The flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete beams by external bonding of composite materials has proved to be an efficient and practical technique. This paper presents a study on the flexural performance of reinforced concrete continuous beams with three spans (one span and two cantilevered) strengthened by bonding carbon fiber fabric (CFRP). The model is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the strengthened continuous beam, i.e., the continuous concrete beam, the FRP plate and the adhesive layer. The adherend shear deformations have been included in the present theoretical analyses by assuming a linear shear stress through the thickness of the adherends. Remarkable effect of shear deformations of adherends has been noted in the results. The theoretical predictions are compared with other existing solutions that shows good agreement, and It shows the effectiveness of CFRP strips in enhancing shear capacity of continuous beam. It is shown that both the normal and shear stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam.

The results of an experimental investigation are presented in this paper for retrofitting of shear damaged reinforced concrete beams by using U shaped CFRP strips. The experimental program is consisted of seven shear deficient T cross sectioned 1/2 scale simply supported beam specimens. One beam was used as reference specimen, and the remaining six specimens were tested in two stages. At the first stage, specimens were shear damaged severely, and then were retrofitted by using CFRP strips with or without fan type anchorages. Finally, retrofitted beams were tested up to failure. Three different CFRP strip spacing were used such as 125 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm. The effect of anchorages on shear strength and behavior of the retrofitted specimens is investigated. CFRP strips without anchorages improved the shear strength, but no flexural failure mode was observed. Specimens showed brittle shear failure due to peeling of CFRP strip from RC beam surface. Shear damaged specimens retrofitted with anchoraged CFRP strips showed improved shear strength and ductile flexural failure. Maximum strains at anchoraged strips were approximately 68% larger than that of strips without anchorages.
In this study, a method has been proposed for the static and dynamic nonlinear analysis of multi-storey buildings, which takes into account the contribution of axial deformations in vertical load-bearing elements, which are especially important in tall and narrow structures. Shear deformations on the shear walls were also taken into account in the study. The presented method takes into account the effects that are not considered in the fishbone and flexural-shear beam models developed in the literature. In the Fishbone model, only frame systems are modeled. In the flexural shear beam model developed for shear wall systems, shear deformations and axial deformations in the walls are neglected. Unlike the literature, with the model proposed in this study, both shear deformations in the walls and axial deformations in the columns and walls are taken into account. In the proposed model, multi-storey building is represented as a sandwich beam consisting of Timoshenko beams pieced together with a double-hinged beam. At each storey, the total moment capacities of the frame beams and the coupled beams in the coupled shear walls are represented as the equivalent shear capacity. On the other hand, The sums of individual columns and walls moment at the relevant floor level are represented as equivalent moment capacity at that floor level. At the end of the study, examples were solved to show the suitability of the proposed method in this study. The SAP2000 program is employed in analyses. In a conclusion, it is observed that among the solved examples, the proposed sandwich beam model gives good results. As can be seen from these results, it is seen that the presented method, especially in terms of base shear force, gives very close results to the detailed finite element method.
The purpose of this study is to estimate the shear strength of high-strength SFRC beam by the comparison of normal-strength SFRC beam. To achieve the goal of this study, 9th specimens were made and tested. From the analyzing test result and previous researches, the shear strengthening effect of steel fiber in high-strength is evaluated as superior than normal-strength concrete. And the proposed shear strength equation of SFRC is underestimated the shear capacity of high-strength SFRC beam. Finally, the shear strengthening effect of steel fiber in high-strength concrete is evaluated about 3.5 times larger than normal-strength concrete.
The major objective of this study is to investigate experimentally the shear strengthening effect of carbon fiber sheets upon reinforced concrete deep beam and shear failure behavior variation of reinforced concrete deep beam strengthened by carbon fiber sheets. Tests are carried out with 6 specimens were shear failure at first loading tests, and with parameters including the types of shear strengthening of carbon fiber sheets (I type, S type, U type), and plies of sheets (2 ply and 1 ply). From the results of test, analyzed load-deflection of midspan, strain variation of main bars and transverse reinforcement, maximum load capacity of strengthened specimens, and compared with the previous test results.

In this study, we propose a new equation that evaluates the shear strength of beam-column connections in reinforced concrete and steel beam (RCS) composite materials. This equation encompasses the effect of shear keys, extended face bearing plates (E-FBP), and transverse beams on connection shear strength, as well as the contribution of cover plates. Mobilization coefficients for beam-column connections in the RCS composite system are suggested. The proposed model, validated by statistical analysis, provided the strongest correlation with test results for connections containing both E-FBP and transverse beams. Additionally, our results indicated that Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ) and Modified AIJ (M-AIJ) equations should be used carefully to evaluate the shear strength for connections that do not have E-FBP or transverse beams.
No specific guidelines are for computing the shear strength of steel coupling beam connections embedded in the reinforced concrete shear wall. In this paper, a theoretical study of the strength of hybrid coupled shear wall connections is achieved. The bearing stress at failure in the concrete below the steel coupling beam section is related to the concrete compressive strength and the ratio of the width of the steel coupling beam section to the thickness of the hybrid coupled shear wall. To revise factor affecting shear transfer strength across connections between coupled shear walls and steel coupling beam, experimental studies are achieved. The main test variables were auxiliary details of stud bolts. In this studies, these proposed equations are shown to be in good agreement with the test results reported in the paper and with other test data in the literature.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear strength of reinforced concrete beam according to beam section size and shear reinforcement ratio. A total of nine specimens were tested and designed concrete compressive strength is 24 MPa. The main variables are shear reinforcement ratio and beam section size fixed with shear span to depth ratio (a/d = 2.5), the tensile reinforcement ratio (${\rho}=0.013$) and width to depth ratio (h/b = 1.5). The test specimens were divided into three series of S1 ($225{\times}338mm$), S2 ($270{\times}405mm$) and S3 ($315{\times}473mm$), respectively. The experimental results show that all specimens represent diagonal tensile failure. For $S^*-1$ specimens (d/s=0), the shear strength decreased by 33% and 46% with increasing the beam effective depth, 26% and 33% for $S^*-2$ specimens (d/s=1.5) and 16% and 20% for $S^*-3$ specimens (d/s=2.0) respectively. As the shear reinforcement ratio increases, the decrease range in shear strength decreases. In other words, this means that as the shear reinforcement ratio increases, the size effect of concrete decreases. In the S1 series, the shear strength increased by 39% and 41% as the shear reinforcement ratio increased, 54% and 76% in the S2 series and 66% and 100% in the S3 series, respectively. As the effective depth of beam increases, the increase range of shear strength increases. This means that the effect of shear reinforcement increases as the beam effective depth increases. As a result of comparing experimental values with theoretical values by standard equation and proposed equation, the ratio by Zsutty and Bazant's equation is 1.30 ~ 1.36 and the ratio by KBC1 and KBC2 is 1.55~.163, respectively. Therefore, Zsutty and Bazant's proposed equation is more likely to reflect the experimental data. The current standard for shear reinforcement ratio (i.e., $S_{max}=d/2$) is expected to be somewhat relaxed because the ratio of experimental values to theoretical values was found to be 1.01 ~ 1.44 for most specimens.

Composite beams, two materials joined together, have become more common in structural engineering over the past few decades because they have better mechanical and structural properties. The shear connectors between their layers exhibit some deformability with finite stiffness, resulting in interfacial shear slip, a phenomenon known as partial shear interaction. Such a partial shear interaction contributes significantly to the composite beams. To provide precise predictions of the geometric nonlinear behavior shown by two-layered composite beams with interfacial shear slips, a robust analytical model has been developed that incorporates the influence of significant displacements. The application of a higher-order beam theory to the two material layers results in a third-order adjustment of the longitudinal displacement within each layer along the depth of the beam. Deformable shear connectors are employed at the interface to represent the partial shear interaction by means of a sequence of shear connectors that are evenly distributed throughout the beam's length. The Von-Karman theory of large deflection incorporates geometric nonlinearity into the governing equations, which are then solved analytically using the Navier solution technique. Suggested model exhibits a notable level of agreement with published findings, and numerical outputs derived from finite element (FE) model. Large displacement substantially reduces deflection, interfacial shear slip, and stress values. Geometric nonlinearity has a significant impact on beams with larger span-to-depth ratio and a greater degree of shear connector deformability. Potentially, the analytical model can accurately predict the geometric nonlinear responses of composite beams. The model has a high degree of generality, which might aid in the numerical solution of composite beams with varying configurations and shear criteria.
A study on the static analysis of Timoshenko beams is presented. A beam element is developed by using isogeometric approach based on Timoshenko beam theory which allows the transverse shear deformation. The identification of transverse shear locking is conducted by three refinement schemes such as h-, p- and k-refinement and compared to other reference solutions. From numerical examples, the present beam element does not produce any shear locking in very thin beam situations even with full Gauss integration rule. Finally, the benchmark tests described in this study is provided as future reference solutions for Timoshenko beam problems based on isogeometric approach.
