  • Interface behavior of concrete-infilled steel tube (CFT) was investigated based on the experimental observations and numerical analyses. Laboratory tests were performed for twelve CFTs that consisted of two different cases of diameters where each diameter case was composed of three different cases of shear span length. Thereby, diameter and shear span parameters were considered to prove the question of whether there exists interface slip between steel tube and infilled-concrete. Confining effect of steel tube to infilled concrete was also investigated by measuring lateral strain as well as longitudinal strain. Based on the study, it was concluded that confining effect of steel tube to infilled-concrete is not influential under flexural loading and therefore, the sectional analysis is an effective way to estimate the flexural strength of CFT.

  • This paper discussed and analyzed the interfacial stress distribution characteristic of adjacent cracks in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) plate strengthened concrete slabs. One un-strengthened concrete test beam and four CFRP plate-strengthened concrete test beams were designed to carry out four-point flexural tests. The test data shows that the interfacial shear stress between the interface of CFRP plate and concrete can effectively reduce the crack shrinkage of the tensile concrete and reduces the width of crack. The maximum main crack flexural height in pure bending section of the strengthened specimen is smaller than that of the un-strengthened specimen, the CFRP plate improves the rigidity of specimens without brittle failure. The average ultimate bearing capacity of the CFRP-strengthened specimens was increased by 64.3% compared to that without CFRP-strengthen. This indicites that CFRP enhancement measures can effectively improve the ultimate bearing capacity and delay the occurrence of debonding damage. Based on the derivation of mechanical analysis model, the calculation formula of interfacial shear stress between adjacent cracks is proposed. The distributions characteristics of interfacial shear stress between certain crack widths were given. In the intermediate cracking region of pure bending sections, the length of the interfacial softening near the mid-span cracking position gradually increases as the load increases. The CFRP-concrete interface debonding capacity with the larger adjacent crack spacing is lower than that with the smaller adjacent crack spacing. The theoretical calculation results of interfacial bonding shear stress between adjacent cracks have good agreement with the experimental results. The interfacial debonding failure between adjacent cracks in the intermediate cracking region was mainly caused by the root of the main crack. The larger the spacing between adjacent cracks exists, the easier the interfacial debonding failure occurs.

  • The kinematic and complicance characteristics of torsion beam axle is structurally related to the location and section profile of torsion beam and the span from body mounting point to wheel center. This paper presents the effect of section properties in torsion beam on the structural characteristics and roll behavior of suspension. The structural characteristics is on the maximum stress on the welding area of torsion beam and the roll behavior is on roll steer and roll-camber of suspension which are important for controllability and stability in cornering. Four factors are used for the section design of torsion beam, which are thickness , midline length, are inner radius, and sector half angle . Through the structural and quasi-static analysis made for six torsion beam axle models, it can be noticed that roll steer and the structural durability of suspension are closely related to warping constant and shear center in section properties of torsion beam.

  • The Xiaolan channel super large bridge is unique in style and with greatest span in the world with a total length of 7686.57 m. The main bridge with spans arranged as 100m+220m+100m is a combined structure composed of prestressed concrete V-shape rigid frame and concrete-filled steel tubular flexible arch. First of all, the author compiles APDL command flow program by using the unit birth-death technique and establishes simulation calculation model in the whole construction process. The creep characteristics of concrete are also taken into account. The force ratio of the suspender, arch and beam is discussed. The authors conduct studies on the three-plate webs's rule of shear stress distribution, the box girder's longitudinal bending normal stress on every construction stage, meanwhile the distribution law of longitudinal bending normal stress and transverse bending normal stress of completed bridge's box girder. Results show that, as a new combined bridge, it is featured by: Girder and arch resist forces together; Moment effects of the structure are mainly presented as compressed arch and tensioned girder; The bridge type brings the girder and arch on resisting forces into full play; Great in vertical stiffness and slender in appearance.

  • The bonding strength of the interface between the actual bridge concrete deck and overlay was primarily affected by the shear that depended on the flexural behavior than pure tensile, but the field bonding test measured bonding strength by the pure tensile due to simplicity and field applicability. Therefore, the purpose this study was to evaluate the required direct bond strength for bridge deck overlay using Finite element analysis with the many variavles such as bridge deck types, span length, material properties, lanes, and loading types. The commercial program LUSAS was used in analysis. The analysis results were compared to the value of specification currently used in highway construction site.

  • This paper deals with the free vibrations of columns immersed in fluid. The column model is based on the classical Bernoulli-euler theory which neblects the effects of rotatory inerital and shear deformation. The eccentricity and rotatory inertial of the concentrated mass at the top are taken into accuont. In the governing equation for the free vibration of column, thedensity of immersed part was midified to account for theadded fluid mass. The govering differential equations are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditions. The lowest four natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are calculated over a range of non-dimensional system parameters ; the mas density ration of fluid to column, the ratio of fluid depth to span length, the ratio of tip mass to total column mass, the dimensionless mass moment of inertia, and the eccentricity.

The beam model is based on the classical Bernoulli-Euler beam theory which neglects the effects of rotatory inertial and shear deformation. The governing differential equations forr the free vibrations of immersed columns are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditoins. • A railway bridge with a double composite section is proposed to enhance the structural performance of existing two-girder bridges because the governing design parameter of railway bridges is the flexural stiffness. The concrete deck in negative moment regions is neglected in the design of continuous composite bridges assuming the concrete slab has no resistance to tension. Therefore, the flexural stiffness of the composite section in the negative moment region is reduced resulting in the increase of the depth of the steel section. In order to resolve this disadvantage, several methods are suggested and the double composite section is one of the excellent solutions for extending the span length and increasing the flexural stiffness. In this study, push-out tests on lying studs and mixed stud shear connection with lying and vertical studs were performed to investigate the behavior of the shear connection in the double composite section. Static strength of the shear connection was evaluated through the test results and numerical analyses.

  • This paper describes a new refined truss modeling technique derived based on the well-known relationship of V=dM/dx=zdT/dx+Tdz/dx in a reinforced concrete beam subjected to combined shear and moment loads. The core of the model is that a new perspective on the shear behavior can be gained by considering the variation of the internal arm length along the span, so that the shear resistance mechanism can be expressed by the sum of two base components; arch action and beam action. The sharing ratio of these two actions is determined by accounting for the compatibility of deformation associated to the two actions. Modified Compression Field Theory and the tension-stiffening effect formula in CEB/FIP MC-90 are employed in calculating the deformations. Then the base equation of V=dM/dx has been numerically duplicated to form a new refined truss model.

  • This paper presented equations on the stress evaluation of steel frame pier connections that were composed of a box beam and a circular column. The existing equations, which transformed the circular column into an equivalent box column had some problems; they underestimated a shear lag stress as the joint angle decreased, and overestimated a shear stress as the joint angel increased. Therefore, FE analyses were performed with various parameters, such as joint angle(${\alpha}$), span length-width ratio(L/B), and circular column-to-box beam stiffness ratio(${\alpha}$), and new equations on stress evaluation were proposed based on FE analyses. Furthermore, material and geometric nonlinear analyses were performed to estimate ultimate strength and to confirm the validity of the proposed equations.
