A DC-DC converter with digital controller is realized. the digital controller has several advantages such as robustness, fast design time, and high flexibility. however, since the DC-DC output voltage is analog, an analog-to-digital conversion scheme is always essential in all digital controllers. A simple and efficient delta-sigma modulator is used as a conversion scheme in out implementation. The measurement results show good voltage regulation
In the hydrologic and hydrochemical studies of natural waters, oxygen and hydrogen isotope compositions of waters are very important to elucidate the origin and circulation pattern of water in the hydrologic system. The hydrogen isotope analysis of waters usually has been undertaken through the reduction of water to form hydrogen gas using pure metals (in general, zinc and uranium). In 1996, a new apparatus (H/Device) was developed to prepare the water samples (by the reduction with Cr metal) without some intrinsic problems that may yield incorrect and/or inaccurate data, and was installed at 1997 in the Center for Mineral Resources Research (CMR) in Korea University. However, the optimistic conditions of preparation and analysis of samples has not been established. In this paper, we introduce the efficiency of H/Device to obtain accurate hydrogen isotope values of water, and discuss both the optimum conditions including the effective reduction time and the probable mixing (memory) effect between successive samples. We obtained large amounts of a laboratory working standard (KUW; Korea University Water) with the average ${\delta}D_{SMOW}$ value of $-42.1{\pm}1.0$‰ $(1{\sigma})$.
Delta-endotoxin crystals of B. thuringiensis var. kurstari and B. thuringiensis var. israelensis were purified by NaBr density gradient centrifigation and the wet weight of the BTK endotoxin was approximately 23.79% of the cell wet weight and that of BTI was 25%. The shape of BTK crystal was bipyramidal, whose size was 1.7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$ 0.9${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and that of BTI was a spheroid, whose size was about 1.6$\times$0.45${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The molecular weight of BTK crystal protein was approximately 134,000 daltons and that of BTI was about 128,000 daltons.
The effect of five commercial gums (carboxylmethylcellulose, CMC; guar gum, GG; hydroxypropylmethyl-cellulose, HPMC; locust bean gum, LBG; and xanthan gum) at a concentration of 0.25% on the rheological properties of rice flour (RF) dispersions was investigated in steady and dynamic shear. The steady shear rheological properties showed that RF gum mixture dispersions (5%, w/w) at $25^{\circ}C$ had high shear-thinning flow behavior (n=0.20-0.31) exhibiting a yield stress. Magnitudes of consistency index (K), apparent viscosity (${\eta}_{a,100}$), and Casson yield stress (${\sigma}_{oc}$) of RF-gum mixtures were much higher than those of RF dispersion with no added gum (control). Activation energy values (6.67-10.8 kJ/mole) of RF-gum mixtures within the temperature range of $25-70^{\circ}C$ were lower than that (11.9 kJ/mole) of the control. Dynamic rheological data of log (G', G") versus log frequency (${\omega}$) of RF-gum mixtures had positive slopes (0.15-0.37) with G' greater than G" over most of the frequency range (0.63-63 rad/sec), demonstrating a frequency dependency. Tan ${\delta}$ (G"/G') values of RF-gum mixtures, except for xanthan gum, were much higher than that of the control.
Comparing the adsorption properties and dissociation on a Pt(111) iththat ona Fe(111) surface, we have con-sidered seven coordination modes of the adsorbed binding site: $di-${\sigma}$${\Delta}$\mu\pi/\mu$, 1-fbld,2-fold, and 3-fbld sites. On the Pt(111) surface, t he adsorbed binding site of carbon dioxide was strongestat the1-fold site and weakest at the $\pi/\mu-site.$ The adsorbed binding site on the Fe(111) surface was strongest at the di-бsite and weakest at the 3-fold site. We have found that the binding energy at each site that excepted 3-fold on the Fe(111) surface was stronger than the binding energy on the Pt(111) surface and that chemisorbed $CO_2bends$ because of metal mixing with $2\piu${\rightarrow}$6a_1CO_2orbital.$, The dissociation reaction occured in two steps, with an intermediate com-plex composed of atomic oxygen and ${\pi}bonding$ CO forming. The OCO angles of reaction intermediate com-plex structure for the dissociation reaction $were115^{\circ}Con$ the Pt(111), and $117^{\circ}C$ on the Fe(111) surface. We have found that the $CO_2dissociation$ rea11) surface proceeds easily, with an activationenergy about 0.2 eV lower than that on the Pt(111) surface.
In marine clay deposits, naturally formed or artificially reclaimed, the evaluation and monitoring of the consolidation process has been a critical issue in civil engineering practices due to the time frame required for completing the consolidation process, which range from several days to several years. While complementing the conventional iconographic method suggested by Casagrande and recently developed in-situ techniques that measure the shear wave, this study suggests an alternative experimental procedure that can be used to evaluate the consolidation state of marine clay deposits using the shear wave velocity. A laboratory consolidation testing apparatus was implemented with bimorph-type piezoelectric bender elements to determine the effective stress-shear wave velocity (${\sigma}^{\prime}-V_s$) relationship with the marine clays of interest. The in-situ consolidation state was then evaluated by comparing the in-situ shear wave velocity data with the effective stress-shear wave velocity relationships obtained from laboratory experiments. The suggested methodology was applied and verified at three different sites in South Korea, i.e., a foreshore site in Incheon, a submarine deposit in Busan, and an estuary delta deposit in Busan. It is found that the shear wave-based experimental procedure presented in this paper can be effectively and reliably used to evaluate the consolidation state of marine clay deposits.

In this paper, biomimetic based physical ear model proposed for measuring the characteristics of a hybrid-acoustic sensor for fully implantable middle-ear hearing aid. The proposed physical ear model consists of the external ear, middle-ear, and cochlea. The physical ear model was implemented based on the anatomical structure and CT images of the human ear. To confirm the characteristics of the ear model, the vibrational characteristics of the stapes was measured after applying sound pressure to the tympanic membrane. The measured results were compared with the vibrational characteristics of the human temporal bone specified by ASTM F2504-05. Through the comparison results, the feasibility of the proposed ear model was confirmed. Then, after attaching the hybrid-acoustic sensor to the ear model, the output characteristics of the ECM and acceleration sensor were measured according to the sound pressure. The measured results were compared with previous studies using human temporal bone, and the usefulness of the proposed physical ear model was verified through the analysis results.
This study describes the feasibility of producing high-strength Al alloy sheet with a high solute content using a combined technique of twin-roll strip casting and asymmetric rolling. The Al sheet produced in this study exhibited excellent formability ($\overline{r}$ =1.0, $\Delta$r=0.16) and mechanical properties ($\sigma_{TS}$~305 MPa, $\epsilon$~33%), that, cannot be feasibly obtained via the conventional technique based on ingot casting and rolling. The structural origin of the observed properties, especially enhanced formability, was clarified by examining the evolution of textures associated with strip casting and subsequent thermo-mechanical treatments. Our evaluation of the mechanical properties and formability leads us to conclude that the combination of strip casting and asymmetric rolling is a feasible process for enhancing the formability of Al alloy sheets to the level beyond what the conventional techniques can reach.
Cone factors, $N_{kt}$, $N_{ke}$ and $N_{{\Delta}u}$, for estimating undrained shear strength of Busan clay are evaluated in this study. For this, CPTu and field vane tests are performed for clay layers at two sites, Busan new-port and Noksan, and also $CK_0U$ triaxial tests with undisturbed samples taken from the same site are carried out. From experimental results, it is observed that the undrained shear strengths of clay increases with depth, and the undrained shear strength obtained from triaxial tests is 1.5 times higher than one obtained from vane tests. The normalized undrained shear strengths of Busan clay from triaxial and vane shear tests are $0.26{\sim}0.44$ and $0.20{\sim}0.23$, respectively. In CPTu results, cone tip resistance ($q_c$) and pore pressure ($u_2$) linearly increase with depth, and the pore pressure ratio ($B_q$) of Busan clay is within the range of $0.3{\sim}1.0$. The cone factors, which are determined by comparing the CPTu results with $CK_0U$ triaxial and vane shear test results, are found to be $5{\sim}20$ and $10{\sim}35$, respectively. It is also observed that the cone factors are inversely proportional to the pore pressure ratio. From this, the prediction methods for evaluating the cone factors of Busan clay are developed.
The Boguk cobalt mine is located within the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Sedimentary Basin. Major ore minerals including cobalt-bearing minerals (loellingite, cobaltite, and glaucodot) and Co-bearing arsenopyrite occur together with base-metal sulfides (pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, pyrite, sphalerite, etc.) and minor amounts of oxides (magnetite and hematite) within fracture-filling $quartz{\pm}actinolite{\pm}carbonate$ veins. These veins are developed within an epicrustal micrographic granite stock which intrudes the Konchonri Formation (mainly of shale). Radiometric date of the granite (85.98 Ma) indicates a Late Cretaceous age for granite emplacement and associated cobalt mineralization. The vein mineralogy is relatively complex and changes with time: cobalt-bearing minerals with actinolite, carbonates, and quartz gangues (stages I and II) ${\rightarrow}$ base-metal sulfides, gold, and Fe oxides with quartz gangues (stage III) ${\rightarrow}$ barren carbonates (stages IV and V). The common occurrence of high-temperature minerals (cobalt-bearing minerals, molybdenite and actinolite) with low-temperature minerals (base-metal sulfides, gold and carbonates) in veins indicates a xenothermal condition of the hydrothermal mineralization. High enrichment of Co in the granite (avg. 50.90 ppm) indicates the magmatic hydrothermal derivation of cobalt from this cooling granite stock, whereas higher amounts of Cu and Zn in the Konchonri Formation shale suggest their derivations largely from shale. The decrease in temperature of hydrothermal fluids with a concomitant increase in fugacity of oxygen with time (for cobalt deposition in stages I and II, $T=560^{\circ}C-390^{\circ}C$ and log $fO_2=$ >-32.7 to -30.7 atm at $350^{\circ}C$; for base-metal sulfide deposition in stage III, $T=380^{\circ}-345^{\circ}C$ and log $fO_2={\geq}-30.7$ atm at $350^{\circ}C$) indicates a transition of the hydrothermal system from a magmatic-water domination toward a less-evolved meteoric-water domination. Sulfur isotope data of stage II sulfide minerals evidence that early, Co-bearing hydrothermal fluids derived originally from an igneous source with a ${\delta}^{34}S_{{\Sigma}S}$ value near 3 to 5‰. The remarkable increase in ${\delta}^{34}S_{H2S}$ values of hydrothermal fluids with time from cobalt deposition in stage II (3-5‰) to base-metal sulfide deposition in stage III (up to about 20‰) also indicates the change of the hydrothermal system toward the meteoric water domination, which resulted in the leaching-out and concentration of isotopically heavier sulfur (sedimentary sulfates), base metals (Cu, Zn, etc.) and gold from surrounding sedimentary rocks during the huge, meteoric water circulation. We suggest that without the formation of the later, meteoric water circulation extensively through surrounding sedimentary rocks the Boguk cobalt deposits would be simple veins only with actinolite + quartz + cobalt-bearing minerals. Furthermore, the formation of the meteoric water circulation after the culmination of a magmatic hydrothermal system resulted in the common occurrence of high-temperature minerals with later, lower-temperature minerals, resulting in a xenothermal feature of the mineralization.
