  • To separate carbon dioxide from a flue gas, membranes for gas separation was fabricated from polystyrene-b-polybutadiene (SB) diblock copolymer blends with poly(phenylene oxide), PPO. SB diblock copolymer formed miscible blends with PPO in the experimental range (lower than or equal to 70 wt% PPO). When the blend contained PPO whose composition is in the range of 40-50 wt%, the discontinuous phase of polybutadiene block in SB diblock copolymer, was changed to discrete phase, while polystyrene blocks containing PPO was changed to the continuous phase. A sudden decrease of the gas permeability and a sudden increase of the gas selectivity was observed at these blend compositions. A gas separation membranes having excellent mechanical properties and exhibiting advantages in gas permeability and selectivity could be fabricated from blends containing more than 50 wt% PPO.

  • There are various educational programming environments in which students can train artificial intelligence (AI) using block-based programming languages, such as Entry, Machine Learning for Kids, and Teachable Machine. However, these programming environments are designed so that students can train AI through a separate menu, and then use the trained model in the code editor. These approaches have the advantage that students can check the training process more intuitively, but there is also the disadvantage that both the training menu and the code editor must be used. In this paper, we present a novel artificial intelligence block that can perform both AI training and programming in the code editor. While this AI block is presented as a Scratch block, the training process is performed through a Python server. We describe the blocks in detail through the process of training a model to classify a blue pen and a red pen, and a model to classify a dental mask and a KF94 mask. Also, we experimentally show that our approach is not significantly different from Teachable Machine in terms of performance.

  • Background: Epidural steroid injection is an established treatment modality for intervertebral disc prolapse to radiculopathy. In cases where two levels of radiculopathy are present, two separate injections are warranted. Herein, we present our experience of management of such cases with a single epidural injection of local anaesthetic, tramadol and methylprednisolone, and table tilt for management of both radiculopathies. Methods: 50 patients of either sex aged between 35-65 years presenting with features of cervical and lumbar radiculopathic pain were included and were subjected to single lumbar epidural injection of local anaesthetic, tramadol and methylprednisolone, in the lateral position. The table was then tilted in the trendelberg position with a tilt of 25 degrees, and patients were maintained for 10 minuted before being turned supine. All patients were administered 3 such injections with an interval of 2 weeks between subsequent injections, and pain relief was assessed with a visual analogue scale. Immediate complications after the block were assessed. Results: Immediate and post procedural complications observed were nausea and vomiting (20%), painful injection site (4%), hypotension (10%) and high block (4%). Pain relief was assessed after the three injections by three grades: 37 (74%) had complete resolution of symptoms; 18% had partial relief and 8% did not benefit from the procedure. Conclusions: This technique may be used as an alternative technique for pain relief in patients with unilateral cervical and lumbar radiculopathies.

  • PURPOSES: This study aims to analyze the impact of the implementation of a school zone traffic safety improvement project on the number of accidents involving children in these zones. METHODS : To analyze the correlation between school zone traffic safety features of roads in the zone and the number of accidents involving children, we developed an occurrence probability model of traffic accidents involving children by using a binary logistic regression model with SPSS 23.0 software. Two separate models were developed for two zones: interior block and arterial road. RESULTS :The model depicted that in the case of the interior block, shorter sidewalk width, speed bump, and an elevated crosswalk were key factors affecting the occurrence of accidents involving children. In the case of arterial roads exceeding a width of 12 m, the speed limit, roadside barriers, and red paving of road surfaces were found to be the key factors. CONCLUSIONS:The results of this study can serve as the elementary research data to help improve the effectiveness of school zone traffic safety improvement projects and school zone road repair projects in future.

  • Because of increasing complexity in maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding of four of higher antenna scenario, Partial Interference Cancellation (PIC) group decoding could be the perfect solution to reduce the decoding complexity occurs in ML decoding. In this paper, we separate the symbols the users in the layered basis and find the equivalent channel matrix. Based on the equivalent channel matrix we provide the grouping scheme. In our paper, we construct a block wise transmission technique which will achieve the desired code rate and reduce the complexity and provide less transmission time. Finally we show the different grouping performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a new adaptive stereo object tracking system that can be used when the back ground image is complex and the cameras are not fixed . In this method, we used the Block Matching Algorithm to separate the tracking object form the background image and then the optical JTC system is used to obtain the convergence-controlling and pa/tilt-controlling values fro the left and right cameras. the experimental results are found to track the object robustly & adaptively for the object tracking in various background images, and the possibility of real-time implementation of the proposed system by using the optical JTC is also suggested.

  • In this paper, we present an efficient architecture of a versatile Reed-Solomon (RS) decoder which can be programmed to decode RS codes continuously with my message length k as well as any block length n. This unique feature eliminates the need of inserting zeros for decoding shortened RS codes. Also, the values of the parameters n and k, hence the error-correcting capability t can be altered at every codeword block. The decoder permits 3-step pipelined processing based on the modified Euclid's algorithm (MEA). Since each step can be driven by a separate clock, the decoder can operate just as 2-step pipeline processing by employing the faster clock in step 2 and/or step 3. Also, the decoder can be used even in the case that the input clock is different from the output clock. Each step is designed to have a structure suitable for decoding RS codes with varying block length. A new architecture for the MEA is designed for variable values of the t. The operating length of the shift registers in the MEA block is shortened by one, and it can be varied according to the different values of the t. To maintain the throughput rate with less circuitry, the MEA block uses both the recursive technique and the over-clocking technique. The decoder can decodes codeword received not only in a burst mode, but also in a continuous mode. It can be used in a wide range of applications because of its versatility. The adaptive RS decoder over GF($2^8$) having the error-correcting capability of upto 10 has been designed in VHDL, and successfully synthesized in an FPGA chip.
