A new gas-chromatographic method for determining carbon and hydrogen in organic compounds has been developed. After sample combustion was performed in a regular analytical combustion tube with an internal oxidant (a mixture of silver oxide and manganese dioxide) under a helium flow, the water produced was converted to acetylene by passing through a calcium carbide tube. The carbon dioxide and acetylene were trapped by a molecular sieve 5A column at room temperature. The trapped gases were released under programmed temperature raise up to $340^{\circ}C$ and the released gases were passed through a silica gel column. The adsorption of $CO_2$ and $C_2H_2$ in the molecular sieve 5A trapping column were found to be quantitative and the silica gel column showed an excellent resolution of $CO_2$ and $C_2H_2$ for analytical purpose. The analytical results for various known compounds based on the out-put of the thermal conductivity cell calibrated for the amounts of carbon and hydrogen contents in benzoic acid, showed average errors ${\pm}0.5%$ and ${\pm}0.33%$ for carbon and hydrogen, respectively.
The impact of artefacts in archived wind observations on the design wind speed obtained by extreme value analysis is demonstrated using case studies. A signpost protocol for detecting candidate artefacts is described and its performance assessed by comparing results against previously validated data. The protocol targets artefacts by exploiting the serial correlation between observations. Additional "sieve" algorithms are proposed to identify types of correctable artefact from their "signature" in the data. In extreme value analysis, artefacts displace valid observations only when they are larger, hence always increase the design wind speed. Care must be taken not identify large valid values as artefacts, since their removal will tend to underestimate the design wind speed.
On the constructions of fill type dams, usually the constructions materials is desired to be obtained in vicinity ofthe dam sitc to justify economical feasilblity of the project. In the stability analysis of the dams, core parts takesa small fraction of the slip circle and main function of core is to decrease dam permeability. This paper shows results of various tests as physical properties, compactions (using single, double triple and four times of the tandard compaction energy) and the permeability tests. Single decomposed granite and mixed materials with clay soils were used in this test. And conclusions of these tests are as follows; 1. Criteira of weathering ratio should be caleulated by density measarment. 2. Permeability coefficient maiuly depends on th #200 sieve passing, and also passing soil quantities depends on the weathering condition of the soil. 3. It was established that low weathered decomposed granite can not be used for the core materials of the fill type dams. On the other hand, moderately weathered decomposed granite soil with particles could pass through #200 sieve in a quantity over 10%, could chieve permeability in a magnitude of $1{\times}10^{-5} cm/see$. 4. With the decomposed granite soil it is possible to perform three times larger compaction energy than the standard energy without any problems.

Grain size distributions of sediment samples were analyzed by the different methods, and the results were compared. Reported data of the bottom sediments from the Korean seas show significant deviations among the institutes, and the inter-lab comparison and calibration procedures are considered to be necessary. Grain size data by different methods show different results. Laser diffraction method provides good precision in replicate analysis, but underestimates the amounts of finer (smaller than 2-3 ${\mu}m$) fraction. Data from particle settling method, on the other hand, represent significant errors in the coarse silt (5-6 ${\phi}$) fraction, and slightly overestimate the clay fraction. In the sieve and pipette methods, best results were taken in 0.5 ${\phi}$ interval of analysis. Especially in the coarse silt fraction, pipette analysis is suggested to be made with 0.5 ${\phi}$ interval. During the dry sieving procedure in 1 ${\phi}$ interval, serious errors occur when large amounts of sample materials were concentrated in a particular sieve.
This study was carried out to discuss how soils in the area planned for a forest road construction can be mechanically tested and practically applied. For this, 16 soil test samples from 8 plots(2 samples per plot) were used. The major tests are focused on unit weight before and after cut, water content, liquid and plastic limits, sieve and hydrometer analysis etc. The total unit weight(${\rho}_t$) before and after cut are $1.69g/cm^3$ and $1.19g/cm^3$, respectively. Their water contents are 21.0% and 20.5%. The coefficient of uniformity U and coefficient of curvature C obtained from sieve and hydrometer analysis are 125 and 0.42, which mean generally not well graded. On the soil classification by USCS, SM(silty sand or silt-sand mixed soil)is a Key soil, but it seems to be not good for fill material. From the standard proctor test are resulted $1.40{\pm}0.065g/cm^3$ for the unit weight(${\rho}$) in the nature and $1.88{\pm}0.049g/cm^3$ for the optimum proctor unit weight(${\rho}pr$) each. With this to say, it is necessary more powerful compaction work at earth filling, with which this soil reachs enough the ${\rho}pr$, and more earth.

Diacylglycerol (DAG) were synthesized by enzymatic esterification of glyceryl monooleate (GMO) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in a shaking water bath. The reaction was catalyzed by Lipozyme TLIM (immobilized lipase from Thermomyces lanuginosa). Effects of reaction time, molar ratio, enzyme road and molecular sieves were studied. Results of normal-phase high performance liquid chromatography (NP-HPLC) analysis were performed. At 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1 (GMO : CLA) molar ratio and Lipozyme TLIM of 20% amount, DAG were produced in 42.6, 54.4 and 54.6 area% in 1 hr, respectively. When different Lipozyme TLIM amounts (2, 5, 10, 20%) were used with 2:1 (GMO : CLA) molar ratio, DAG were produced 21.4 (24 hr), 51.7 (12 hr), 56.2 (6 hr) and 54.4 (1 hr) area%, respectively. The reaction in the absence of molecular sieves increased DAG contents. The maximum DAG concentration conditions were obtained with molar ratio of 2:1 (GMO : CLA), lipase concentration of 10% (of substrate), 10% molecular sieves and reaction time of 6 hours at 55$^{\circ}C$. Under this reaction condition, produced DAG-rich oil was composed of 69 area% DAG, 7.9 area% TAG, 2 area% FFA, and 21.1 area% MAG.

Vinyl chloride monomer exists as gas phase at normal temperature and reacts with oxygen and strong oxidant in the air to form oxidized materials. Because of being easily synthesized, it is used as a main source at the synthetic reaction process of PVC synthesis factories. Ministry of Labor regulates its usage as a carcinogen and its exposure level as 1 ppm. But the amount of VCM production in PVC and VCM production process hasn't been exactly estimated. In addition, facilities of this factory are located in outdoor. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate effects of temperature on breakthrough of charcoal tube at a fixed concentration and temperature during VCM sampling based on NIOSH and OSHA methods which were used as methods of occupational environment measuring and analysis. During the sampling of VCM, methods of OSHA and NIOSH require flow rate of 0.05 lpm and sampling volume of $3{\ell}$, $5{\ell}$ respectively, at this time carbon molecular sieve tube and coconut shell charcoal tube are used to observe the breakthrough along with concentration and temperature. As a result, significant difference between average adsorbed amounts of OSHA methods but that of NIOSH methods cannot be found. NIOSH method is likely to be effected by high temperature and normal temperature in high concentration. Breakthrough is not found in the method of OSHA at different conditions of temperature and concentration. As the result of this study we could verify that breakthrough occurred in the process of sampling VCM with NIOSH methods. Therefor in summer time, breakthrough should be considered and research on the breakthrough volume should be done. It is considered the research about the specificity of the coconut shell charcoal and carbon molecular sieve sorbent should be done when sampling VCM in comming days.

Adsorption experiments of carbon dioxide were performed on ZSM5 and Molecular Sieve 13X (MS13X) impregnated with Monoethanol Amine (MEA). Adsorption efficiency of $CO_2$ was investigated in a U type packed column with GC/TCD. The adsorption capacities of adsorbents are estimated in the temperature range of $30-80^{\circ}C$. The modified adsorbents was characterized by BET surface area, $N_2$ adsorption/desorption isotherms, X-ray diffraction and FT-IR. Surface analysis results showed that the impregnation method did not affect the crystallinity of any adsorbents. BET surface area of the MS13X impregnated amine decreased to $19.945m^2/g$ from $718.335m^2/g$. These reults showed that amine molecules were filled with the pore volume in MS13X, as a results restricting access of nitrogen into the pores. The MEA modified MS13X showed improvement in $CO_2$ adsorption capacity over the ZSM5 impregnated with MEA. The MS13X-MEA showed the highest adsorption capacity due to physical adsorption and chemical adsorption by amino-group content. This results also showed that adsorption capacity of MS13X-MEA increases with the temperature range of $60-80^{\circ}C$ compared with pristine MS13X.
Nitrous oxide, which is used as an anesthetic gas, has been shown to be a chronic health hazard. It is necessary to monitor and control the nitrous oxide exposure of the operating theaters staff. In this study, N2O exposure level of the operating nurses is assessed with a GC-ECD. The nitrous oxide gas is collected on a molecular sieve 5A contained in a glass tube and desorbed for 12 hours at $100^{\circ}C$ in heating block. As a result of the test using GC-ECD, calibration curve's $R^2$ of $N_2O$ is 0.9992, LOD is $0.96{\mu}g$/injection, LOQ is $3.21{\mu}g$/injection, desorption efficiency is 94.78 4.50% in average and break through is within 10% compared with the concentration. The average concentration before operation is 5.12ppm and it is 42.3ppm during operation. There are a significant difference showing that the P value is lower than 0.05. Assessing exposure level to nitrous oxide based on nurses' working positions, the exposure levels do not show significant difference( P>0.005). And $N_2O$ in active sampling method is higher than passive sampling method(P<0.05).

Carbon molecular sieve (CMS) membranes were prepared by the pyrolysis of polyvinylpyrrolidone containing polyimide precursors. We have prepared the polymer precursors, pyrolyzed polymer and investigated the effect of pyrolyzing polymer on the characteristics of carbon structures and gas separation properties of the CMS membranes. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed the two-step decomposition of polymer precursor. First decomposition of the pyrolyzing polymer began around $400^{\circ}C$ while carbonizing polymer showed the decomposition around $550^{\circ}C$. The gas permeabilities through the CMS membranes were enhanced by the introduction of the pyrolyzing polymer and decreased with increased final pyrolysis temperature. The CMS membrane pyrolyzed at $550^{\circ}C$. derived from precursor containing 5wt% PVP as a pyrolyzing polymer showed gas permeability for $O_2$ of 808 Barrers [$10^{-10}cm^3 (STP)cm/cm^2scmHg]$ and $O_2/N_2$ selectivity of 7.
