  • High utility sequential pattern (HUSP) mining has been considered as an important research topic in data mining. Although some algorithms have been proposed for this topic, they incur the problem of producing a large search space for HUSPs. The tighter utility upper bound of a sequence can prune more unpromising patterns early in the search space. In this paper, we propose a sequence expected utility (SEU) as a new utility upper bound of each sequence, which is the maximum expected utility of a sequence and all its descendant sequences. A sequence utility list for each pattern is used as a new data structure to maintain essential information for mining HUSPs. We devise an algorithm, high sequence utility list-span (HSUL-Span), to identify HUSPs by employing SEU. Experimental results on both synthetic and real datasets from different domains show that HSUL-Span generates considerably less candidate patterns and outperforms other algorithms in terms of execution time.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the origin of Meretrix. Method : Bibliographies about Meretrix were examined focusing on the origin. Based on this analysis, the list and characteristics of the origin-mineral were presented. Results : Based on the Meretrix, the Korean and foreign literature were investigated to make a list, and the process of changing the origin was organized in chronological order. Based on these results, the shape of the currently cultivated or distributed drugs, the status of the distributed drugs and the status of the distributed products were summarized. In addition, the results of summarizing the adverse effects and sensitivities of the efficacy and prestige are as follows: 1. The origin of the Meretrix corresponded to the fall of the mollusks Merethrix metrix L. and Cyclina sinensis Gmelin, which are mollusks belonging to the reference family Veneridae. Their Herbal name is CONCHA CYCLINAE SEU MERETRICIS and they have therapeutic effects on cough, asthma, thirsty and chest heavies. 2. Munhap (文蛤) is a different name of GALLA CHINENSIS. It has therapeutic effects on various skin diseases. Conclusions : The Meretrix means two herbs. The first one is CONCHA CYCLINAE SEU MERETRICIS, the other is GALLA CHINENSIS. They should be used separately according to their clinical use.

  • Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are getting more attention in safety-related and safety-critical application development of nuclear power plant instrumentation and control systems. The high logic density and advancements in architectural features make static random access memory (SRAM)-based FPGAs suitable for complex design implementations. Devices deployed in the nuclear environment face radiation particle strike that causes transient and permanent failures. The major reasons for failures are total ionization dose effects, displacement damage dose effects, and single event effects. Different from the case of space applications, soft errors are the major concern in terrestrial applications. In this article, a review of radiation effects on FPGAs is presented, especially soft errors in SRAM-based FPGAs. Single event upset (SEU) shows a high probability of error in the dependable application development in FPGAs. This survey covers the main sources of radiation and its effects on FPGAs, with emphasis on SEUs as well as on the measurement of radiation upset sensitivity and irradiation experimental results at various facilities. This article also presents a comparison between the major SEU mitigation techniques in the configuration memory and user logics of SRAM-based FPGAs.

  • An arbiter physical unclonable function (APUF) has exponential challenge-response pairs and is easy to implement on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). However, modeling attacks based on machine learning have become a serious threat to APUFs. Although the modeling-attack resistance of an MA-APUF has been improved considerably by architecture modifications, the response generation method of an MA-APUF results in low uniqueness. In this study, we demonstrate three design problems regarding the low uniqueness that APUF-based strong PUFs may exhibit, and we present several foundational principles to improve the uniqueness of APUF-based strong PUFs. In particular, an improved MA-APUF design is implemented in an FPGA and evaluated using a well-established experimental setup. Two types of evaluation metrics are used for evaluation and comparison. Furthermore, evolution strategies, logistic regression, and K-junta functions are used to evaluate the security of our design. The experiment results reveal that the uniqueness of our improved MA-APUF is 81.29% (compared with that of the MA-APUF, 13.12%), and the prediction rate is approximately 56% (compared with that of the MA-APUF (60%-80%).

  • Ethanol consumption causes psychomotor alterations. Hovenia Semen seu Fructus (HS), widely distributed in Korea, China, and Japan, has been reported to have beneficial effects on acute alcohol-induced liver injury. The present study sought to assess the effects of HS extract on ethanol-induced psychomotor alterations in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were orally (p.o.) given ethanol (4 g/kg) (ethanol group) to induce psychomotor alterations. A separate group (HS-treated groups), were treated with different dosages of HS (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg, p.o.), 30 minutes before ethanol treatment. The control group received only the vehicle (saline). Ethanol-induced psychomotor alterations were evaluated in the open-field, rota-rod, hanging wire, and cold swimming test. In addition, blood ethanol and acetaldehyde concentrations were also measured. Behavioral evaluations and blood analysis were carried out 0.5, 1, 2, 4, and 8 hours after ethanol administration. Pre-treatment of HS ameliorated ethanol-induced alterations in the open-field, rota-rod, and cold swimming test, significantly evident in 2 and 4 hours after ethanol treatment. These improvements coincided with decrease in blood ethanol and acetaldehyde concentration. Based on these results, the present study suggests that HS may have ameliorating effects against ethanol-induced psychomotor alterations.
