To examine the difference of health-related quality of life (QoL) of obese patients between before and after treatment of Korean traditional medicine. This study was assessed in 18 obese-women (age 29.72${\pm}$7.38) treated by acupuncture and herbal medicine using SF-36 quality of life questionnaire between January and July 2006, a 36 item instrument yielding 8 dimensions (Social functioning, Role limitation-Physical, Role limitation-Emotion, Mental health, Vitality, Bodily pain, and General health) and a total score. Their weight was measured by Inbody 3.0 (Biospace co. Korea). QoL and body composition was assessed twice at baseline (B) and 4 weeks after treatment. Auricular acupuncture and electrical needle stimulation to abdomen, thigh, and arm fat was used twice a week and complex herb formula was prescribed according to their constitution and symptoms for 4 weeks. Herb medication was taken 2 times a day. Respective variables were analyzed with Wilcoxon signed ranks test and the level set for statistical significance was p <0.05. The mean of the body weight (P=0.000;B64,68${\pm}$6.86, 4 WKs 60.47${\pm}$5.69), fat percentage (P=0.000;B33.14${\pm}$4.86, 4 WKs 30.16${\pm}$5.34), body mass index (P=0.000;B25.18${\pm}$2.44, 4 WKs 23.46${\pm}$2.09) and fat weight (P=0.000;B21.66${\pm}$5.06, 4 WKs 18.41${\pm}$4.57) of some obese patients decreased significantly between before and after treatment for 4 weeks. Physical functioning (P=0.48;B27.06${\pm}$3.17, 4 WKs 28.00${\pm}$1.71), Mental health (P=0.01 ;B18.83${\pm}$5.25, 4 WKs 22.00${\pm}$3.73), Vitality (P=0.028;B13.89${\pm}$3.03, 4 WKs 15.44${\pm}$2.53), Bodily pain (P=.0014;B8.84${\pm}$1.75, 4 WKs 10.15${\pm}$1.78), and the total scores (P=0.001;B104.99${\pm}$12.60, 4 WKs 114.58${\pm}$11.11) of SF-36 were increased significantly after treatments. These data show some differences in QoL and BMI between before and after treatment on obesity and suggest that the treatment with acupuncture and herbal medicine have a positive impact on several domains of QoL of some obese patients. Further randomized clinical trials (RCTs) including follow-up are needed to examine whether acupuncture and herb medicine have a positive effect on QoL of treatment group compared with control group.

Spacer dampers maintain the constant gaps between each conductor in a bundle conductor-transmission line, and are installed at proper intervals to keep a line from all sorts of damages derived from the vibration energy caused by mechanical or electrical external factors. It is most important to embody a technology which considers difficulties of maintenance and repair, and has optimum elements in order to prevent accidents such as destruction by fire or the snapping of a wire by the effect of vibration phenomenon coming from transmission lint In the resent thesis, therefore, the analysis of vibratory characteristics of spacer damper is set up by analytical methods such as the analysis of conductor motion's governing equation, the equation of spacer damper's motion, spacer damper-fastened wire's motion in a span and the numerical analysis of finite difference method. Furthermore, the installation distance between spacer dampers was scrutinized by simulations of various vibration phenomena which change at any time as actual conditions do, and hereafter difference method. Furthermore, the installation distance between spacer dampers was scrutinized by simulations of various vibration phenomena which change at any time as actual conditions do, and hereafter we will be able to analyze all kinds of vibration phenomena coming from a boltless spacer damper with 6 bundle conductor for 765kV transmission line based on new analytical methods.
For quantitative evaluation of geotechnical engineering properties such as rippability and diggability, clear interpretation on the subsUJiace velocity structures should be preceded by figuring out top soil, weathered and soft rock layers, shape of basement, fracture zones, geologic boundary and etC. from the seismic refraction data. It is very important to set up suitable field parameters, which are the configuration of profile and its length, spacings of geophones and sources and topographic conditions, for increasing field data Quality. Geophone spacing of 3 to 5m is reconunended in the land slope area of house land development site. In refraction tomography technique, the number of source points should be more than a Cluarter of available channel number of instrument and the subsurface structure interpretation can be decreased the artifact of inversion by topographic effect. Compared with core logging data, it is shown that the velocity range of the soil is less than 700m/s, weathered rock 700~1,200m/s, soft rock 1,200~1,800m/s on the velocity tomogram section. And the upper limit of P-wave velocity for rippability is estimated 1,200 to 1,800m/s in land slope area of gneiss.
Leakage accidents in businesses dealing with hazardous chemicals can have a great impact on the workers inside the workplace, as well as residents outside the workplace. In fact, there were cases where hazardous chemicals leaked from many businesses. As a result, the Chemicals Control Act(CCA) was enacted in 2015, the Ministry of Environment introduced an Off-site Risk Assessment(ORA). The purpose of the ORA is to secure safety from the installation of the design of the workplace facilities so that chemical accidents of hazardous chemical handling facilities do not cause human or physical damage outside the workplace. In general, the ORA qualitatively determines where a protected facility is within the scope of the accident scenario. However, elderly who belong to the sensitive group is more sensitive than the general group under the same chemical accident effect, and the extent of the damage is serious. According to data from the Korea National Statistic Office, the number of elderly people is expected to increase steadily. Therefore, a quantitative risk analysis considering the elderly is necessary as a result of a chemical accident. In this study, accident scenarios for 14 locations were set up to perform emergency evacuation due to toxic gas leakage of Cl2(Chlorine) and HF(Hydrogen Fluoride), and the effects of exposure were analyzed based on the evacuation velocity difference of age 20s and 60s. The ALOHA(Areal Locations of Hazardous Atmospheres) program was used to calculate the concentration for assessing the effects. The time of exposure to toxic gas was calculated based on the time it took for the evacuation to run from the start point to the desired point and a methodology was devised that could be applied to the risk calculation. As a result of the study, the relative risk of the elderly, the sensitive group, needs to be determined.

Recently, the operating conditions of the various mechanical structures have become more severe and the running time has become longer as the development of plant equipment increases with the introduction of high technology. Thus, the reliability of the system and its accessories is becoming a problem. Normally, synthetic natural gas (SNG) plants use 1.25Cr-0.5Mo or 2.25Cr-1Mo heat resistant steel according to the operating conditions. In this study, a lab-scale reactor was set up using 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steel, in order to carry out corrosion tests for producing synthetic natural gas. The corrosive characteristics were investigated under 1st-methanator operating conditions and fundamental data about the durability and reliability were obtained by using the experimental test. The analysis of results obtained on the durability of the reactor under emission and injection compositions showed that the hydrogen embrittlement caused by hydrogen and the oxidation corrosion caused by H2O had the most effect on the durability of 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steel in the SNG reactor. However, the hydrogen embrittlement and oxidation corrosion occurred simultaneously under emission conditions, so that the corrosion of the material increased suddenly after a long operating time. Besides, the corrosion of the 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steel under the injection composition was faster than that under the emission composition.

Due to the enlargement and high-rise of reinforced concrete structure, the application of high functional material is required. However, high-strength bar is recently introduced to the country and the material is insufficient to measure the variation of quantity of rebar quantitatively when using high-strength bar. For these reasons, this study is to provide useful data in cost decision making when applying high-strength bar at a stage of architectural project planning. For residence-commerce complex buildings, we set up six types of conditions such as in case of using only rebar, in case of using only high-strength bar, in case of using rebar mixed with high-strength bar and so on. With the standard of study model 1 that applies only SD400 regardless of rebar diameter, the analyzed result of rebar variation and the cost change of construction in other study model is as follows. When the rebar amount and cost in study model I was 100%, each ratio was 88.3% and 90.5% in study model II, 80.2% and 83.4% in study model III, 91.9% and 93.5% in study model IV, 88.9% and 87.7% in study model V and 82.4% and 85.5% in study model VI. Therefore, in case of rebar amount and construction cost, study model III was evaluated as the best that was applied only SD600.
Understanding the seawater infiltration into tidal flat sediments is very important, because it is significantly correlated with the supply of dissolved oxygen, nutrients and organic matter to benthic organisms for survival. However oil blocks interstitial spaces of sediments, reduces seawater infiltration and results in the decrease in oxygen, nutrients and other food supply to benthic communities. The penetration depth of the stranded oil into the sediments is one of the most significant information to know the effect of spilled oil on biological communities and to set up a cleaning method. So we initiated this study to quantify the penetration behavior of spilled oil and to evaluate the influence of the penetrated oil on seawater infiltration in tidal flat environment and its ecological implications. The penetration depth of the crude oil into the tidal flat sediments was two times deeper than that of the fuel oil C, and the depth was significantly affected by stranded oil volume. However, the penetration depth of stranded oil was abruptly dropped at first falling tide but not significantly fluctuated after that. Moreover, hydrocarbon concentration showed the highest within the upper 2 cm. Seawater infiltration was decreased in proportion to the stranded oil volume. The seawater infiltration was more affected by the penetrated fuel oil C about 1.7 times than the crude oil, because the interstitial spaces of the top of sediments were more cleared by the fuel oil C. Therefore, quick cleaning actions for penetrated oil will be necessary for recovery of seawater infiltration because the seawater contains oxygen and nutrients necessary for the survival of benthic organisms in tidal flat.
This study was performed to evaluate the applicability of pump and treat technology as well as to identify the changes of groundwater level by continuous pumping at the petroleum contaminated site. A total of 9 monitoring wells were installed at the site and the contaminant concentrations, TPH, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene, of groundwater were measured. With the results of the groundwater monitoring, a total of 9 wells were set up for pumping contaminated groundwater in 3 locations. The waste water treatment facility with a capacity of $10m^3/hr$ was installed in the site and operated for about 1 year. The concentrations of the contaminated groundwater from the 3 pumping wells were exceeded groundwater regulation for benzene and TPH. However, the effluent concentration of benzene and TPH was under the regulation showing the maximum level of 0.011 mg/L and 1.2 mg/L during the operation periods. Groundwater levels were decreased by continuous pumping and those were not recovered during the operation period. Groundwater levels of PW-1,2, PW-3,4,5,6 and PW-7,8,9 were decreased about 5 m, 0.7 m, 2 m, respectively. The hydraulic conductivity (K) of the region of PW-1,2, PW-3,4,5,6 and PW-7,8,9 was estimated to be $6.143{\times}10^{-5}cm/sec$, $2.675{\times}10^{-5}cm/sec$, $1.198{\times}10^{-4}cm/sec$. Groundwater level was seemed to be affected not by hydraulic conductivity but by morphological effect. These results show that the pump and treat technology has high applicability for the restoration of petroleum contaminated groundwater but needs continuous monitoring to prevent rapid groundwater drawdown.
$\beta$-Glucan has been efficiently produced with higher yield by the optimization of liquid cultivation conditions. The optimal composition of medium for batch culture was 5% (w/v) of glucose as a carbon source, 0.5% (w/v) of yeast and 0.5% (w/v) of malt extract as a nitrogen source, 0.1% (w/v) of $KH_2PO_4$ and 0.05% (w/v) $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, which had been the base medium for determination of other conditions. The set-up conditions are pH 5.0, $28^{\circ}C$, 1 vvm for aeration and 300 rpm for agitation. In order to minimize the inhibition effect of glucose on the initial growth of mycelia and to maximize the production of extracellular $\beta$-glucan, we have reduced the initial glucose feed to 4% and added 2nd feed at the point of 70 hr from the initial feed. The 2nd feed was composed of glucose 3%, yeast extract 0.1 % and malt extract 0.1 %. It improved the $\beta$-glucan yield upto 5.2 g/L in comparison with 2.8 g/L resulted from batch cultivation. Moreover, the serial treatment of a cell wall lytic enzyme and bromelain to the mycelia was effective for extraction of the cell wall bound $\beta$-glucan. The yield of $\beta$-glucan extraction by the enzyme treatment was 3.5 g/L, which was almost 4 times higher than that by hot-water extraction.
Purpose: This review article was written to determine the effects of parameters characterizing a hard contact lens (RGP included), such as BCs, diameters, edge angles, on the time interval for tight fitted lens to return to the equilibrium when it was decentered from blinking. Methods: A mathematical formulation was established to relate or calculate the restoring forces and thickness of lacrimal layer beneath the cornea with the various lens parameters when the tight fitted lens was decentered from blinking. Based on this formulation the differential equations and their numerical solution program were set up to describe the time dependence of the lens on the position and to estimate the time for the lens's return to the equilibrium after blink. Results: It is found that the time interval for the tight fitted lens to return to the equilibrium decreases as either the BC decreases or the diameter increases because both the reduction in BC and increase in diameter result in the increase in the lacrimal layer thickness between the lens and cornea increase which yielded the lowering of the viscous friction in the lens motion. As the edge angle of tight fitted lens increases the time for recentering decreases due to the increase in restoring force without change in lacrimal thickness beneath the lens. In the case of flat fitted hard lens (RGP included), the lacrimal layer thickness under the lens increases as either BC or diameter increases which results in reduction in viscous friction so that the time for the lens's return to the equilibrium were to decrease. The edge angle of flat fitted lens does not affect the lens motion. Conclusions: The effect of BCs on the lens motion (time to approach the equilibrium) was concluded to be significant with both tight and flat fitted lens where its results are contrary with each other. The edge angle of lens only affects the motion in tight fitted lenses.
