Durability design and quality assurance of major concrete infrastructure

  • Upon completion of new concrete structures, the achieved construction quality always shows a high scatter and variability, and in severe environments, any weaknesses and deficiencies will soon be revealed whatever durability specifications and materials have been applied. To a certain extent, a probability approach to the durability design can take the high scatter and variability into account. However, numerical solutions alone are not sufficient to ensure the durability and service life of concrete structures in severe environments. In the present paper, the basis for a probability-based durability design is briefly outlined and discussed. As a result, some performance-based durability requirements are specified which are used for quality control and quality assurance during concrete construction. The final documentation of achieved construction quality and compliance with the specified durability are key to any rational approach to more controlled and increased durability. As part of the durability design, a service manual for future condition assessment and preventive maintenance of the structure is also produced. It is such a service manual which helps provide the ultimate basis for achieving a more controlled durability and service life of the given concrete structure in the given environment.

Performance Analysis of Coordinated Random Beamforming Technique in Multi-cell Environments

  • For multi-cell environments, coordinated random beamforming technique in multiuser MIMO(multiple-input multiple-output) broadcast channel is considered. In order to mitigate severe interference at receivers, the multi-cell environments might require complex transmitter and receiver design because the scheduler decision based on full channel state information (CSI) in one cell must be intertwined with decision made by other cells' CSI. With limited CSI, however, this paper considers a scheme of randomizing transmitters' beamforming but being coordinated with other cell transmitters. The transmitters in each cell share random beamforming patterns and schedule data transmission within coherent scheduling period. The corandomized beams allow the users to be selected with the highest SINRs even in multi-cell environments. We analyze the performance of the proposed scheme. And numerical results show that the scheme achieves better performance than the conventional random beamforming when applying to multi-cell environments.

  • The railway electromagnetic environment is much more severe than that found in commercial and domestic environments. However, in many instances the railway runs very close to such environments. Tn this paper we measure the strength of electromagnetic fields for Korean High Speed Train Prototype and compare that with the past result and evaluate the result according to domestic and international guideline.

잡음 환경하에서의 PSO-NCM을 이용한 거절기능 성능 향상 (Enhancement of Rejection Performance using the PSO-NCM in Noisy Environment)

  • Automatic speech recognition has severe performance degradation under noisy environments. To cope with the noise problem, many methods have been proposed. Most of them focused on noise-robust features or model adaptation. However, researchers have overlooked utterance verification (UV) under noisy environments. In this paper we discuss UV problems based on the normalized confidence measure. First, we show that UV performance is also degraded in noisy environments with the experiments of an isolated word recognition. Then we observe how the degradation of UV performances is suffered. Based on the UV experiments we propose a modeling method of the statistics of phone confidences using sigmoid functions. For obtaining the parameters of the sigmoidal models, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) is adopted. The proposed method improves 20% rejection performance. Our experimental results show that the PSO-NCM can apply noise speech recognition successfully.

  • 무선통신환경에서는 RF신호가 매우 심하게 변하는데, 이러한 신호의 변화는 특히 차량통신환경에서 더욱 심해진다. 자동이득제어는 무선통신시스템에서 신뢰성 있는 통신환경을 제공하고 급격하게 변하는 수신신호를 보상하데 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 논문에서는 수신신호세기값과 아날로그-디지털변환값 두 가지 신호를 이용하는 간단하고 향상된 자동이득 제어기법에 대해 논의한다. 시물레이션과 실제 환경에의 측정을 통해 제안된 기법의 성능을 검증한다.

  • The cause of corrosion failure found in structures or various components operating in severe corrosive environments has been attributed to stress corrosion cracking(SCC)which is resulting from the combined effects of corrosive environments and static tensile stress. Slow strain rate test (SSRT) provides a rapid reliable method to determine SCC susceptibility of metals and alloys for a broad range of application. The chief advantage of SSRT procedures is that it is much more aggressive in producing SCC than conventional constant strain or constant load tests, so that the testing time is considerably reduced. Therefore, in this paper, the combined effects of material properties and strain rate on the tensile ductility and fracture morphology of parents and weldment for SM45C, SCM440 and SM20C steels were examined and discussed in synthetic sea water. The susceptibility of SCC was the most severe under the strain rate of $1.0{\times}10^{-6} sec^{-1}$, and R.O.A. can be used for parent and maximum load for weldment to evaluate the parameter for SCC susceptibility.

Cronobacter sakazakii의 산 저항성 (Acid Resistance of Cronobacter sakazakii)

  • 본 연구는 표준균주 C. sakazakii(CAFM2)와 4개의 야생균주(EB 1, EB 5, EB 7, EB 41)를 사용하여 pH를 조정한 산성 환경에서의 저항성을 살펴보았다. C. sakazakii는 pH 4.5 TSB에서 5시간, 10시간 동안 적응한 경우, pH 4.5 TSB에서 적응하지 않은 경우와 비교하여 EB 7을 제외한 모든 균주가 pH 2.5 TSB에서의 D값이 유의적으로 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 따라서 약산성 환경에서 적응한 균주는 강산성 환경에서의 저항성이 증가하였다. C. sakazakii는 pH 4.5 TSB에서 배양한 경우, pH 7.2 TSB에서 배양한 경우와 비교하여 모든 균주가 pH 2.5 TSB에서의 D값이 유의적으로 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 따라서 약산성 환경에서 배양한 균주는 강산성 환경에서의 저항성이 증가하였다. 본 연구를 통해 C. sakazakii는 약산성 환경에 적응한 경우 강산성 환경에서의 저항성이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 acid adaptation response는 C. sakazakii와 관련된 식품 가공 산업에서의 hurdle technology를 적용하는데 있어서 안전성 확보와 관련된 시사점을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

이동보조기 사용에 따른 직업만족 및 삶의 질에 관한 연구 -중증과 경증 외부신체 장애자근로자의 비교를 중심으로- (A Study on Job Satisfaction and Quality of Life in Relation to the Use of Movement Assisters -Focused on a Comparison between Workers with Severe and Slight External Physical Disabilities-)

  • 본 연구는 외부신체 장애근로자를 대상으로 이동보조기 사용에 따른 직업만족과 삶의 질의 차이를 장애유형에 따라 비교분석하고, 이동보조기 사용자의 직업만족이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것이다. 분석결과, 경증의 경우 일의 내용에서만 이동보조기 사용자의 직업만족이 높은 것과는 달리 중증의 경우 일의 내용, 근로환경, 근로시간, 발전가능성, 의사소통 및 대인관계에 대한 만족이 높게 나타났으며, 삶의 질에서도 중증의 경우 가족, 거주지, 일에 대한 삶의 질에서 긍정적으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 이동보조기 사용자의 직업만족이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향의 분석결과, 직업만족의 모든 하위영역에서 의미 있는 영향을 나타내어 직업만족이 높을수록 삶의 질을 높게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다.
