  • For fast recovery from physical discomfort and getting back to normal life, many rehabilitation treatments have been performed on patients. Computer games have been one of such treatments that are able to apply to patients effectively. However, because most of such games are locational-based, it is hard to figure out exact medical condition of patients that provide more information to medical doctors. This paper presents a rehabilitation game for patients, which is locational-based as well as rotational-based, who are having external wound or aging diseases by using electromyography signal and gyroscopic sensors. Through this game, we are able to understand how to lead the patients to involve in physical therapy more and how to obtain exact conditions of patients from the games. From several experiments, we found out that our games are able to make patients to increase their physical activity and possibility.

  • There are a lot of games which have good benefits in the game genre such as serious game. In this paper we implement an serious game for increasing intensive power by calculating the index of the intensive power based on EEG signal. First we explain the definition of the EEG and the classification of the brainwaves and we depict the method for increasing the intensive power. Then we apply the index of the intensive power to the game production to train the intensive power. At last we make an experiment on the effect of an game which increases the intensive power and the analysis shows the increase of the intensive power.

  • Recently, systematic research on the brain has been conducted and BCI(Brain -Computer Interface) technology applying electroencephalogram has been actively researched. Especially, serious game technology using BCI device has been the subject of interest. This paper develops a "twosome collaboration dance game," which is a serious game that takes advantage of NeuroSky's SDK(System Development Kit) and helps developing the spirit of team work and sociality based on attention and meditation, unlike existing single player games. We expect that this game will help to visualize brain functions of people and to cure ADHD children and the elderly people with MCI(Mild Cognitive Disorder). It is also expected to play a role of social catalyst to the game culture of the adolescent.

  • This paper introduces a serious game called freCman developed for C programming language beginners. Since key words, syntax, and programming structure of C programming language are unfamiliar for them, they feel uneasy and have many difficulties to study. We developed three games such as shooting star C, finding hidden errors, unscrambling C codes through which C beginners can study C language easily. Also we developed CTS(Code to Speech) which speeches C source codes like English statements so that C beginners can be familiar with C key words and statements. To prove effectiveness of the freCman, some experiments have been conducted with C language beginners. Experiment results show that the freCman helps beginners studying C programming language much.

  • Recently, the technology and services make progress in IT sector to facilitate the rehabilitation, as well as the exercise that aims to promote the health. To provide the opportunity for new services, various challenges have to be fulfilled, including the blurring boundaries among industries, spread of new technologies, and various demands. Seizing on this opportunity, the fusion and convergence have been accelerated. The trends towards the fusion and convergence are inherent in content industry and spreading to other sectors, which makes the cultural desire of customers fulfilled in a more diverse manner. In particular, the research has been conducted, using the game, in the new technology cultural contents which have shown noticeable fusion and convergence between IT and exercise rehabilitation areas. Such games can be classified into the motion-based game, serious game, and virtual reality game. Those game contents are forming the market fast based on the contents for education, sports, exercise rehabilitation, healthcare, etc., and have very great potential for growth. This study is intended to analyze the fusion and convergence system of exercise rehabilitation through those games and present a direction for future development.

  • Recently attention deficit of children has caused various social problems. Those children who has symptoms like ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) has to be provided with methods which can enhance their attention level in a child-friendly way such as 3D games. This paper shows a research on how to measure the level of attention for attention deficit children using their favorite 3D games. Firstly, we speculated on the methods about attention measurement used in the medical area. And then we searched measurement variables which can effectively evaluate the level of attention during a game play time. Secondly, we have conducted experiment whether there exists difference about the value of the measurement variables between the two groups, normal children group and attention deficit children group. Those variables are omission error, commission error, average response time, and standard deviation of response time. Though our experiment has only been limited to visual attention level, four measurement variables revealed mutual differences.

  • With the development of tangible interface in recent years, the interest in interactive exercise games to improve health-related physical fitness has been increased. We believe that this kind of serious game should provide not only motion sensing of the action required to play sports but also a specific effectiveness of exercise. This paper will show how a serious exercise game affects theirs heart rate and preference. For the experiments, we used an exercise game named GalaxyBike for aerobics exercise which is developed by the Interaction Media Research Center of Hoseo University. In the experiments, players' heart rate was measured during the warming-up, exercise and cooling-down periods by a wireless heart-rate measuring instrument. After they played the exercise game, a survey was conducted to see how they like this serious exercise game. The findings of the study suggest that the serious exercise game providing both video game and exercise would make a contribution to the improvement of health-related physical fitness since it serves to increase the heart rate and motivation.

  • This paper proposed a method which enabled the designing and implementation of a serious game based on AVR microcontroller on a virtual serial port before making the actual circuit by performing simulation, and which made it possible to develop a serious game. The implemented serious game implemented a mole game which can be enjoyed by one person, a love game with which a male gamer and a female gamer can play, and a marathon game in which a gamer can run the marathon while listening to cheerful music and looking at a region he/she wants to visit. The development of a microcontroller device that provides those functions showed that not only does the device make it possible to develop games more easily and conveniently through the implementation of a game using virtual serial communications with a board designed by an ISIS simulator, but also it reduces trials and errors during game development.

  • This paper was intended to present a way to incorporate Korean content and products of Korean brands into functional coloring games that color them for the continued development of digital hallyu at this time of the world's derivation, as shown by the Korean Wave, a word that means more and more people like Korean culture worldwide. For the development of the Korean digital convergence functional game industry that can solve users' leisure time, we will compare and analyze the advanced image cuts provided by coloring games that have been commercialized and serviced, and seek ways to utilize the image of Hallyu contents that are not provided in existing coloring games. In the image cuts used in functional coloring games, we will find ways to utilize differentiated Hallyu content image cuts and study and present the direction of development of aesthetic elements of coloring games. Research on Korean Wave content, which has made use of our own aesthetic elements, should continue, and functional games using digital mobile device devices and game content elements utilizing Korean images in the Korean game industry will help spread Korean pop culture and digital Hallyu.
