To improve a low-salted yacon pickle, the change of quality characteristics during the storage of yacon pickles were investigated at $18^{\circ}C$ for 50 days using two-way ANOVA. One factor that was added was the leaf-mustard and pepper (A), the other was storage time (B). The leaf-mustard and pepper were added to increase the yacon pickle's taste, flavor, and properties. The sugar content, total acidity and salinity were significant for factor A and B. With the interaction effect of the two factors, yacon pickles increased as storage time increased. The L value was not significant for factor A but significant for factor B. The a and b values were significant for the two factors. All Hunter's color value had the interaction effect. The shearing force was not significant for each factor, and yacon pickles did not show a softening effect. In the results of the sensory evaluation, color, taste, and overall preference were significant for factor A and B, yet the flavor was only significant for factor B. The texture was not significant at all. In the overall preference, yacon pickles were higher at 30 and 40 days and also, had the interaction effect. Yacon pickles were not above the 3.0% of salinity.
The effects of various All-Etching Agents (10% phosphoric acid, 10% maleic acid and 10 % citric acid) and 32 % phosphoric acid and varied etching time were evaluated by observing the morphology of the etched enamel surfaces using Scanning electron microscopy and by measuring the shear bond strength of a composite resin to human enamel. A total of 156 extracted premolar and molar teeth free of irregularities were employed in this study. Specimens for the observation of enamel morphology were divided into 12 groups of 3 teeth each, based on the type of etchant used and application time. After exposure to the etching agent specimens were washed air-dried and then glued to aluminum stubs and coated with a layer of gold for examination in the scanning electron microscope. Specimens for the evaluation of bond strength were divided into 12 groups of 10 teeth each also based on the type of etchant used and application time. After exposure to the etching agent the specimens were washed, air-dried and a thin layer of bonding agent was applied using a brush. Z 100 composite resin was light cured to the surface and stored at $37^{\circ}C$, 100% humidity for 7 days. An Instron Universal Testing Machine was used to apply a shearing force at $90^{\circ}$ angle from the enamel surface. It is concluded from this study that commercial All-etching agents can be used with a 15-second etching without adversely affecting retention of dental resin materials. At the same time, the acid concentration is probably a suitable compromise regarding the acid's function as a dentin demineralizing all-etch conditioning agent. The following results were obtained. 1. Specimens etched with 10 % citric acid showed a random superficial etching pattern which could not be related to prism morphology. 2. Specimens etched with 10 % and 32 % phosphoric acid and 10 % maleic acid showed a type I pattern in which core material was preferentially removed leaving the prism peripheries relatively intact or a type II pattern in which prism peripheries were preferentially removed. This delineation became more distinguished as etching time was increased. 3. All-Etching Agents and 32 % phosphoric acid showed a statistically significant higher shear bond strength at 15 seconds etching time.(p<0.05) 4. 10 % maleic acid and 32 % phosphoric acid exhibited a statistically significant higher shear bond strength than 10 % phosphoric and citric acid at 15 seconds etching time.(p<0.05).
When an off-road tracked vehicle travels, an engine thrust that is transmitted to the continuous track induces a shearing action on the soil-track interface. Consequently, the relative displacement known as slip displacement takes place on the soil-track interface, which develops an associated soil thrust acting as a traction force. For the loose or soft ground conditions, an excessively large slip displacement can be required for the development of the desired soil thrust which will make the tracked vehicle mobile and therefore the outer surface of the continuous track is generally designed to protrude with grousers. This paper fundamentally studied the effect of grousers on the soil thrust of off-road tracked vehicles. Based on the soil-track interaction theory, a new soil thrust assessment method that properly takes into account the effect of grousers was developed. Also, the soil thrust of off-road tracked vehicles equipped with a number of grousers was evaluated using the developed assessment method. The results showed that grousers increased the soil thrust of the continuous track, enhancing the overall tractive performance of off-road tracked vehicles. These effects were more obvious as the height of grouser increased and the spacing of grouser decreased; thus, it is concluded that the grouser which has smaller shape ratio (span of the grouser to a grouser height) significantly enhances off-road tracked vehicle's performance.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in the quality characteristics of mackerel fish fillet under freezing storage conditions. The changes in product quality were determined by measuring pH, volatile basic nitrogen (VBN); thiobarbituric acid (TBA), lightness ($L^*$), redness ($a^*$), yellowness ($b^*$) values, shearing force, and microbiological evaluation (Total Plate Count, TPC) during 21 days of storage at -20, -5, and $-1^{\circ}C$, and their shelf-lives were established. TPC as an effective quality indicator was used to estimate the shelf-life via linear regression analysis. The TPC increased steadily with increasing storage periods at every temperature (p<0.05) and showed a significant relationship with temperature at $-1^{\circ}C$ (r=0.949), $-5^{\circ}C$ (r=0.919), and $-20^{\circ}C$ (r=0.905). Therefore, based on TPC, the shelf life of the mackerel fillet was noted to be 32 days when stored at $-1^{\circ}C$, more than 51 days when stored at $-5^{\circ}C$, and about 2 months when stored at $-20^{\circ}C$.
Soil washing techniques coupled with high pressure air jet were applied for diesel-contaminated soils sampled by an underground oil reservoir of which the initial total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) ($2,828{\pm}206\;mg/kg$) exceeded 5 times of current standard level (500 mg/kg) regulated by the Soil-Environment Conservation Law. Through several tests, we found that the position of impeller has a critical impact for washing efficiencies. The highest washing efficiency was obtained at an oblique angle (30 degree) for the impeller and optimized mixing speed (300 rpm) that could have high shearing forces. Considered economical and feasible aspects, the optimum mixing time was 10 min. Rate constants of TPH removal derived from the first-order equation were not linearly increased as mixing speed increased, indicating that mechanical mixing has some limits to enhance the washing efficiencies. Application of high-pressure air jet in washing process increased the washing efficiency. This increase might be caused by the fact that the surface of micro-air bubbles strongly attached hydrophobic matters of soil particles. As the pressure of air jet increased, the separation efficiencies of TPH-contaminated soil particles increased. In the combined process of high-pressure air jet and mixing by impeller, the optimum mixing speed and air flow-rate were determined to be 60 rpm and $2\;kg/cm^2$, respectively. Consequently, the washing technique coupled with high-pressure air jet could be considered as a feasible application for remediating petroleum-contaminated soils.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of exogenous emulsifier supplementation on growth performance, energy digestibility, and meat quality in broilers. A total of 60 Ross 308 broilers were treated for two weeks. The three dietary treatments were: (CON) basal diet; (T1) basal diet + 0.1% exogenous emulsifier, and (T2) basal diet + 0.2% exogenous emulsifier. In Period 1 (0-7 days), broilers in the T2 group showed significantly higher body weight gain (BWG) (p < 0.05) and broilers in the T1 and T2 treatment groups had significantly lower feed conversion ratios (FCR) (p < 0.05). In Period 2 (8-14 days), broilers in the T2 treatment group had significantly higher feed intake (FI) (p < 0.05). Therefore, in this experiment (from days 0 to 19), BWG and FCR were affected (p < 0.05) by the T1 and T2 treatments. Additionally, the T1 and T2 treatments with added exogenous emulsifier in the broiler feed showed significantly higher energy digestibility (p < 0.05) than the CON treatment. Broilers fed the T2 diet had higher water-holding capacity (WHC) (p < 0.05) and cooking loss than the broilers fed the CON and T1 diets. Moreover, the shearing force in the meat was decreased (p < 0.05) in broilers fed the T2 diet. In conclusion, supplementation with exogenous emulsifier to broiler diets improved growth performance, energy digestibility, and meat quality. The optimal amount of exogenous emulsifier supplementation requires further investigation.
A TSL (Thin Spray-on Liner) has a higher initial strength and faster construction time than conventional cementitious shotcrete. Because of its high adhesion and tensile strength, the TSL reinforced concrete show a characteristic like composite materials. In this study, to consider an application to the conventional design method, ASD (allowable stress design), numerical study was used. In the numerical analysis, material and contact properties were adopt from previous studies. Then a thickness of concrete in the tunnel was evaluated with the TSL reinforced case by the ASD concept. In other words, bending compressive stress, bending tensile stress and shearing force of the concrete were considered to determine a thickness of concrete lining by the given boundary conditions. From the numerical analysis, there was no tendency to show by the ASD because the ASD is based on the elastic theory while the TSL typically contributes to reinforcement after yielding.

In metal cutting the shape of generated chip varies according to cutting conditions, characteristics of workpiece and geometry of cutting tool. The best surface roughness of machined workpiece is obtained when generating flow type contrinuous chip. If the generated chip is not broken, that is not only tangled workpiece and cutting tool, but also may give damage on the machined surface of workpiece or danger for a operator. The flow type continuous chip may bring the low productivity in high speed any heavy cutting, automatic machining process and non-human factory. There are two type of chip break process ; controlling cutting condition and using chip breaker. In present study we carried out the experiment on new type chip breaker compared with conventional type and proved the efficiency of a new type and showed the chip break condition to be applied in actual metal cutting. In the experiment SM 20 C as a workpiece material and WC as a tool material were used and cutting speed of 30-150m/min, feed of 0.071-0.210mm/rev and depth of cut of 1mm were applied as cutting condition. The results of the experiment are as follows : (1) The mechanism of chip curl can be explained more clearly by plastic flow of workpiece material and moment of shearing force. (2) The most effective radius of curled chip and flat distance from cutting edge is 2.0-2.5mm and 1.5mm in both types. (3) The effective inclination angle of chip break surface and side cutting edge angle are 30.deg.- 45.deg. and 20.deg. in conventional type, while the radius of arc surface, lower arc angle A, upper arc angle B and side cutting edge angle are 3mm, 20.deg.- 45.deg., 0.deg.- 45.deg. and 10.deg.- 20.deg. in new type. (4) The probability to be obtained 100% chip breaking ratio is much higher in new type than in conventional type.
The purpose of this study was to compare in vitro shear bonding strength with three different enamel surface preparations (1) 30% sulfated polyacrylic acid with 0.3M lithium sulfate (2) 40% sulfated polyacrylic acid with 0.3M lithium sulfate (3) 37% phosphoric acid. 105 extracted human premolar teeth were divided into each three groups of 35. Metal brackets were bonded to teeth in the three groups. The same self curing resin was used for all groups. A shearing force was applied to the teeth. After debonding, bases of bracket and enamel surfaces were examined under steroscopic microscope to determine the failure modes. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out with one way ANOVA and Student t- test. The results were as follows. 1. Shear bond strength values for the 30% polyacrylic acid and 40% polyacrylic acid group were approximately two thirds of the phosphoric acid group. It maintains clinically acceptable but not enough bond strength. 2. There was no statistically significant difference in shear bond strengths between 30% and 40% polyacrylic acid group. 3. The failure modes of brackets had some differences. In polyacrylic acid groups, the percentage of adhesive/enamel failure was higher than that of adhesive/ bracket interface failure. On the contrary in phosphoric acid groups, the results were reversed. Further study of bond strength could be required. If polyacrylic acid enamel conditioning is used clinically.

The authors propose to use the slot system in order to improve of the efficiency for the cambered otter boards. The experiment is divided into 2 parts, one is the efficiency model test, and the other is the visualization model test. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the model otter boards were tested by efficiency model test to measure the shearing, drag force of the models and visualization test using hydrogen bubble method to observe the streak-line and time-line of flow around the models, and milk spout method to observe the separation zone in the wake behind the models. This study tested for 5 models such ad without slot, slot position 0.2C, 0.4C, 0.6C and 0.8C. The results obtained are as follows: \circled1 The maximum C sub(L) of model otter board with slot position 0.6C in attack angle 27$^{\circ}$ was the highest of all models, it's value was 1.59. \circled2 In general, the L/D ratio of the one slot otter boards were 16~28% higher than otter board without slot. \circled3 The slot position 0.6C was better than any other slot position, and it's conformed by visiualization. \circled4 As to the model otter board with slot position 0.6C, flow speed of the back side was faster 1.3 to 1.7 times than in the front side. \circled5 The size of the separated zone in case of the model otter board with 0.6C was smaller than that of any other models.
