  • Mega-shock means a sporadic event such as the earning shock, which occurred by sudden market changes, and it can cause serious problems of profit loss of international construction projects. Therefore, the early response and prevention by analyzing and predicting the Mega-shock is critical for successful project delivery. This research is preliminary study to develop a prediction model that supports market condition analysis and Mega-shock forecasting. To avoid disadvantages of classic statistical approaches that assume the market factors are linear and independent and thus have limitations to explain complex interrelationship among a range of international market factors, the research team explored the Fractal Theory that can explain self-similarity and recursiveness of construction market changes. The research first found out correlation of the major market factors by statistically analyzing time-series data. The research then conducted a base of the Fractal analysis to distinguish features of fractal from data. The outcome will have potential to contribute to building up a foundation of the early shock warning system for the strategic international project management.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to provide basic data for the development of clinical practice-related education program by analyzing the effects of grit, job satisfaction, and retention intention on transition shock of new dental hygienists. Methods: From April 19 to July 4, 2022, the data was collected from 200 new dental hygienists working for dental hospitals/clinics. Using the SPSS Statistics ver. 22.0, this study was conducted the t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: There were positive correlations between grit, job satisfaction, and retention intention, a negative correlation between grit and transition shock, a positive correlation between job satisfaction and retention intention, a negative correlation between job satisfaction and transition shock. and a negative correlation between retention intention and transition shock. As the factors affecting transition shock, lower pay and main performance of medical cooperation work increased transition shock. When job satisfaction and retention intention were higher, transition shock decreased. Conclusions: In order to reduce transition shock of new dental hygienists, it would be necessary to operate clinical practice-related training program, and also to establish a training environment similar to the clinical site/context/situation similar to clinical context/situation.

  • The hypersonic flow on the stagnation streamline of a blunt body is analyzed with quasi one-dimensional (1-D) Navier-Stokes equations approximated by adopting the local similarity to the two-dimensional (2-D)/axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations. The governing equations are solved using the implicit finite volume method. The computational domain is confined from the stagnation point to the shock wave, and the shock fitting method is used to find the shock position. We propose a boundary condition at the shock, which employs the shock wave angle in the vicinity of the stagnation streamline using the shock shape correlation. As a result of numerical computation conducted for the hypersonic flow over a sphere, the proposed boundary condition is shown to improve the accuracy of the prediction of the shock standoff distance. The quasi 1-D Navier-Stokes code is efficient in computing time and is reliable for the flow analysis along the stagnation streamline and the prediction of heat flux at the stagnation point in the hypersonic blunt body flow.

  • This research demonstrates the shock response analysis of a head disk assembly subjected to a half-sine shock pulse in the axial direction. In case of disk analysis, the numerical method presented by Barasch and Chen is used. Galerkin method is used with mode shape by numerical method. Head-suspension system is modeled as the cantilever in order to get simulation results. Simulation results of HDA are calculated by Runge-Kutta method. Finally, shock responses of head and disk are analyzed according to the change of the rotating speed of the disk.

  • There is an increasing need for large flat panel display devices. PDP (Plasma Display Panel) is one of the most promising candidates for this need. Thermal shock failure of PDP glass during manufacturing process is a critical issue in PDP industry since it is closely related to the product yield and the production speed. In this study, thermal shock resistance of PDP glass is measured by water quenching test and an analysis scheme is described for estimating transient temperature and stress distributions during thermal shock. Based on the experimental data and the analysis results, a simple procedure for predicting the thermal shock failure of PDP glass is proposed. The fast cooling process for heated glass plates can accelerate the speed of PDP production, but often leads to thermal shock failure of the glass plates. Therefore, a design guideline for preventing the failure is presented from a viewpoint of high speed PDP manufacturing process. This design guideline can be used for PDP process design and thermal -shock failure prevention.

  • Two-dimensional Navier-Stokes codes are used to simulate the shock tunnel in Konkuk university. In order to design experiments in impulse facilities properly and to interpret data from such facilities, it is necessary to understand how the flow approaches steady state. This is done by determining the transient flow field and flow establishment time around a given model. This will be accomplished by developing appropriate CFD codes which solve the Navier-Stokes equations, and simulating the starting process and resulting unsteady viscous flow phenomena. The starting process in a shock tunnel consists of multiple shock interactions and contact discontinuities, which are difficult to solve with the classical shock capturing schemes. A recently developed high resolution scheme is adapted for resolving the unsteady phenomena of those multiple shock interactions and contact surfaces during the starting process. The bifurcation phenomenon due to the interactions of the reflected shock from the end of the shock tube with the boundary layer generated by the incident shock becomes of particular interest. By comparing with the experiment results, the accuracy of the numerical analysis is validated and it is demonstrated that the properties which can hardly be obtained through the experiment can be estimated.

  • The development of a vehicle-mounted radar to detect the location of enemy artillery is mainly mounted during operation to the mobility of the equipment and efficiency of utilization range. It is equipped with an electronic device responsible for the operation of the radar system. Electronic equipments is performed functionality imparted without an error-specific in spite of disturbances such as vibration / shock caused by vehicle movement. Therefore, vibration / shock resistance is held to prevent damaging from vibration / shock generated from the outside environment during operation. In addition, a standardized and specified cabinet structure equipped with electronic equipment is placed in shelter to ensure additional safety for vibration / shock. In this study, it is evaluated by analytical method with vibration / shock resistance of the cabinet structures for ensuring structural safety factor is applied to the aluminum. • Mobile devices have become an important part of daily life. This is especially true of laptop PCs, which are portable enough to be used almost anywhere. Laptop PCs, however, cannot be nomadic if each component is not robust enough to endure rugged laptop operating environment. Generally, external shock makes collision on head-disk interface and damage to read-write performance. To minimize the likelihood of failure, shock analysis must be incorporated into the design of hard disk drive in laptop. This research explores the structure modification of laptop HDD base, for improving shock performance using finite element analysis which considers the flexibility of whole HDD structure. FE model is verified by modal test and finely tuned. Then we obtained the transmitted acceleration of spindle and pivot and the relative displacement between disk and slider head as shock response. Based on shock simulation, the structural dynamics modification is performed and the primary design parameters are extracted.

  • SIL-based optical disk drive will be promising candidate of next-generation storage devices. However, a near-field optical disk drive requires the robustness to external shock because of extremely small gap between SIL and media. Especially, high-level shock damages permanently to SIL and it makes difficulties in general application. To study the likelihood of failure, the shock analysis must be performed over all others. This research explores the dynamic characteristics of rotating disk through FEM which is compared to analytical solution and experimental modal analysis. We also develop the finite element model of an optical disk drive, which includes rubber mounts, sled base, rotating disk and pickup assembly, and simulate the shock response.
