  • In case of uneven surcharge like backfill or embankment after constructing caisson applied on the deep soft marine deposits, lateral deformation of soft soils would happen due to plastic deformation of soil particles by increase of excess pore water pressure. Lateral deformation of soil will result in the caisson displacement which affects soft soil-caisson structure safety. Soft soil was improved by soil compaction pile method, and then gravity caisson was installed. Soil deformations were monitored and analyzed with step by step backfill and embankment behind the caisson. Amount and speed of lateral deformation after the installation of caissons were closely related with the time of backfill and embankment. The relationship between maximum lateral displacement($\Delta_y$) in front of caisson and settlement($\Delta_s$) can be expressed as $\Delta_y=(0.0871)\Delta_s+122.95$. Soft soil depth did not affect the lateral displacement of caisson in this study, which can be explained the soft soil improvement under the caisson by S.C.P. method. Substantially the amount and speed of the lateral deformation of caisson were closely related with the uneven surcharging rate behind caisson.

  • Tourist destination remodeling project is the tourist destination activation program to promote underdeveloped tourist destination that the Ministry of Culture and Sports has been implementing as a pilot program since 2005. Since previous tourist destination development programs focused on developing facilities, they could not quite cope with the changes in the tourism paradigm. Especially for caves, they could not escape from the simple sightseeing for the characteristics of the resource were fit to the caves. These results failed to meet tourist demands to experience and participate that the number of tourists is continuously decreasing. To cope with the circumstances, the government introduced a pilot program, a comprehensive tourist destination reorganization plan designed to comprehensively promote the tourism contents development (software) that can differentiate the region such as the tourism activation programs, tourist destination management and operation system reorganization (humanware) along with the repair of facilities (hardware project). This study emphasized the participation of residents who are the actual subject of management and operation of tourist facilities and programs in the course of establishing the master plan for remodeling for Gossi Cave that it can be used as the reference for establishing remodeling plan based on resident participation in the future.

  • There are three natural conservation systems that UNESCO assigns: World Heritage, Biosphere Reserve and Geopark. Geopark is one of three preservation zones that UNESCO conducts. In this paper I will explain the meaning of a Geopark as well as suggest that one should be set up in Korea. Geotourism is one important aspect of Geopark. Geopark's main purpose is not only for sightseeing but also conservation and understanding the value of nature through geological and geographical features. I have analyzed the local guide's interpretations from a Hongdo Island cruise tour and suggested new way of interpretation for the tour with the concept of Korean Geotourism in mind.

For the study, the villages located around a temple site with special geographic characteristics were chosen. It was analyzed and generalized what kind of social factors were chosen and applied to the design of residential buildings in those villages. The characteristics of the buildings in the villages that have relationships with the temple appeared to be as follows; Financial factor of the temple, rather than religious influences of it, appeared to influence strongly over the forms of building and the spaces of village. The village which formed along a new entrance axis to the temple were transformed to have a spatial organization along with added sightseeing and commercial functions. The villages have different spatial structures depending on their land uses. • Hongdo and Huksando belong to the Dadohae national park parks in Korea and are famous sightseeing spots in Shinahn-gun. One of the keystone species in this area is otter (Lutra lutra). We accomplished field works for finding its present habitat and condition analyses for the potential habitat in the area via spatial analyses with digital elevation model and satellite imagery. Isolated condition with coastal cliffs was one of the superior conditions over habitat in the main land, but the road kills of small animals were also observed. Three underground eco-corridors were suggested for the protection of otter habitat in the Shinahn-gun area. Regional development strategies of Shinahn-gun should be focused on the protection of safe and pristine habitat for otter population.
