The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the shear behavior of high-strength concrete deep beam and to grasp the conservatism of ACI Building Code. Experimental results on 12 deep beams under two equal symmetrically placed point loads are reported. Main variables are vertical and horizontal web reinforcement and shear span-to-overall depth ratio. Test results indicated that web reinforcement dose not affect on formation of inclined cracks but shear span-to-overall depth ratio affect on inclined shear cracks and ultimate shear strength. Addition of vertical web reinforcement improves ultimate shear strength of H.S.C. deep beams that shear span-to-overall depth ratio is 1.0. Considerable increase in ultimate shear strength of H.S.C. deep beams with increasing horizontal web reinforcement that shear span-to-overall depth ratio is 0.5. Especially with increasing concrete strength($f_{ck}$) the ACI code is conservative in estamating the ultimate shear strength of deep beams.

The objective of this experimental study was to understand the effect of horizontal shear bar on the shear behavior of R.C. deep beams. Therefore, in the test program, the horizontal shear bar ratio($\rho_{sh}$) and shear span-to-overall depth ratio(a/h) are considered as two main variables. Test results indicate that for deep beams with a/h equal to 1.0, horizontal shear bar is less efficient in restricting the diagonal crack width development and enhancing the ultimate shear strength. So, it can be concluded that shear resistance of horizontal shear bar is related to a/h rather than clear span-to-effective depth ratio($l_{n}$/d) recommended in ACI code.
The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the relationship of the shear behavior and the variety of width, depth and location of an opening in reinforced concrete deep beams with rectangular web openings, and to present an improved shear strength equation of those members. The main parameters considered were concrete strength(fck), shear span-to-overall depth ratio(a/h), and the size and vortical position of the web openings. Twenty five deep beams were tested under two symmetric loading-points. Test results showed that the shear behavior of deep beams with web openings was influenced by a/h and the size of opening. In addition, the KCI shear design provision is a tendency to be more unconservative according to the increase in a/h and the area-ratio of opening to shear span(Ao/Ash). Based on the concrete strut action of top and bottom member of an opening and the tie action of longitudinal reinforcement, a proper design equation which closely predicts the capacity of deep beams with rectangular openings is developed.
Currently, deep beams are designed according to ACT 318-99 equations derived from experimental data for slender beams with normal-strength concrete. In addition, there is relatively limited information on high-strength concrete deep beams with shear reinforcement. The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the shear behavior of high-strength concrete deep beams and to grasp the conservatism of ACI shear design provisions. Experimental results on the shear behavior of 22 deep beams under two equal symmetrically placed point loads are reported. compressive strength of concrete cylinder was 800kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and main variables were vertical and horizontal shear reinforcement and shear span-to-overall depth ratio (а/h). Test results showed that for high-strength concrete deep beams with shear span-to-overall depth ratio exceeding 0.75, the vertical shear reinforcement more effectively resisted the shear load than horizontal shear reinforcement. In high-strength concrete deep beams, ACI shear design provisions tended to underestimate the effect of strut-tie action and vertical shear reinforcement and overestimate the ones of horizontal shear reinforcement. Based on the experimental results of high-strength concrete deep beams and shear friction theory, this study modified the equations on the shear capacity specified by the ACI provisions.

The objective of this paper is to study the structural behavior of Composite Basement Wall (CBW) according to shear span-to-depth ratio through an experiment and predict the nonlinear behavior of CBW by using ADINA program widely has been being used for FE analysis. Especially, this study focuses on the part of CBW in which the Reinforced Concrete (RC) is under compression stress; At the region of CBW around each floor, RC part stresses by compressive force when lateral press by soil acts on the wall. The contact condition between RC wall and steel (H-Pile) including stud connector is main factor in the analysis since it governs overall structural behavior. In order to understand the structural behavior of CBW whose RC part is under compressive stress, an experimental work and finite element analysis were performed. Main parameter in the test is shear span-to-depth ratio. For simplicity in analysis, reinforcements were not modeled as a seperated element but idealized as smeared to concrete. All elements were modeled to have bi-linear relation of material properties. Three type of contact conditions such as All Generate Option (AGO), Same Element Group Option with Tie(SEGO-T) and Same Element Group Option with Not tie(SEGO-NT) were considered in the analysis. For each analysis, the stress flow and concentration were reviewed and analysis result was compared to test one. From the test result, CBW represented ductile behavior by contribution of steel member even if it had short shear span-to-depth ration which is close to "1". The global composite behavior of CBW whose concrete wall was under compressive stress could be predicted by using contact element in ADINA program. Especially, the modeling by using AGO and SEGO-T showed more close relation on comparing with test result.

The objective of this experimental study is to understand the effects of horizontal and vertical shear reinforcement on the shear strength of concrete deep beams. Main variables were the horizontal shear reinforcement ratio $(P_{sh})$, vertical shear reinforcement ratio$(P_{sv})$ and shear span-to-overall depth ratio(a/h). Test results revealed that the effectiveness of shear resistance of shear reinforcement was greatly related to the a/h. For the beams with $a/h\geq1.0$, the vertical shear reinforcement was more effective than horizontal shear reinforcement.

Test results of four reinforced concrete two-span continuous deep beams are summarized. Main variables were the configuration of web opening reinforcement. Shear span-to-overall depth ratio and the size of the web opening were fixed by 1.0 and 0.5 a $\times$ 0.2 h, respectively. To control diagonal crack and enhance strength, it can be recommended that diagonal reinforcement crossing the crack plane joining between loading points and corner of openings should be provided.

The objective of this paper is to investigate and analyze the behaviour of prestressed I section structural members constructed with ultra high perfomance steel fiber reinforced cementitious concrete (SFR-UHPC). This material is known as reactive powder concrete (RPC) mixed with domestic materials and its compressive strength is over 150MP. The parameters of test specimens were span to depth ratio, prestressing force, prestressing wire placement and web width. Most influential parameter to determine the failure mode between shear and flexural action was proved to be shear span ratio. The characteristics of ultra high-strength concrete is basically brittle, but due to the steel fiber reinforcement behaviour of this structure member became ductile after the peak load. As a result of the test, the stress block of compressive zone should be redefined. The proposed analytical calculation of internal force capacity based by plastic analysis gave a good prediction for the shear and flexural strength of specimens. The numerical verification of the finite element model which constitutive law developed for Mode I fracture of fiber reinforced concrete correctly captured the overall behaviour of the specimens tested.
In this study, the shear behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beams that were retrofitted using precast panels of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is presented. The precast UHPFRC panels were glued to the side surfaces of RC beams using epoxy adhesive in two different configurations: (i) retrofitting two sides, and (ii) retrofitting three sides. Experimental tests on the adhesive bond were conducted to estimate the bond capacity between the UHPFRC and normal concrete. All the specimens were tested in shear under varying levels of shear span-to-depth ratio (a/d=1.0; 1.5). For both types of configuration, the retrofitted specimens exhibited a significant improvement in terms of stiffness, load carrying capacity and failure mode. In addition, the UHPFRC retrofitting panels glued in three-sides shifted the failure from brittle shear to a more ductile flexural failure with enhancing the shear capacity up to 70%. This was more noticeable in beams that were tested with a/d=1.5. An approach for the approximation of the failure capacity of the retrofitted RC beams was evolved using a multi-level regression of the data obtained from the experimental work. The predicted values of strength have been validated by comparing them with the available test data. In addition, a 3-D finite element model (FEM) was developed to estimate the failure load and overall behaviour of the retrofitted beams. The FEM of the retrofitted beams was conducted using the non-linear finite element software ABAQUS.
