Simmondsia chinensis (Link) Schneider, a multipurpose and monogeneric dioecious shrub from arid zones, has emerged as a cash crop all over the globe. Its seed propagation poses severe problems due to its male-biased population: the male:female ratio is 5:1. Investigations have been carried out to generate a sex-specific Inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) marker for the early detection of male and female plants. Of the 42 primers analysed with a bulk sample of pooled male DNA and a bulk sample of pooled female DNA, only one primer, UBC-807, produced a unique ~1,200 base-pair fragment in the male DNA. To validate this observation, this primer was re-tested with individual male and female samples from eight cultivars. A similar unique ~1,200 bp fragment was present in the male individuals of all eight cultivars and completely absent in the female individuals tested. This is the first report of the use of ISSR markers to ascertain sex in physiologically mature S. chinensis plants.
It is well known that stress induces analgesia. This study was designed to demonstrate the stress-induced analgesia by employing hemorrhage and restraint and to investigate its mechanism and sex difference. The degree of pain was assessed by measuring the magnitude of jaw opening reflex produced by a noxious electrical stimulation in the dental pulp and by measuring the latency to withdraw the tail from a heat ray. Restraint showed an antinociceptive response. A significant increase in pain threshold on bleeding was shown and the increase was larger in male group than in female group. The tail flick latency (TFL) on bleeding after AVP antagonist injection into the ventricle was decreased and the decrease was greater in male rats than in female rats. Castration resulted in a significant reduction of TFL. This effect was reversed by treatment with sex hormones. TFL was decreased during hemorrhage in castrated rats. This response was opposite to that in non-castrated rats. TFL was further decreased during hemorrhage after infusion of AVP antagonist, and there was a significant sex difference. These results suggest that both restraint and hemorrhage produce an antinociception and that, in hemorrhage-induced analgesia, AVP and sex hormones may play an important role and male rats show a greater analgesic response.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between social perception reflected in product advertisement and consumerism toward commodification of sex among college students. Subjects of this study were 1,100 college students in the Daegu metropolitan areas. Social perceptions were assessed by questions such as attitudes toward beauty contests, degree of commodification of sex in product advertisements and buying patterns. Consumerism was assessed by the Korean Featherstone version of consumer culture. Major findings of this study were as follows: a significant difference in the social perception of commodification of sex was found between male and female college students, showing that female students were more negative toward commodification of sex than male students. Higher scores were found for consumerism when subjects had higher perceptions for commodification of sex. Hence, the degree of commodification of sex was positively related to the degree of consumerism. In conclusion, consumerism enforced commodification of sex among college students, resulting negative effects on the sex culture in general.
These studies were conducted to determine the sex of preimplantation Hanwoo embryos produced in vitro using polymerase chain reaction(PCR). Y chromosome specific and bovine speicific DNA primers were synthesized and tested for embryo sexing. Bovine IVF embryos were produced in TCM 199 and CR1aa medium, and classified by developmental stages on Day 7 to 9. The effects of developmental rates to bovine IVF blastocysts on sex ratio were also investigated using PCR methods. The results obtained in this study were as follows; 1. Developmental rates to blastocyst from IVM/IVF embryos in TCM 199 and CR1aa medium for 9 days were 23.5 and 30.2%, respectively, and there was significant difference between the media(P<0.05). 2. Male to female ratio of early, mid, expanded and hatching balstocyst produced on Day 7 were 0.7:1, 1.4:1, 2.2:1, and 2.5:1, respectively, and male embryos was significantly higher proportion in expanding and hatching blastocysts(P<0.01). 3. On Day 8, male to female ratio of early, mid, expanded and hatching blastocysts were 0.6:1, 1:1, 2.5:1, and 2.7:1, respectively. Both expanded and hatching blastocysts obtained a significantly higher proportion of males(P<0.01). 4. The male : female ratio of early, mid, expanded and hatching blastocyst produced on Day 9 was 0.6:1, 0.8:1, 1:1, and 2.2:1, respectively. Hatching blastocysts had a significantly higher ratio of males(P<0.01). The developmental rate of IVM/IVF embryos to blastocyst for 9 day culture was higher in CR1aa than that in TCM 199 medium. For the sex ratio by developmental stages of IVF embryos, male ratio was higher in expanded blastocyst but female in early blastocysts.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of anxiety and demographic variables on clothing benefits sought of college students. The subjects were 600 college students in Seoul, Korea (male 218, female 382). Five factors of clothing benefit sought derived by factor analysis : F.1 status symbol : F.2 fashion : F.3 economic : F.4 management : F.5 comfort . The poverty and the opposite sex anxiety had positive relations with status symbol and fashion in both male and female. In case of the female, the poverty and the opposite sex anxiety had negative relations with comfort. The female gave more importance to status symbol and fashion than the male did, but the male gave more importance to comfort of clothing than the female did. Status symbol of clothing was influenced by clothing expenditure and the poverty anxiety in the male(= >.349), and influenced by clothing expenditure, the poverty anxiety, and ail academic fear in the female(=.238). Fashion was influenced by clothing expenditure and the poverty anxiety in total subject(= 248/.139). In general, the college student with higher poverty anxiety gave more importance to fashion and status symbol of clothing in both male and female.
The purpose of the study is to research unisex clothing attitude and clothing behavior and to compare the former with the later according to the different sex, the other walks of life and their professional occupations. The factors that one sex clothing has changed to the other sex clothing are illustrated in its attitude and then there are five distinguished parts such as aesthetics, utility, status symbol, conformity and modesty. A common questionaire is introduced for the way to survey them and the sources to measure them are gathered from the former studies for them but some of them are corrected, collegians in the city of Seoul, Sum total ; 578 students including 291 male students and 287 female students are investigated for this research. The date is analyzed by correlation, percentage, mean, analysis of variance and t-test. RESULTS : 1. The affirmative response to the questionaire is reflected stronger by the part of female's cloths changing to male's clothing than by the part of male's cloths changing to female's clothing. 2. Unisex clothing is more affirmative in the group of the same sex persons' living than in the group of the different sex people. 3. A unisex clothing goes for the characteristics of a person but it goes against the modesty. 4. The opinions from the negative group about Unisex clothing show us conspicuous viewpoints compared with them from the affirmative group about it. 5. The number of the group to describe the agreed opinion about Unisex clothing and to point out the trait of any person are so many. 6. While the number of the male group to be right view about Unisex clothing in becoming more and more female style shows us high interesting in status symbol for persons, the female group to agree with female Unisex clothing show us their high concerns at the utility.

A questionnaire survey was conducted on male and female college students living in Busan in May 2015 to study customer types and purchasing behaviors based on the benefit sought from undergarments. This study used a total of 460 data reports collected from 203 male and 257 female college students. The results of this study were as follows. First, the undergarment benefits sought were divided into material and function, harmony of outerwear and underwear and design. Consumers were categorized into function seekers, brand and design seekers, and undergarment indifferent customers. In addition, while male college students were likely to be function seekers, female college students were mostly brand and design seekers. Second, both male and female respondents showcased significant differences in the undergarment benefits sought depending on their customer type. Based on the customer type, male college students showed a greater difference in the undergarment benefits they sought when compared to their female counterparts, and marked differences were found in male respondents' undergarment material and function factors and female respondents' harmony factor of outerwear and underwear. Based on their sex, a significant difference in the harmony factor of outerwear and undergarments was observed. Third, after examining the purchasing behavior influenced by the customer type, this study found that both male and female students had undergarment purchasing behavior differences depending on their customer type, while function seekers and design seekers were likely to exhibit similar behaviors in purchasing undergarments regardless of their sex, except for their preferred image and purchasing method of undergarments. However, among the indifferent group of customers, there were significant differences depending on their sex.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the value orientation about family life between the older generations and college student. For this purpose, questionnaire were distributed to the older generations and college students in Seoul. Among them 920 data were obtained To obtain the family value scale, item analysis through pearson's correlation and factor analysis were used in pretest, frequency distribution, percentile, mean , t-test , and step-wise multiple were used for data analysis. The results are summarized as follows. 1) Male college students show traditional tendency and female college students show modern tendency especially sex-role attitude, ancestor worship attitude, patriarchy attitude. 2) Male and female of the older generations how traditional tendency. 3) The older generations show traditional tendency, college students show modern tendency, especially sex-role attitude and kinship attitude. 4) Male adults and male college students show traditional tendency. 5) Female adults show traditional tendency , female college students show modern tendency. In female, generation gap is more serious than males. 6) the most influencial socio-demographic variables on family value consciousness of the older generations are the religion and education, In case of college students, sex, major, religion, family income grown-up area effect on their value consciousness about family life, Based on the above findings , we should develop school education and many social programs to reduce the generation gap.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the clothing consumption pattern and satisfaction of the university students. 509 subjects were surveyed during the period of 2002, for statistical analysis, t-test, ANOVA(LSD), X²-test were used by SPSSWIN program. The results of this study were following; Number of clothing showed significant difference according to sex, income, and major Female students had more clothes than male students, but female student was not satisfied with thier number of clothing. University students spend the money below one hundred thousandwon on the purchase of clothing and they depend upon their parents for the cost. Their resources of fashion information are display of shop. Clothing consumption pattern showed significant difference according to sex and female students purchased on sale more frequently than male students. The needs of university students for formal wear was high. The reason for not wearing the clothes they have showed significant difference according sex, male students din't wear their clothes for ragging or unsuitableness of size but female students din't wear because thier clothes were old fashion or they lose interests in thier clothes. The tendency to have ethetic, easycare and high quality clothing of female student was stronger than that of male students. It is necessory business develop high quality formal wear at a low price, made in practical textiles and activative designed skirts for university students.
