  • The study is to examine the drying shrinkage reducing method of mortar using organic shrinkage reducing agent. According to the experiment result, when 2% and 4% of organic shrinkage reducing agent were added, 40% and 50% of the shrinkage rate of mortar were obtained. Also, in the cracking test of plate-shape specimen, the usage of shrinkage agent 2% reduced about 60% of the total cracking length compare to total cracking length the usage of portland cement, the usage of shrinkage agent 4% was not happened crack until 90 days. Accordingly, the usage of shrinkage agent show good effect in prevention of crack.

  • Fly ash is the most common artificial pozzolan, which is a material precipitated electrostatically from the exhaust gases of coal-fired power stations. Fly ash can be used as the supplementary material as well as the material for high performance concrete and hence, the development of high-volume fly ash concrete is imperative. In this study, the characteristics of drying shrinkage of high volume fly ash concrete is investigated. It is found from test results that as the replaced amount of fly ash in concrete is increased, drying shrinkage of concrete is reduced.

  • The heating system of korea apartment house is called Ondol. The surface finishing mortar of this floor system typically used the cement based mortar, where the surface finishing mortar easily appears the crack. To order to crack control, the cement that added expansive additive used to reducing dry-shrinkage. For the surface finishing mortar, the types of shrinkage is known as plastic shrinkage, dry-shrinkage and autogenous This experimental study is to investigate the difference on dry-shrinkage of the cement that added expansive additives and OPC. The test method is varied the ration of water/cement (W/C) and the ratio of sand/cement(S/C). For OPC, The increase of the ratio of S/C is reduced dry-shirnkage but for the cement that added expansive additives, the increase of the ratio of S/C is augmented dry-shrinkage For OPC, The increase of the ratio of W/C is augmented dry-shrinkage but for the cement that added expensive, the increased of the ratio of W/C is reduced dry-shrinkage.

  • In this study, the shrinkage properties of concrete with the high-performance shrinkage admixture and the crack reinforcing materials applied to the high-flatness flooring of hypermarkets, outlets and warehouses was evaluated. The concrete with the popular shrinkage admixture is significantly reduced compared to the plain concrete without shrinkage admixture for the dry shrinkage deformation, and the difference of shrinkage ratio between the concretes has been shown to increase with increasing age.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a reference for an extensive evaluation about effectiveness of four types of fibers to control plastic shrinkage crack of concrete. So in this study for the practical use in construction field, the plastic shrinkage cracks shown from four types of concrete reinforced by mixing four types of fibers are quantitatively evaluated in points of the workability and compressive strength. Test showed that the mixing of Cl, N, P fibers except for C2 fibers decreased fluidity of fresh concrete. Compressive strengths of four types specimens were similar. Plastic shrinkage cracks were reduced by mixing each fiber, especially C2 fibers was very effective to prevent the plastic shrinkage crack. Therefore the reinforced concrete mixed with C2 fibers exhibited superior mechanical performance than the others.

  • Drying shrinkage cracking which may be caused by the relatively large specific surface is a matter of grave concern for latex modified concrete(LMC) overlay and rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) overlay. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to study the drying shrinkage properties of LMC and RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid setting cement), latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%), W-C ratios, and curing days at a same controlled environment of 60% of relative humidity and $20^{\circ}C$ of temperature. Test results revealed that the drying shrinkage of latex modified concrete(LMC), rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) was considerably lower than that of ordinary portland cement concrete(OPC), rapid-setting cement concrete(RSC), respectively. This may be attributed to the interlocking of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, water retention due to hydrophobic and colloidal properties of the latexes, resulting in reduced water evaporation.

  • Drying shrinkage cracking which may be caused by the relatively large specific surface is a matter of grave concern for latex modified concrete(LMC) overlay and rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) overlay. LMC and RSLMC were studied for field applications very actively in terms of strength and durability in Korea. However, there were no considerations in drying shrinkage. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the drying shrinkage properties of LMC and RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid setting cement), latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%), W-C ratios, and curing days at a controlled environment of 60% of relative humidity and 2$0^{\circ}C$ of temperature. The drying shrinkage for specimens was measured with a digital dial gauge of Demec. The test results showed that the drying shrinkage of LMC and RSLMC were considerably lower than that of OPC and RSC, respectively. This might be attributed to the interlocking of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, water retention due to hydrophobic, and colloidal properties of the latexes resulting in reduced water evaporation.

  • Generally, high performance concrete has characteristics such as low water-cementitous material ratio, lots of unit binder powder, thus the drying shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage are tend to be increased. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the glyclos based shrinkage reducing agent on the drying shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete with 30% of water-cemetitious material ratio as a study to develop the technology to reduce the concrete shrinkage. Test results show that the drying and autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete are reduced by about 20~35% at the mixing ratio of shrinkage reducing agent of 0.5%, and 1.0%, compared with plain concrete. Therefore, it analyze that the using of shrinkage reducing agent is effective to reduce the drying shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete.

  • Recently, very-early strength latex-modified concrete(below ; VES-LMC) has been developed for repairing and overlaying the old concrete bridge deck. VES-LMC provides the advantage of very-early-strength, as well as high flexural strength, bond strength, durability, resistance to corrosion, reduced water permeability and resistance to damage from freeze-thaw cycles. The compressive and flexural strength of VES-LMC are 21 MPa and 4.5 MPa at 3 hours after concrete placing, respectively. However, VES-LMC would have a relatively large shrinkage at early-age because of reduced water-cement ratio, big water self-dissipation, and rapid hydration reaction. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the early-age and restrained shrinkage of VES-LMC, having an experimental variables such as latex contents and cement types. The latex contents included 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%, and the cement types included ordinary portland cement and very-early strength cement.

  • Slag cement or ternary blended cement is mainly used for non-structural lean concrete for the purpose of foundation work or protection of the waterproof layer on the roof of buildings. However, such non-structural lean concrete has a lot of drying shrinkage cracks, which makes it difficult to maintain the quality of the structure. Therefore, in this study, the compressive strength and the drying shrinkage of ternary blended cement(blended of portland cement, blast furnace slag, fly ash from combined heat and power Plant) for non-structural lean concrete were examined. As a result, it was confirmed that this non-structural lean concrete reduced drying shrinkage compared to the conventional ternary blended cement using fly ash from power plant.
