  • Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) Silicone Rubber has been widely used to coat porcelain insulator to prevent formation water filming on insulator surface. and RTV silicone rubber has water repellency to suppress leakage current and consequent flashover. RTV silicone rubber's surface has been degradated by outdoor condition such as dust, salt, and water. etc. ESDD(Equivalent Salt Deposit Density) and leakage currents are increased by polymer surface toughness and degradation. In this paper, we investigated relations of surface toughness, ESDD, and leakage currents.

  • Silicone is recently used for LED chip encapsulment due to its good thermal stability and optical transmittance. In order to predict residual stress which causes optical briefringence and mechanical warpage of silicone, finite element analysis was conducted for both curing and cooling process during silicone molding. For analysis of curing process, a cure kinetics model was derived based on the differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) test and applied to the material properties for finite element analysis. Finite element simulation result showed that the curing as well as the cooling process should be designed carefully so as to reduce the residual stress although the cooling process plays the bigger role than curing process in determining the final residual stress state.

반도전성 실리콘 고무의 플라즈마 처리에 따른 표면의 특성변화 (Changes of Surface Properties by Plasma Treatment on the Surface of Semiconductive Silicone Rubber)

  • This paper was investigated the changes of surface properties of high-temperature-vulcanized (HTV) semiconductive silicone rubber due to oxygen plasma discharge. The modifications produced on the silicone rubber surface by oxygen plasma were accessed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), contact angle and Surface Roughness Tester. The results of the chemical analysis Showed that C-H bonds were broken due to plasma discharge and Silica-like bonds (SiOx, x=$3\~4$) increased. It is thought that the above changes lead to the increase of surface energy of high-temperature-vulcanized (HTV) semiconductive silicone rubber also, Surface roughness was increased with cleavage of side-chains and oxidation process, it confirmed change as the SEM. The micromorphology of surface and hydrophobicity due to plasma discharge based on our results were discussed.

  • Silicone-coated fabric were treated by oxygen low temperature plasma to improve the adhesion. The surface of silicone-coated fabric was modified with gaseous plasma of several discharge power in the presence of oxygen gas at 1Torr pressure. Oxygen plasma treatment introduces oxygen-containing functional groups and micro-pittings on the silicone-coated fabric surface. The treated fabrics with oxygen low temperature plasma were measured by contact angle analyzer and XPS(X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), and interfacial adhesion was measured by T-peel test. The surface of fabric was investigated by SEM photographs. The chemical and physical modification of the surface wettabillity by plasma treatment can increase the adhesion.

  • Silicone resin which is made from silicone(Si) is well known by its heat-resistant property. Its good heat-resistant enables silicons resin being used in high temperature (up to $200^{\circ}C$) heavy-dury environment for electric insulation. This paper has dealed with the electrical properties of silicone resin such as dielectric constant and tan ${\delta}$ with heat treatment temperature $(200^{\circ}C{\sim}450^{\circ}C)$. To investigate the electrical insulation of silicone resin, dielectric strength by A.C and anti-tracking properties under both AC and D.C have been performed.

거품을 이용한 발수 발유가공 (Foam Application for Water and Oil Repellent Finishes)

  • This study was to investigate the application of foam finishing technology (FFT) for the silicone finishing of cotton fabrics and the tluorochemical finishing of polyester fabrics. The repellency properties, soil resistance properties and selected physical properties were demonstrated and compared the foam finishing with the conventional padding application. Amino-funetional silicone prorided better durability than epoxy-functional silicone and conventional reactive silicone after three launderings. Foam finishing fabrics improved stiffness but showed lower or equivalent water and oil repellency properties, soil resistance properties, tearing strength and abrasion resistance than those of the fabrics treated by conventional padding process. But, it was evident that the foam application of silicone and fluorochemical finishes to the fabrics were feasible.

  • Composite insulators are rapidly replacing their porcelain counterparts in electrical substation applications. The composite insulator provide technical and safety ad vantages over other types of insulator. These insulators consist of a FRP(Fiber-reinforced polymer), with two metal flanges and silicone rubber. In this paper, we have investigated the influence of electric field different shaped silicone shed under $SF_6$ gas. As a result, shape of silicone rubber does not effected a electric field. However, the shape of shed can be decided the creepage distance.

  • Silicone surfactants are widely used in many industrial area because of its thermal stability and lower foaming property. But it has limitation to expand the application because of migration and bubble generation issues when it is mixed with organic surfactant. In this study, epoxy functionalized fluoro-silicone surfactant, perfluoro glycidoxypropyl polyether siloxane(PFGES), was synthesized using hydrosilylation reaction among perfluoro methyl hydrogen siloxane, allyl glycidyl ether, and allyl ployether in order to get lower surface tension, better thermal stability than conventional silicone surfactant, and reactivity with anhydride function.

  • Room temperature vulcanizing(RTV)silicone rubber has been widely used to coat porcelain insulators to render water repellency to prevent formation of water filming on the surface and thus to suppress the leakage current and consequent flashover. However, the electrical property and its hydrophobicity of RTV silicone rubber coating under outdoor conditions may be influenced by many environmental factors. In this study various treatments, such as salt-fog, salt water immerging and UV irradiation were applied to samples for investigation the change of the electrical property and hydrophobicity. As a result the leakage current increased and contact angle decreased as the degradation time longer. But the degraded RTV silicone rubber has recovered its hydrophobicity during the drying time in ambient condition because LMW(Low Molecular Weight)silicone fluid diffused from the bulk to the surface.

  • Dielectric properties of low viscous silicone oils have been investigated as a function of frequency and The increase of polymerization degree was attributed to presence of Si-O-Si bonds and their increased dissociation factor. The application of the Clausius-Mosotti equation on the low viscous silicone oils, it has been previously assumed that the oils were dilute solutions of polar molecules. In the silicone oil the Si-o and O-Si bonds give dipole polarization. Simple relations have been found which dipole moment and activation energy as a function of number of Si atoms in the low viscous silicone oils.
