This paper uses the four-variable refined plate theory for the free vibration analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) rectangular plates. The plate properties are assumed to be varied through the thickness following a simple power law distribution in terms of volume fraction of material constituents. The theory presented is variationally consistent, does not require shear correction factor, and gives rise to transverse shear stress variation such that the transverse shear stresses vary parabolically across the thickness satisfying shear stress free surface conditions. Equations of motion are derived from the Hamilton's principle. The closed-form solutions of functionally graded plates are obtained using Navier solution. Numerical results of the refined plate theory are presented to show the effect of the material distribution, the aspect and side-to-thickness ratio on the fundamental frequencies. It can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and simple in solving the free vibration behavior of functionally graded plates.
The effect of porosity on bending and free vibration behavior of simply supported functionally graded plate reposed on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation is investigated analytically in the present paper. The modified rule of mixture covering porosity phases is used to describe and approximate material properties of the FGM plates with porosity phases. The effect due to transverse shear is included by using a new refined shear deformation theory. The number of unknown functions involved in the present theory is only four as against five or more in case of other shear deformation theories. The Poisson ratio is held constant. Based on the sinusoidal shear deformation theory, the position of neutral surface is determined and the equation of motion for FG rectangular plates resting on elastic foundation based on neutral surface is obtained through the minimum total potential energy and Hamilton's principle. The convergence of the method is demonstrated and to validate the results, comparisons are made with the available solutions for both isotropic and functionally graded material (FGM). The effect of porosity volume fraction on Al/Al2O3 and Ti-6Al-4V/Aluminum oxide plates are presented in graphical forms. The roles played by the constituent volume fraction index, the foundation stiffness parameters and the geometry of the plate is also studied.

Using the hyperbolic shear deformation plate model and including plate-foundation interaction (Winkler and Pasternak model), an analytical method in order to determine the deflection and stress distributions in simply supported rectangular functionally graded plates (FGP) subjected to a sinusoidal load, a temperature and moisture fields. The present theory exactly satisfies stress boundary conditions on the top and the bottom of the plate. No transversal shear correction factors are needed because a correct representation of the transversal shearing strain is given. Materials properties of the plate (elastic, thermal and moisture expansion coefficients) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Numerical examples are presented and discussed for verifying the accuracy of the present theory in predicting the bending response of FGM plates under sinusoidal load and a temperature field as well as moisture concentration. The effects of material properties, temperature, moisture, plate aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, ratio of elastic coefficients (ceramic-metal) and three distributions for both temperature and moisture on deflections and stresses are investigated.
In this paper, a new hyperbolic shear deformation plate theory based on neutral surface position is developed for the static analysis of functionally graded plates (FGPs). The theory accounts for hyperbolic distribution of the transverse shear strains and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the beam without using shear correction factors. The neutral surface position for a functionally graded plate which its material properties vary in the thickness direction is determined. The mechanical properties of the plate are assumed to vary continuously in the thickness direction by a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Based on the present new hyperbolic shear deformation plate theory and the neutral surface concept, the governing equations of equilibrium are derived from the principle of virtual displacements. Numerical illustrations concern flexural behavior of FG plates with Metal-Ceramic composition. Parametric studies are performed for varying ceramic volume fraction, volume fraction profiles, aspect ratios and length to thickness ratios. The accuracy of the present solutions is verified by comparing the obtained results with the existing solutions.

In this work, a novel hyperbolic shear deformation theory is developed for free vibration analysis of the simply supported functionally graded plates in thermal environment and the FGM having temperature dependent material properties. This theory has only four unknowns, which is even less than the other shear deformation theories. The theory presented is variationally consistent, without the shear correction factor. The present one has a new displacement field which introduces undetermined integral variables. Equations of motion are obtained by utilizing the Hamilton's principles and solved via Navier's procedure. The convergence and the validation of the proposed theoretical model are performed to demonstrate the efficacy of the model.

In this paper, we compared various shear deformation functions for modelling anti-symmetric composite sandwich plates discretized by a mixed finite element method based on the Lagrangian/Hermite interpolation functions. These shear deformation theories uses polynomial, trigonometric, hyperbolic and exponential functions through the thickness direction, allowing for zero transverse shear stresses at the top and bottom surfaces of the plate. All shear deformation functions are compared with other available analytical/3D elasticity solutions, As a result, reasonable accuracy for investigated problems are predicted. Particularly, The present results show that the use of exponential shear deformation theory provides very good solutions for composite sandwich plates.
Sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT) is developed here for dynamic buckling of functionally graded (FG) nano-plates. The material properties of plate are assumed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. In order to present a realistic model, the structural damping of nano-structure is considered using Kelvin-Voigt model. The surrounding elastic medium is modeled with a novel foundation namely as orthotropic visco-Pasternak medium. Size effects are incorporated based on Eringen'n nonlocal theory. Equations of motion are derived from the Hamilton's principle. The differential quadrature method (DQM) in conjunction with Bolotin method is applied for obtaining the dynamic instability region (DIR). The detailed parametric study is conducted, focusing on the combined effects of the nonlocal parameter, orthotropic visco-Pasternak foundation, power index of FG plate, structural damping and boundary conditions on the dynamic instability of system. The results are compared with those of first order shear deformation theory and higher-order shear deformation theory. It can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and efficient in predicting the dynamic buckling responses of system.
Postbuckling of thick plates made of functionally graded material (FGM) subjected to in-plane compressive, thermal and thermomechanical loads is investigated in this work. It is assumed that the plate is in contact with a Pasternak-type elastic foundation during deformation. Thermomechanical non-homogeneous properties are considered to be temperature independent, and graded smoothly by the distribution of power law across the thickness in the thickness in terms of the volume fractions of constituents. By employing the higher order shear deformation plate theory together the non-linear von-Karman strain-displacement relations, the equilibrium and compatibility equations of imperfect FGM plates are derived. The Galerkin technique is used to determine the buckling loads and postbuckling equilibrium paths for simply supported plates. Numerical examples are presented to show the influences of power law index, foundation stiffness and imperfection on the buckling and postbuckling loading capacity of the plates.
In this paper, an analytical procedure based on the perturbation technique is presented to study the free vibrations of annular viscoelastic plates by considering the first order shear deformation theory as the displacement field. The viscoelastic properties obey the standard linear solid model. The equations of motion are extracted for small deflection assumption using the Hamilton's principle. These equations which are a system of partial differential equations with variable coefficients are solved analytically with the perturbation technique. By using a new variable change, the governing equations are converted to equations with constant coefficients which have the analytical solution and they are appropriate especially to study the sensitivity analysis. Also the natural frequencies are calculated using the classical plate theory and finite elements method. A parametric study is performed and the effects of geometry, material and boundary conditions are investigated on the vibrational behavior of the plate. The results show that the first order shear deformation theory results is more closer than to the finite elements with respect to the classical plate theory for viscoelastic plate. The more results are summarized in conclusion section.
In this article, a free vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates resting on elastic foundations is presented using a quasi-3D hybrid-type higher order shear deformation theory. Undetermined integral terms are employed in the proposed displacement field and modeled based on a hybrid-type (sinusoidal and parabolic) quasi-3D HSDT with five unknowns in which the stretching effect is taken into account. Thus, it can be said that the significant feature of this theory is that it deals with only 5 unknowns as the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The elastic foundation parameters are introduced in the present formulation by following the Pasternak (two-parameter) mathematical model. Equations of motion are obtained via the Hamilton's principles and solved using Navier's method. Accuracy of the proposed theory is confirmed by comparing the results of numerical examples with the ones available in literature.
