As the number of high-density videos increase, parallel processing approaches are necessary to process a large-scale of video data. When a processing method of video data requires thousands of simple operations, GPU-based parallel processing is preferred to CPU-based parallel processing by way of reducing the time and space complexities of a given computation problem. This paper studies the parallel design and implementation of a shot-boundary detection algorithm. The proposed shot-boundary detection algorithm uses pixel brightness comparisons and global histogram data among the blocks of frames, and the computation of these data is characterized with the high parallelism for the related operations. In order to maximize these operations in parallel, the computations of the pixel brightness and histogram are designed in parallel and implemented in NVIDIA GPU. The GPU-based shot detection method is tested with 10 videos from the set of videos in National Archive of Korea. In experiments, the detection rate is similar but the computation time is about 10 time faster to that of the CPU-based algorithm.

Shot boundary detection is an essential step for efficient browsing, sorting, and classification of video data. Robust shot detection method should overcome the disturbances caused by pixel brightness and object movement between frames. In this paper, two shot boundary detection methods are presented to address these problem by using segmentation, object movement, and pixel brightness. The first method is based on the histogram that reflects object movements and the morphological dilation operation that considers pixel brightness. The second method uses the pixel brightness information of segmented and whole blocks between frames. Experiments on digitized video data of National Archive of Korea show that the proposed methods outperforms the existing pixel-based and histogram-based methods.

In the design of scramjet intake for hypersonic flight, a variety of aerothermodynamics phenomena are encountered. These phenomena include blunt leading - edge effects, boundary layer development issues, transition, inviscid / viscous coupling, shock - shock interactions, shock / boundary - layer interactions, and flow profile effects. For intakes that are designed to operate within a narrow Mach number / altitude envelope, an understanding of a few of these phenomena might be required. In this work several predominant flowfield phenomena (viscous phenomena, boundary - layer separation, and combustor entrance profile) are discussed to investigate the performance of the intake at the altitude and angle of attack extremes of the HyShot flight experiment.
Recent works regarding video shot change detection algorithms show that abrupt shot changes are detected fairly well. However, gradual shot changes including wipes and dissolves are often missed or falsely detected. A robust shot change detection system, therefore, must include a shot verification step to further enhance the overall system performance. In this paper, we introduce the concept of the visual rhythm which is a single image, a subsampled version of a full video. On the visual rhythm, the different video edit effects such as cuts, wipes and dissolves manifest themselves as different patterns. Using this characteristic, it becomes possible, without sequentially playing the entire video, to find false positive shots as well as undetected shots. Thus, inclusion of the visual rhythm in the shot boundary verification process will aid the operator to exclude falsely detected shots as well as to find undetected shots fast and efficiently. For this purpose we have developed a new tool, a shot verifier incorporating the visual rhythm. The usefulness of the visual rhythm during the shot verification process will be presented.

This paper proposes a method to detect scene change using global decision tree that extract boundary cut that have width of big change that happen by camera brake from difference value of frames. First, calculate frame difference value through regional X2-histogram and normalization, next, calculate distance between difference value using normalization. Shot boundary detection is performed by compare global threshold distance with distance value for two adjacent frames that calculating global threshold distance based on distance between calculated difference value. Global decision tree proposed this paper can detect easily sudden scene change such as motion from object or camera and flashlight.
Video indexing plays an important role in the applications such as digital video libraries or web VOD which archive large volume of digital videos. Video indexing is usually based on video segmentation. In this paper, we propose a software tool called V2Web Studio which can generate video clips utilizing shot boundary detection algorithm. With the V2Web Studio, the process of clip generation consists of the following four steps: 1) Automatic detection of shot boundaries by parsing the video, 2) Elimination of errors by manually verifying the results of the detection, 3) Building a modeling structure of logical hierarchy using the verified shots, and 4) Generating multiple video clips corresponding to each logically modeled segment. The aforementioned steps are performed by shot detector, shot verifier, video modeler and clip generator in the V2Web Studio respectively.
In this paper, we propose the comparison method of pattern similarity for video segmentation algorithm. The shot boundary type is categorized as 2 types, abrupt change and gradual change. The representative examples of gradual change are dissolve, fade-in, fade-out or wipe transition. The proposed method consider the problem to detect shot boundary as 2-class problem. We concentrated if the shot boundary event happens or not. It is essential to define similarity between frames for shot boundary detection. We proposed 2 similarity measures, within similarity and between similarity. The within similarity is defined by feature comparison between frames belong to same shot. The between similarity is defined by feature comparison between frames belong to different scene. Finally we calculated the statistical patterns comparison between the within similarity and between similarity. Because this measure is robust to flash light or object movement, our proposed algorithm make contribution towards reducing false positive rate. We employed color histogram and mean of sub-block on frame image as frame feature. We performed the experimental evaluation with video dataset including set of TREC-2001 and TREC-2002. The proposed algorithm shows the performance, 91.84% recall and 86.43% precision in experimental circumstance.
In this paper, we propose a new shot boundary detection method which is optimized for news video story parsing. This new news shot boundary detection method was designed to satisfy all the following requirements: 1) minimizing the incorrect data in data set for anchor shot detection by improving the recall ratio 2) detecting abrupt cuts and gradual transitions with one single algorithm so as to divide news video into shots with one scan of data set; 3) classifying shots into static or dynamic, therefore, reducing the search space for the subsequent stage of anchor shot detection. The proposed method, based on singular value decomposition with incremental clustering and mercer kernel, has additional desirable features. Applying singular value decomposition, the noise or trivial variations in the video sequence are removed. Therefore, the separability is improved. Mercer kernel improves the possibility of detection of shots which is not separable in input space by mapping data to high dimensional feature space. The experimental results illustrated the superiority of the proposed method with respect to recall criteria and search space reduction for anchor shot detection.
Since video is composed of unstructured data with massive storage and linear forms, it is essential to conduct various research studies to provide the required contents for users who are accustomed to dealing with standardized data such as documents and images. Previous studies have shown the occurrence of undetected and false detected shots. This thesis suggested shot verification and video retrieval system using visual rhythm to reduce these kinds of errors. First, the system suggested in this paper is designed to detect the parts easily and quickly, which are assumed as shot boundaries, just by changing the visual rhythm without playing the image. Therefore, this enables to delete the false detected shot and to generate the unidentified shot and key frame. The following are the summaries of the research results of this study. Second, during the retrieving process, a thumbnail and keyword method of inquiry is possible and the user is able to put some more priorities on one part than the other between the color and shape. As a result, the corresponding shot or scene is displayed. However, in the case of not finding the preferred shot, the key picture frame of similar shot is supplied and can be used in the further inquiry of the next scene.
Recently, the importance of pre-shipment quality inspection has been emphasized due to the increase of STB supply. In this paper, we propose a method to support automation of quality inspection through simultaneous multi-channel input of STB video signal. The proposed method extracts a fingerprint using the center scan line of the image after stable video shot boundary detection using CeLDP combining color information and LDP code and performs synchronization between input video channels. The proposed method shows stronger shot boundary detection performance than the conventional shot detection method. Through the experiments applied to the real environment, it is possible to secure reliability and real-time quality check for synchronization between multi-channel inputs required for STB quality inspection. Also, based on the proposed method, we intend to study a large-scale quality inspection method in the future and propose a more effective quality inspection system.
