from ten thousand silkworms just molted in the fourth instar, total cocoon weight and cocoon layer weight increases in comparison with the mid parents value. Although cocoon layer ratio only shows increasing by 0.3% or so, it is too little to admit the effect. F1 value is nearly equal to parent value and there is no correlation between F1 hybrids value and their mid parents value.

  • On the purpose of exploiting cellulose resourse which is needed for artificial diet of silkworms, mulberry branch, eastern cotton wood branch, pitch pine pulp, poplar pulp, chaff, sawdust and rice straw were examined. Among the matters above mentioned. mulberry branch and pitch pine pulp were found to be replaceable as cellulose component in the artificial diet. By means of some chemical treatments, it is found that one of the extracted cellulose powder from mulberry branches is more useful in the larval growth.

  • The aim of this treatise was to find out the factors related to the weight of a have in the original silkworm. The results obtained are as follows: 1. There is no relationship between the degumming rate and cocoon layer rate, but there is related with the weight of cocoon only in chinese strain. 2. There is no difference among the strains, but considerably differente in degumming rate among the species. 3. The degumming rate of female is higher than that of male.

  • Fruiting bodies similar to those of the ascomycete fungi Podostroma cornu-damae and Cordyceps militaris were collected from Mt. Seunghak in Busan, Korea on August 21, 2012. The fruiting bodies were cylindrical, with tapered ends and golden red in color. The fruiting bodies contained abundant conidiophores bearing single-celled conidia, but no perithecia or asci. Pure culture of the fungal isolates was obtained through single-spore isolation. Analyses of morphological characteristics, including conidia shape, and phylogenetic traits, using internal transcribed spacer sequences, showed that these isolates belonged to the species Simplicillium lanosoniveum. Although this fungal species is known to be mycoparasitic, the isolates obtained in this study were unable to infect fungi. However, silkworms (Bombyx mori) inoculated with the fungal isolates died during the larval or pupal stages, as has been shown for the strongly entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana. This study is the first report of the entomopathogenicity of S. lanosoniveum and indicates its potential for use in biological control of insects.

  • 1. Amylase producing bacteria have been isolated from natural sources and was identified out. The above strain is identical to Bacillus subtillis in every details of physiological and morphorogical characteristics by this investigations. 2. Sikworm chrysalis nad chlorella extracts are prove to be further effective for the stimulation of amylase production than any other sources. The former silkworm extract is more stronger in its activity. 3. It is found that effective results had been accepted by a less soybean meal addition per that of wheat bran in the mixture ratio of them, also less addition of corn is needed in the mixture ratio of between corn and whear bran. In the mixing ratio of wheat bran per silkworm or chlorella extracts, the addition of wheat bran is necessary for stimulation of amylase production. 4. Fro the stimulation of amylase production, the effective substances from natural sources and its order of activity in cultral media cultral media is proved as follows, silkworms ext.>chlorella ext.>alcohol>skim-milk and peptone>fermented milk>radish leaf ext.

  • The flat-ways spinned cocoon was prepared from the silkworm using flat and circular type cocooning frame. The spinning rate of the silkworm was 76.9% compared to the normal mounted silkworm. The arrangement of cocoon baves of the flat-ways spinned cocoon was more linear than the normal cocoon which is curved. To maintain the size-stability of the flat-ways spinned cocoon, degumming process was treated with enzymes. These flat-ways spinned cocoons could be used as padding materials for the thermal insulations and decoration uses for the traditional fan which the silkworms are mounted directly on the fan frame.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of the mulberry leaves sprayed with filtered solutions and non-filtered solutions of ginseng, on the various practical characteristics of the silkworm (Bombyx mori) in spring, summer and late autumn in 1971, and spring and autumn in 1972. 1. There was no evidence that the various ginseng concentrations influence the practical characteristics in the silkworms, according to the different instars and rearing seasons. 2. Non-filtered solutions of ginseng have a bad effect upon the silkworm characteristics, especially in pupation ratio and reelable cocoon ratio.
