To reduce water input by water-saving irrigation techniques a field study was carried out with three water managements, very shallow intermittent irrigation (VSII, 2cm), shallow intermittent irrigation (SII, 4cm) and traditional deep water irrigation (DWI, 10cm) for two years. Rice growth and grain yields of three water managements were not significantly different. However, when the water irrigation depth was decreased, the breaking and lodging resistance were increased and the roots were widely distributed into deeper paddy soil. More numbers of both annual and perennial weeds were occurred in VSII than in DWI at maximum heading stage and only the number of perennial weeds was three times in VSII than in DWI at heading stage. The total water inputs were 777, 654 and 527 mm in DWI, SII and VSII, therefore the water-saving rates of VSII and SII were $32.2\%\;and\;15.9\%$ compared to typical deep water irrigation. The water-productivity (Rice yield to water input) was highest in VSII as 0.94 and followed by SII as 0.76 and DWI as 0.63. In the face of water scarcity, it is very important to find or develope water saving irrigation system and find ways to increase the productivity of water used for rice cultivation.

Hydrologic responses to the 4September 2010 $M_W$ 7.1 and 22 February 2011 $M_W$ 6.2 Canterbury earthquakes ranged from near instantaneous co-seismic liquefaction and changes in groundwater levels, to more sustained (days to months) changes in river discharge, spring flow and groundwater level. There was some indication of a sustained change in aquifer properties. This paper presents some of the hydrographs from the September and February events, and compares the response to each event, briefly taking into account the location of the bore relative to each earthquake, together with other factors such as borehole depth. Over the months following the September earthquake, a pattern emerged of relatively short-term responses in the shallow aquifers and in the confined aquifer system, close to the coast. A longer term response appears to have occurred in inland, deep bores, where water levels 12 months after the September event were (in some cases) up to 20 metres higher than would have been expected based on simple modelling (see Figure 3). Some examples of these are highlighted.

The Yellow Sea is characterized by relatively shallow water depth, varying range of tidal action and very complex coastal geometry such as islands, bays, peninsulas, tidal flats, shoals etc. The dynamic system is controlled by tides, regional winds, river discharge, and interaction with the Kuroshio. The circulation, water mass properties and their variability in the Yellow Sea are very complicated and still far from clear understanding. In this study, an effort to improve our understanding the dynamic feature of the Yellow Sea system was conducted using numerical simulation with the ROMS model, applying climatologic forcing such as winds, heat flux and fresh water precipitation. The inter-annual variability of general circulation and thermohaline structure throughout the year has been obtained, which has been compared with observational data sets. The simulated horizontal distribution and vertical cross-sectional structures of temperature and salinity show a good agreement with the observational data indicating significantly the water masses such as Yellow Sea Warm Water, Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water, Changjiang River Diluted Water and other sporadically observed coastal waters around the Yellow Sea. The tidal effects on circulation and dynamic features such as coastal tidal fronts and coastal mixing are predominant in the Yellow Sea. Hence the tidal effects on those dynamic features are dealt in the accompanying paper (Kim et at., 2004). The ROMS model adopts curvilinear grid with horizontal resolution of 35 km and 20 vertical grid spacing confirming to relatively realistic bottom topography. The model was initialized with the LEVITUS climatologic data and forced by the monthly mean air-sea fluxes of momentum, heat and fresh water derived from COADS. On the open boundaries, climatological temperature and salinity are nudged every 20 days for data assimilation to stabilize the modeling implementation. This study demonstrates a Yellow Sea version of Atlantic Basin experiment conducted by Haidvogel et al. (2000) experiment that the ROMS simulates the dynamic variability of temperature, salinity, and velocity fields in the ocean. However the present study has been improved to deal with the large river system, open boundary nudging process and further with combination of the tidal forcing that is a significant feature in the Yellow Sea.

For the safety of vessels sailing Marine Transport Facility announces sea route, reefs or shallow water. Photovoltaic, independent power system, installation in the general Marine Transport Facilities to be used in the marine lantern. Due to install of communications, controls, power consumption inceases. And the weather of cloudy day or rainy, generation of electricity is decrease. Recently, power system of marine facility using a hybrid generation system, photovoltaic generation system and wave power generation system. But increase of adhered shellfish inside the water column, is the cause of the reduction of efficiency. So study was conducted to Single channel AFS(Anti-Fouling system). In this paper we offer the Multi channel AFS for Marine Transport Facility and have simulated. Improve the accuracy of the research, we using the result of anode, in the experiment were actually in the buoy, is based on simulation. The experimental results is shown every anode's, in the Marine Transport Facility, ionization was conducted identically.

A waterjet propulsion system has many advantages compared with a conventional screw propeller especially for amphibious military vehicles because of a good maneuverability at low speed, good operating ability at shallow water, high thrust at low speed to aid maneuverability and exit from water, etc. Especially, compact design is important for the tracked-vehicle because of buoyancy in water and available space inside the tracked vehicle. The experiment is parametrically performed for various impeller diameters for more compact design. The experimental results are analyzed according to the ITTC 1996 standard analysis method as well as the conventional propulsive factor analysis method. The full-scale effective and delivered power of the tracked-vehicle are evaluated according to the variation of impeller diameter. This paper emphasized the effect of impeller diameter on the performance of waterjet system.
Water mass distribution and currents were investigated off the east coast of Korea near the Hupo Bank using the CTD and ADCP data from June to August 2010. The typical water masses were: (1) Tsushima Surface Water (TSW) from the East Korean Warm Current (EKWC) in the surface layer, (2) a shallow thermocline at 20-30 m depth, (3) Tsushima Middle Water (TMW) of high salinity (>34.2) below the pycnocline, (4) North Korean Cold Water (NKCW) of low salinity (<34.05) and low temperature (<4°C) in the lower layer. In June, a double eddy was observed in which a cold filament intruded cyclonically from the south around a pre-existing cold-core eddy. A burst of strong southward current was recorded in mid-August due to a warm filament from the meandering EKWC. Current in the N-S direction was predominant due to topographic effects, and the direction of the northward EKWC was frequently reversed in its direction due to the eddy-filament activity, whereas the influence of the wind was not noticeable. The vertical structure of the current was of a two-layer system, with the northward EKWC in the upper layer and weak southward flows corresponding to the North Korean Cold Current (NKCC) in the deeper layer.
The transmitted acoustic signals are severely influenced by multiply reflected signals from boundaries, such as sea surface and bottom in the shallow water. Very large reflection signals from boundaries cause inter-symbol interference so that the performance of the underwater acoustic communication is degraded. Usually, the waveform shaping filters are used to prevent the reflected signals under this kind of acoustic channel. Especially, the raised cosine filter is widely used, which can also be used to restrict the bandwidth of the transmitted signal. In this study, we evaluate the raised cosine filter for image data transmission in the shallow water, and propose a new modified raised cosine filter. The QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) system is used for the underwater acoustic communication simulations with different distances and symbol rates. As a result, the bit error rate was reduced from the minimum 1.0 % to the maximum 32 %.
In this paper, the measuring method of underwater acoustic communication channel characteristics in the shallow water using the autocorrelation characteristic of PN sequence and the undorwater communication channel analysis results from the received signal sample data are described. For measuring the underwater acoustic communication channel characteristics, two PN sequences are used as a transmitted data of I-channel and Q-channel of QPSK symbol and QPSK signal is transmitted with symbol rate of 5 kHz and carrier frequency of 25 kHz. In the receiver the received signal, which pass through 675 m and 1492 m, is sampled and then stored. Using the stored sample data, the scattering function, coherent time, delay power profile, spaced-tone autocorrelation function, delay spread, and coherent bandwidth of each propagation distance cases are analyzed. Based on the analysis results, several guidelines are suggested for the design and implementation of underwater transmission system.

During ballast of a LNG carrier, the mud at the sea floor can enter the tanks together with the ballast water if the LNG terminal is located at shallow water region. In order to remove the mud deposited on the tank floor during deballasting, the mud flushing system in the ballast tanks is applied. In this study, various analyses to conform the efficiency in the mud removal are performed. In order to design the mud flushing system, the particle size of the mud is measured by particle size analyzer. Flushing performance is evaluated by numerical analysis. From the results of numerical analysis including flow field and piping system network, the optimized flushing system is determined.

An aquaculture system for feeding the caged fishes in the open water is suggested for ocean application. Survival and operation conditions are defined at the conceptual design. Wave and current drag forces are discussed to determine the proper dimension of the aquaculture system and the related mooring system. Second order wave drift force at the survival condition is the dominant force, which be reduced by minimizing the superstructure open to the surface. Automation in feeding, sorting, cleaning is introduced to use the ongoing technology for quality product. The suggested system has advantage compared to onshore culturing, but not to shallow water culturing system. There is room for real application in future by the countries, such as Korea and Japan, which are in short of fish supply and have willingness to venture towards the ocean aquaculture.
