  • The sheath of a single-conductor cable for ac service acts as a secondary of a transformer, the current in the conductor induces a voltage in the sheath. When the sheaths of single-conductor cables are bonded to each other, as is common practice for multi-conductor cables, the induced voltage causes current to flow in the completed circuit. This current causes losses in the sheath. Various methods of bonding may be used for the purpose of minimizing sheath losses. In korea, sheath cross bonding system was employed for the prevention of sheath losses, the sheaths wire subjected to at voltages, and the bonding was designed to keep the magnitude of the induced voltages within small limits so as to prevent the possibility of sheath corrosion. But, sheath cross bonding system without transposition of cable can not achieve an exact balance of induced sheath voltages unless the cables are lain in trefoil. This paper describes a transposition system with sheath cross bonding using EMTP(Electromagnetic Transient Program). The transposition system with cross bonding can be extended to longer cable circuits for laid in flat as wall as trefoil by the methods described in this paper.

  • This paper describes sheath voltage limiter(SVL) transient characteristics by switching overvoltage considering single point bonding in underground transmission cables. The crossbonding system is generally used for grounding methods of underground transmission system. However, the single point bonding system is used in selective area which is difficult to consist of crossbonding major section. The sheath voltage limiters are connected between joints in the single point bonding. Specially, the high overvoltage might be generated in that section as well as the aging of sheath voltage limiter might be progressed by various electrical stress including lightning overvoltage, switching overvoltage and power frequency overvoltage. Therefore, in this paper, the switching overvoltage characteristics in underground cables are firstly analysed using EMTP simulation. Then, the switching overvoltage of sheath voltage limiter is also studied in single point bonding. Finally, the reduction method of sheath voltage limiter switching overvoltage is proposed by various simulation studies including circuit breaker operating order.

  • The purpose of this study is to prepare the hardness of polyester(PET) fabric by thermal bonding with low melting component of bicomponent fiber and to describe the change of physical properties of thermal bonded PET fabrics. The PET fabrics were prepared with regular PET fiber as warp and bicomponent fiber as weft. The bicomponent fiber of sheath-core type were composed with a regular PET core and low melting PET sheath. The thermal bonding of PET fabric was carried out in pin tenter from 120 to $195^{\circ}C$ temperature range for 60 seconds. In this study, we investigated the physical properties and melting behavior of PET fiber and the effect of the temperature of the pin tenter on the thermal bonding, mechanical properties. Melting peak of warp showed the thermal behavior of general PET fiber. However, melting peak of weft fiber(bicomponent fiber) showed the double melting peak. The thermal bonding of the PET fabric formed at about temperature of lower melting peak. The optimum thermal bonding conditions for PET fabrics was applied at $190{\sim}195^{\circ}C$ for 60seconds by pin tenter. On the other hand, the tensile strength of the PET fabric decreased with an increasing temperature of thermal bonding.

  • In underground power cable system, the device for limiting over-voltage is needed when transient over-voltage break out between sheath and ground. For this reason, the SVL(Sheath Voltage Limiter) has been applied on weak points. But the broken SVLs which are installed on the single point bonding system on underground cable are frequently found. In this paper, EMTP(Electromagnetic Transient Program) is utilized to analyze effects on the installation methodology of the parallel ground conductor and SVL for the single point bonding system on the underground cable. The result shows that the proposed installation methodology can be applied for single point bonding system and contribute for power system stabilization.

  • The power system analysis based on the accurate impedance of the individual underground cable, which is the inter connected to a large power system, is required. A study on calculation method of impedance allowable current for underground cables. furthermore, various methods of bonding and earthing the sheath have been used for the purpose of eliminating or reducing the sheath losses. the effectes of bonding and earthing must be includied in impedances. therefore, the subject of predicting thermal performance of soil and cable systems has been received increasing attension. for these problems, this paper describes a general formulation of impedance that is based on the effect of crossbonding and earthing of the sheath on the 66kV, 132kV and 220kV underground cable systems. also the work is presented, for calculating the temperature rise of power cable and soil.

The PET fabrics were prepared with regular PET fiber as warp and bicomponent fiber as weft. The bicomponent fiber of sheath-core type was composed with a regular PET core and low melting PET sheath. The thermal bonding of PET fabric was carried out in pin tenter($195^{\circ}C$) for 60 seconds. In this study, we investigated the dye ability and fastness of the dyed PET fabric. Dye ability of E-type dyestuff is higher than S-type dyestuff. In the case of E- type dyestuff, the saturated dyeing time was 10minutes at $130^{\circ}C$. The washing fastness and light fastness were excellent as 4-5grade.

  • An aluminum powder compact consolidated by a powder-in sheath rolling (PSR) method was severely deformed by accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) process. The ARB process was performed up to 8 cycles at ambient temperature without lubrication. Optical microscope and transmission electron microscope observations revealed that microstructure of the ARB-processed Al powder compact is inhomogeneous in the thickness direction. The ultra-fine subgrains often reported in the ARB-processed bulky materials were also developed near surface of the Al powder compacts in this study. Tensile strength of the ARB-processed Al powder compact increased at the 1st cycle, but from the 2nd cycle it rather decreased slightly.

  • Power system fault analysis is commonly based on well-known symmetrical component method, which describes power system elements by positive, negative and zero sequence impedance. The majority of fault in transmission lines is unbalanced fault, such as line-to-ground faults, so that both positive and zero sequence impedance is required for fault analysis. When unbalanced fault occurs, zero sequence current flows through earth and ground wires in overhead transmission systems and through cable sheaths and earth in underground transmission systems. Since zero sequence current distribution between cable sheath and earth is dependent on both sheath bondings and grounding configurations, care must be taken to calculate zero sequence impedance of underground cable transmission lines. In this paper, EMTP-based sequence impedance calculation method was described and applied to 345kV cable transmission systems. Calculation results showed that detailed circuit analysis is desirable to avoid possible errors of sequence impedance calculation resulted from various configuration of cable sheath bonding and grounding in underground cable transmission systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to fabricate the flame retardant polyester fabric by thermal bonding with low melting component of flame retardant bicomponent filament(LMFRPC) and to describe the characteristics of thermal bonded fabrics. The fabrics were prepared with flame retardant polyester filaments(FRP) as warp and blended filaments of FRP and LMFRPC as weft. The LMFRPC have a sheath and a core wherein the core comprises a flame retardant polyester and the sheath comprises a thermoplastic polyester of low-melting point. In this study, we investigated the physical properties, melting behavior of filament, the effect of the component of FRP and LMFRPC on the thermal bonding, mechanical properties. Melting peak of LMFRPC showed the double melting peak. The thermal bonding of the fabric formed at lower melting peak temperature of bicomponent filament of LMFRPC. The optimum thermal bonding conditions for fabrics was applied at about $170^{\circ}C$ for 60 seconds by pin tenter. On the other hand, the tensile strength, elongation, and LOI of the fabric increased with an increasing component of FRP of weft.
