  • In this paper, a new visual servo method, which uses 5 axis picomotor to compensate the misalignment generated between a SLM and a CCD in a holographic storage device, was proposed and the effectiveness of it was proved by the experiment. In a holographic storage device, the data processing is done by the SLM and the CCD, and the shape of data is 2 dimensional binary patterns. Therefore, the exact image matching between the SLM and the CCD is very important, and the mismatching of it causes the errors in the data reconstruction. First, the brief introduction of a holographic data storage is given, then, BER concept which is errors caused by pixel mismatch between the SLM and the CCD is defined. Second, the geometric relation between 5 axis picomotor and the CCD movement is studied. Finally, the visual servo method using 5 axis picomotor to reduce the BER in a holographic storage device is proposed and experimented. From the experiment, we find that about 3% BER improvement is obtained by the proposed method.

  • 3D geometric modeling of an object of interest has been intensively investigated in many fields including CAD/CAM and computer graphics. Traditionally, CAD and geometric modeling tools are widely used to create geometric models that have nearly the same shape of 3D real objects or satisfy designers intent. Recently, with the help of the reverse engineering (RE) technology, we can easily acquire 3D point data from the objects and create 3D geometric models that perfectly fit the scanned data more easily and fast. In this paper, we present 3D geometric model generation based on a stereo vision system (SVS) using random pattern projection. A triangular mesh is considered as the resulting geometric model. In order to obtain reasonable results with the SVS-based geometric model generation, we deal with many steps including camera calibration, stereo matching, scanning from multiple views, noise handling, registration, and triangular mesh generation. To acquire reliable stere matching, we project random patterns onto the object. With experiments using various random patterns, we propose several tips helpful for the quality of the results. Some examples are given to show their usefulness.

  • This paper proposes a method for measurement three-dimensional trajectories of bubbles generated around a swimmer's arms from stereo high-speed camera videos. This method is based on two techniques: two-dimensional trajectory estimation in single-camera images and trajectory pair matching in stereo-camera images. The two-dimensional trajectory is estimated by block matching using similarity of bubble shape and probability of bubble displacement. The trajectory matching is achieved by a consistensy test using epipolar constraint in multiple frames. The experimental results in two-dimensional trajectory estimation showed the estimation accuracy of 47% solely by the general optical flow estimation, whereas 71% taking the bubble displacement into consideration. This concludes bubble displacement is an efficient aspect in this estimation. In three-dimensional trajectory estimation, bubbles were visually captured moving along the flow generated by an arm; which means an efficient material for swimmers to swim faster.

  • The structure, shape, size, and magnetic properties of Ni$_{0.5}$Cu$_{0.1}$Zn$_{0.4}$Fe$_2$O$_4$ have been investigated as a function of annealing temperatures. In order to control the microwave absorbing properties of ferrite-rubber composite and the complex losses (magnetic loss and conduction loss), the effect of carbon addition was also studied. It was found that the coercive force decreased with increasing heat-treatment temperatures. Relative complex permeability and reflection loss were measured by the network analyzer. As a result, the natural resonance occurred in the low frequency tinge, and the matching frequency of the ferrite-rubber composite prepared at 130$0^{\circ}C$ was found to be lower. As heat-treatment temperatures were increased, the magnetic loss ($\mu$$_{r}$", $\mu$$_{r}$′) and the dielectric loss ($\varepsilon$$_{r}$"/$\varepsilon$$_{r}$′) were increased. It was caused that the absorption characteristics of the absorber were improved. The conduction loss and magnetic loss were expected to be occurred together because two matching frequencies were shown with carbon addition. It was confirmed that the matching frequency of the microwave absorber could be controlled by controlling heat-treatment temperatures and carbon additions.ons.tions.

  • Multiview stereo matching algorithm is used to reconstruct 3D shape from a set of 2D images. Conventional multiview stereo algorithms have been implemented on high-performance hardware due to the heavy complexity that contains a large number of calculations in each step. However, as the performance of mobile graphics processors has recently increased rapidly, complex computer vision algorithms can now be implemented on mobile devices like a smartphone and an embedded board. In this paper we parallelize an multiview stereo algorithm using OpenCL on mobile GPU and provide various optimization techniques on the embedded hardware with limited resource.

  • A dual-band (UHF: 470-862 MHz, L: 1452-1492 MHz) digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H) antenna is presented. The proposed antenna is composed of a planar inverted F-shape antenna (PIFA) with an input impedance matching circuit. The matching circuit improves antenna performance in the broad UHF bands (470-862 MHz: 63%). The proposed antenna has omni-directional patterns and sufficient gain (Ave. peak gain is about 1.70 dBi over 470-862 MHz) for the PMP applications. The antenna is contact with a PMP case (${\varepsilon}_r=3.2$) which is used as a substrate for the size reduction and compact design.

  • The contrast control of images with narrow dynamic range is a simple method among enhancement methods for low intensity of image. Histogram equalization is the most common method for this purpose, which stretches the dynamic range of intensity Conventional methods would fail to enhance images with extremely dark and bright regions, because of not considering the shape of histogram. In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive histogram equalization based on histogram matching with multiple Gaussian transformation function. As a result, output images with a couple of peaks of histogram could be improved and the details such as edges in dark regions could be appeared better than conventional method subjectively.

  • A measurement technique for the void fraction and the bubble dynamics in gas-liquid two-phase flows has been proposed using a time-resolved two-phase PIV system. For the three-dimensional evaluation of the bubble information, both the images from the front and side views are simultaneously recorded into a high speed CCD camera by reflecting the side image into the front view with the help of a $45^{\circ}$ oriented mirror. Then, a stereo-matching technique is applied to calculate the void fraction, bubble size and shape. To obtain the rising bubble velocities, the 2-frame PTV method was applied. Consequently, the present technique shows good feasibility for the measurements of the volume fractions, mean diameters, aspect ratios and velocities of the bubbles at the three-dimensional point of view.

  • It is difficult that a non-translational motion in a block is estimated by the block matching algorithm (BMA). In this paper, a nodal-displacement-based deformation model is used for this reason. This model assumes that a selected number of control nodes move freely in a block and that displacement of any interior point can be interpolated from nodal displacements. As a special case with a single node this model is equivalent to a translational model. And this model can represent more complex deformation using more nodes. We used an iterative gradient based search algorithm to estimate nodal displacement. Each iteration involves the solution of a simple linear equation. This method is called the deformable block matching algorithm (DBMA).

  • In this paper, step-down piezoelectric transformer is studied. The piezoelectric transformer, made of lead zirconate titanate solid solution ceramic, is operated by a fundamental contour-extensional vibration mode. The transformer of 14mm length, 14mm width and 4.5mm thickness was made up two shape(Type I and II). The resonant frequency (fr) is 144kHz and 128kHz at the load resistant of $7.5{\Omega}$ that is a similar to calculating matching impedance. The gain (G) obtained 0.19 and 0.08 at each resonant frequency, when applied input voltage is 25V. The temperature difference with the variation of load resistant was increased with increasing load resistant and was the lowest at $7.5{\Omega}$ near the matching of output impedance.
