Investigation of the lateral force fluctuations in an axisymmetric overexpanded compressed truncated perfect (CTP) nozzle for the shutdown transient is presented. These nozzles experience side-loads during start-up and shut-down operations, because of the flow separation at nozzle walls. Two types of flow separations such as free shock separation (FSS) and restricted shock separation (RSS) shock structure occur. A two-dimensional unsteady numerical simulation has been carried out over an axisymmetric CTP nozzle to simulate the lateral force fluctuations in nozzle during shutdown process. Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. Governing equations are solved by coupled implicit scheme. Two equation k-$\omega$ SST turbulence model is selected. Unsteady pressure is measured at four locations along the nozzle wall. Present pressure variation compared well with the experimental data. During shutdown transient, separation pattern varies from FSS to RSS and finally returns to FSS. Several pressure peaks are observed during the RSS separation pattern. These pressure peaks generate lateral force or side loads in rocket nozzle.
The mechanical and aerodynamic effect of building shape plays a dominate role in the pedestrian level wind environment. These effects have been presented in numerous studies and are available in many wind codes. However, most studies have focused on wind flow around conventional buildings and are limited to few wind directions. The present study investigated wind circulation in the re-entrant corners of cross-shaped high-rise buildings from various wind directions. The investigation focused on the pedestrian level wind environment in the re-entrant corners with different aspect ratios of building arrangements. Ninety cases of case study arrangements were evaluated using wind tunnel experimentation. The results show that for adequate wind circulation in the re-entrant corners, building orientations and separations play a critical role. Furthermore, in normal wind incident directions and at a high aspect ratio, poor wind flow was observed in the re-entrant corners. Moreover, it was noted that an optimized building orientation and aspect ratio significantly improved the wind flow in re-entrant corners and through passages. In addition, it was observed that oblique wind incident direction increased wind circulation in the re-entrant corners and through passages.
Aerodynamic optimization of an automotive air-conditioning blower is a hard task because of the highly complex flow phenomena related to three-dimensional flow separations and the unsteady nature caused by the interaction between primary and secondary air flows throughout the fan. In this paper, an aerodynamic study on a forward-curved centrifugal fan has been carried out Firstly we obtained the fan performance curves versus flow rates showing its unstable nature in the surging operation range. Secondly aerodynamic characterizations were carried out by investigating the velocity and pressure fields in the casing flow passage using a 5-hole pilot probe, at different operating conditions. Surface flow pattern near the cut-off area exhibits similar flow behavior above the best efficiency operating point, although the pressure level increases substantially with the Increase of flow rate. Vorticity in the casing passage flow occurs in all (low rates, downstream from the r-Z plane $\theta$=120 deg., where the position of its core changes with the circumferential location. Although complex, the general flow behavior were common, giving insight in its main aerodynamic features.

In this paper, we analyzed and measured the electrical crosstalk characteristics of a 1.25 Gbps triplexer module for Ethernet passive optical networks to realize fiber-tothe-home services. Electrical crosstalk characteristic of the 1.25 Gbps optical triplexer module on a resistive silicon substrate should be more serious than on a dielectric substrate. Consequently, using the finite element method, we analyze the electrical crosstalk phenomena and propose a silicon substrate structure with a dummy ground line that is the simplest low-crosstalk layout configuration in the 1.25 Gbps optical triplexer module. The triplexer module consists of a laser diode as a transmitter, a digital photodetector as a digital data receiver, and an analog photodetector as a cable television signal receiver. According to IEEE 802.3ah and ITU-T G.983.3, the digital receiver and analog receiver sensitivities have to meet -24 dBm at $BER=10^{-12}$ and -7.7 dBm at 44 dB SNR. The electrical crosstalk levels have to maintain less than -86 dB from DC to 3 GHz. From analysis and measurement results, the proposed silicon substrate structure that contains the dummy line with $100\;{\mu}m$ space from the signal lines and 4 mm separations among the devices satisfies the electrical crosstalk level compared to a simple structure. This proposed structure can be easily implemented with design convenience and greatly reduce the silicon substrate size by about 50 %.

A simple and sensitive electrochemical sensor for simultaneous and quantitative detection of ranitidine (RT) and metronidazole (MT) was developed, based on a poly(thionine)-modified anodized glassy carbon electrode (PTH/GCE). The modified electrode showed the excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the reduction of both RT and MT in 0.1M phosphate buffer solution (PBS, pH 7.0). The peak-to-peak separations (${\Delta}E_p$) for the simultaneous detection of RT and MT between the two reduction waves in CV and DPV were increased significantly from ca. 100 mV at anodized GCE, to ca. 550 mV at the PTH/GCE. The reduction peak currents of RT and MT were linear over the range from 35 to $500{\mu}M$ in the presence of 200 and $150{\mu}M$ of RT and MT, respectively. The sensor showed the sensitivity of 0.58 and $0.78{\mu}A/cm^2/{\mu}M$ with the detection limits (S/N = 3) of 1.5 and $0.96{\mu}M$, respectively for RT and MT.
The Population III (Pop III) stars are thought to be massive. If massive Pop III stars form binary system and they experience mass transfer via the Roche lobe overflow, this may significantly change the properties of the system. For example, mass transfer in such system may shorten the period of the system, forming short period binary black hole (BBH) system, which is the most promising candidate for recently detected gravitational wave radiation sources. Also, there is an expectation that due to the stripped envelope of donor star by mass transfer, this system can play a significant role in the cosmic reionization by emitting more UV photons. However, this outcome highly depends on the initial properties of the system. We perform grid calculation on Pop III binary models with various initial primary masses (20 ~ 100 solar mass), initial separations, and initial mass ratios (q = 0.5 ~ 0.9). We find that 1) in most cases binary models show no increase in the number of ionizing photons and 2) formation of short period BBH system via mass transfer is highly unlikely.

A three-dimensional computation is conducted to simulate a three-dimensional rotating stall in a low speed axial compressor. It is generally known that a tip leakage flow has an important role on a stall inception. However, almost of researchers have taken no interest in a role of the hub-comer-stall on the rotating stall even though it is a common feature of the flow in an axial compressor operating near stall and it has a large effect on the flows and loss characteristics. Using a time-accurate unsteady simulation, it is found that the hub-comer-stall may be a trigger to collapse the axisymmetric flows under high loads. An asymmetric disturbance is initially originated in the hub-comer-stall because separations are naturally unstable flow phenomena. Then this disturbance is transferred to the tip leakage flows from the hub-comer-stall and grows to be stationary stall cells, which adheres to blade passage and rotate at the same speed as the rotor. When stationary stall cells reach a critical size, these cells then move along the blade row and become a short-length-scale rotating stall. The rotational speed of stall cells quickly comes down to 79 percent of rotor so they rotate in the opposite direction to the rotor blades in the rotating frame.
A study was conducted to develop optimal conditions for a large-scale, sequential separation method for value-added components from egg yolk. Starting with liquid egg yolk, immunoglobulin Y (IgY), phospholipids, and neutral lipids were extracted sequentially using water, ethanol, and n-hexane. The remainder was yolk proteins. Adjusting the pH of diluted egg yolk to pH 5.0-5.2 decreased phospholipids content in the supernatant after centrifugation, which was very important for preventing clogging problem of ultrafiltration filters during the subsequent concentration step for IgY separation. Extraction of precipitants after centrifugation with four volumes of 100% ethanol once removed most of the phospholipids and the purity of phospholipids was more than 85% (wt.) after drying. The subsequent extraction of precipitant from ethanol extraction with four volumes of hexane 3 times removed neutral lipids almost completely and resulted in a high protein product with minimal lipids. The sequential separation method is considered to be advantageous for large-scale separations of many valuable components from egg yolk.
Propagation of the guided waves in a steam generator (SG) tube was investigated. Dispersion curves and the incident angles corresponding to the specific modes were calculated for the SG tube. The modes of guided wave were identified by time-frequency diagrams obtained by short time Fourier transform. Group velocities were also determined from the time-frequency diagrams obtained at the different separations of transducers. In experiment. distinct mode conversion was not observed when the guided ultrasound passed curved region of the S/G tube. The optimum mode of guided wave for the inspection of SG tube was suggested and verified by experiments.
Pigment red 53:1 is a dye used in various products as a component of the inks, suspected of being carcinogenic. Thus, the environmental and occupational issues related to it are important. The enzyme-based approach with reusability has advantages to consume less energy and generate less harsh side- products compared to the conventional strategies including separations, microbe, and electrochemical treatment. The degradation of Pigment red 53:1 by the lignin peroxidase immobilized on the surface of magnetic particles has been studied. The immobilization of the peroxidase was conducted on magnetic particle surface with the treatment of polyethyleneimine, glutaraldehyde, and the peroxidase, in sequence. The immobilization was confirmed using X-ray photon spectroscopy. The absorbance peak of the pigment was monitored at 495 nm of UV/Vis spectrum with respect to time to calculate the catalytic activities of the pigment for the immobilized lignin peroxidase. For the comparison, the absorbance of the lignin peroxidase free in solution was also monitored. The catalytic rate constant values for the free lignin peroxidases and the immobilized those were 0.51 and $0.34min^{-1}$, respectively. The reusable activity for the immobilized lignin peroxidase was kept to 92% after 10 cycles. The stabilities for heat and storage were also investigated for both cases.
