Woerner had suggested an asynchronous trellis-coded DS/CDMA system based on a multi-sequence signaling, biorthogonal sequence, which is superior to single sequence signaling, such as M-ary PSK, due to their better cross-correlation properties. This paper analyzes and compares system performance between OPSM, a recently-presented multi-sequence signaling scheme, and biorthogonal sequence signaling. Interuser interference moments of the two schemes are derived and compared which verifies that OPSM, having smaller signature sequences per symbol than biorthogonal signaling, reduces cross-correlation. Numerical results compare the power and spectral efficiency of asynchronous trellis-coded DS/CDMA systems based on multi-sequence signaling.

In this paper, we propose a class of polyphase signature sequences, whose general odd correlation properties are useful for 4-phase signaling systems. The performance of the direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems using the proposed sequences is compared with that using binary pseudo-noise sequences. The performance of the system using the proposed sequence is shown to be better than that using other conventional sequences both from the worst-case analysis and bit error rate simulations.

In this paper, we propose a class of polyphase signature sequences, whose general odd correlation properties are useful for M-ary phase signaling systems. The maximum magnitude of the general odd correlation functions of the proposed sequences are investigated and compared with those of FZC (Frank-Zadoff-Chu) sequences and those of EOE (equivalent odd and even correlation) sequences. The performance of the asynchronous M-ary phase signaling systems using the proposed sequences is simulated and compared with that using FZC sequences in direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems. The performance of the system using the proposed sequence is shown to be better than that using FZC sequences when the multipath fading is in existence.

Most of the existing studies on functional safety testing for the railway signaling system software have focused on verifying the functional safety through the monitoring of internal memory embedded railway signaling system. However, the railway signaling system is one of the typical embedded control system in the railway sector, and the embedded software has a characteristic of generating an appropriate outputs through the combination of internal processing in consideration of the current internal status and external input. Therefore, the test approach of using the interface communication channel can be effective way for the functional testing for railway signaling system software in consideration of these characteristic. Since a communication interface specification of the railway signal system has a the properties of the sequence input and output signals, test-case for software testing is the most effective methodology by MSC (Message Sequence Chart) language, one of the graphic language. The MSC-based test-case generating methodology for signaling system software was proposed in this paper.

Collision Management Protocol (CMP) efficiently resolves collisions when data frames are transmitted in networks consisting of HomPNA 3.0 asynchronous MAC mode device with random access. Unlike Distributed Fair Priority Queueing (DFPQ) algorithm in HomePNA 2.0 or Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm in IEEE 802.11, order of retransmission is decided according to Collision Signaling Sequence (CSS) values allocated to each device. Thus, CMP can minimize the number of mean collisions because order of retransmission is decided in a deterministic way. In this paper. we evaluate the saturation performance of CMP in HomePNA 3.0 using an analytic method.

A high speed serial link transmitter using multi-level signaling is proposed. To achieve high data rate m high speed serial link, 4-pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) is used. By transmitting 2 bit data in each symbol time, high speed data transmission, two times than binary signaling, is achieved. The transmitter transmits current-mode output instead of voltage-mode output Current-mode output is much faster than voltage-mode output, so higher data transmission is available by increasing switching speed of driver. $2^5-1$ pseudo-random bit sequence (PRBS) generator is contained to perform built-in self test (BIST). The 4-PAM transmitter is designed in Dongbu HiTek $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology and achieves 8 Gb/s, 160 mV of eye height with 1.8 V supply voltage. The transmitter consumes only 98 mW for 8 Gb/s transmission.
Verification and testing are complementary techniques that are used to increase the level of confidence in the correct functioning of communication systems as prescribed by their specifications. This paper presents an experience of model checking for a formal railway signaling protocol specified in LTS (Labeled Transition System). This formal approach checks deadlock, livelock and reachability for the state and action to verify whether properties expressed in modal logic are true on specifications. We also propose a formal method for semi-automated test case generation for a railway signaling protocol described in I/O FSM (Input/Output Finite State Machine). This enables the generation of more complete and consistent test sequence for conformance testing. The above functions are implemented by C++ language and included within RSPVTE (Railway Signaling Protocol Verification and Testing Environment).
Rph1 and Gisl are damage-responsive repressors involved in PHR1 expression. They have two $C_{2}$H/ sub 2/ zinc finger motifs as putative DNA binding domains and N-terminal conserved domain with unknown function. They are also found in the human retinoblastoma binding protein 2 and the mouse jumonji- encoded protein. The repressors are able to bind to A $G_{4}$ sequence within a 39-bp sequence called upstream repressing sequence of PHR1 promoter (UR $S_{PHR1}$) responsible for the damage-response of PHR1. We report here that Rph1 is predominantly localized in the nucleus as examined by fluorescence microscopic analysis with GFP-Rph1 fusion protein. On the basis of the fact that the A $G_{4}$ sequence that is recognized by Rph1 and Gisl is also recognized by Msn2 and Msn4 in a process of stress response, we a1so tried to examine the in vivo function of A $G_{4}$ and the role of Msn2 and Msn4 in PHR1 expression. Our results demonstrate that Msn2 and Msn4 are actually required for the basal transcription of PHR1 expression but not for its damage induction. When A $G_{4}$ sequence was inserted into the minimal promoter of the cyc1-LacZ reporter, the increased LacZ expression was observed indicating its involvement in transcriptional activation. The data suggest that the A $G_{4}$ is primarily required for basal transcriptional activation of PHR1 or CYC1 promoter through the possible involvement of Msn2 and Msn4. However, since the A $G_{4}$ is also involved in the repression of PHR1 via Rphl and Gisl, it is proposed that A $G_{4}$ functions as either URS or upstream activating sequence (UAS) depending on the promoter context.t.
The advanced glycation endproducts receptor (AGER) is a multiligand signal transduction receptor. One of its ligands, S100b molecules activates vascular smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells via its receptor, thus triggering activation of signaling cascades and generation of cytokines and proinflammatory molecules. Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme Ubc9 is an E2 conjugating enzyme that transfers the activated small ubiquitin-related modifier to protein substrates, and thus it plays a critical role in SUR-Mylation-mediated cellular pathways. Previous studies have shown that both AGE-R and Ubc9 play roles in diverse cellular signaling pathways. However, until recently, little attention has been paid to interactions between AGE-R and Ubc9. In this study, sequence database searches allowed us to identify a potential interaction motif between AGE-R and Ubc9. The subsequent biochemical and molecular biological analysis suggested that there may be specificity in AGE-R and Ubc9 complex signaling in atherosclerosis and cancer cells in a cell-type specific manner. Although the determinant for specificity in AGE-R and Ubc9 complex signaling in cancer cells and atherosclerosis is yet to be determined, this study provides the basis to develop a specific therapeutic application of AGE-R, SURM (small ubiquitin-related modifier)-1, and Ubc9 complex activation pathways in atherosclerosis, diabetes, cancer and inflammatory diseases.
Several aspects of photoperception and light signal transduction have been elucidated by studies with model plants. However, the information available for economically important crops, such as Fabaceae species, is scarce. In order to incorporate the existing genomic tools into a strategy to advance soybean research, we have investigated publicly available expressed sequence tag (EST) sequence databases in order to identify Glycine max sequences related to genes involved in light-regulated developmental control in model plants. Approximately 38,000 sequences from open-access databases were investigated, and all bona fide and putative photoreceptor gene families were found in soybean sequence databases. We have identified G. max orthologs for several families of transcriptional regulators and cytoplasmic proteins mediating photoreceptor-induced responses, although some important Arabidopsis phytochrome-signaling components are absent. Moreover, soybean and Arabidopsis genefamily homologs appear to have undergone a distinct expansion process in some cases. We propose a working model of light perception, signal transduction and response-eliciting in G. max, based on the identified key components from Arabidopsis. These results demonstrate the power of comparative genomics between model systems and crop species to elucidate several aspects of plant physiology and metabolism.
